energy, just as a weir is a type of hydraulic structure which
can be used to pool water for irrigation, establish control of
the bed Or, as a new innovative technique, to divert flow
away from eroding banks or into diversion channels for flood
control.

Tarbela Dam:
LOCATION;
Tarbela Dam on the Indus River in Pakistan is the largest earth filled
dam in the world and second largest by structural volume. It is name
after town Tarbela located in Haripur District Khyber Pakhtunkhwa,
about 50 kilometers (31 mi) northwest of Islamabad, near Topi.
The dam was completed in 1976 and was designed to
store water from the Indus River for irrigation, flood control, and the
generation of hydroelectric power.
HEIGHT OF THE DAM;
Dam is 485 feet (148 m) high above the river bed. The dam
forms the Tarbela Reservoir, with a surface area of approximately 250
square-kilometer (97 sq mi)

Next biggest dam in Pakistan is Mangla Dam that is constructed in
the Jhelum River in the Mirpur District of Azad Kashmir, Pakistan
History
It is also the 9th largest dam in the world. The construction was
began in 1961 and completed in 1967
It was constructed at the cost of $1.473 billion and funded by the
World Bank and Asian Development Bank.

7. Mirani Dam:
Location....thIt is a medium-sized multi-purpose
dam that is located on e Dasht River in Balochistan.

dam in the world having floodstock of 588,690 cubic
hectometer. Its construction was began on July 8,

9. 1. Warsak Dam:
Location
Warsak Dam is a mass concrete gravity dam and located
on the Kabul River northwest of the Peshawar city in
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
History.
It was completed in two phases. First phase was
completed in 1960 and the second phase was completed
in 1980-81.

Sabakzai Dam is an embankment dam at Zohb River
in Balochistan

the world with a floodstock of 23,638 cubic
hectometer.

LOCATION;
The dam is located on Changhoz River 6 km (4 mi) west of Karak
city in karak district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province

DATE OF COMLETION;
The construction of that dam was competed in 2007.

15. KHANPUR DAM;
Khanpur Dam is a dam located on the Haro RIVER near the village
of Khanpur, KhyberPakhtunkhwa, Pakistan, about 25 miles (40 km)
from Islamabad, Pakistan It caters to domestic water supplies
in Rawalpindi and Islamabad, and irrigation water to many of the
agricultural and industrial areas surrounding the cities.
The dam was completed in 1983 after a 15-year
construction period believed to have cost RS 1,352 million

16. JAWA DAM;
LOCATION;
Jawa Dam is located in Rawalpindi District on Jawa River in Punjab, Pakistan

The dam is 25 m (82 ft.) high

17. DARGAI PAL DAM
LOCATION;
Dargai Pal Dam is an earth filled dam in South Waziristan Agency
of FATA, Pakistan.
The construction of dam was started in 2008 and completed in 2010
at a cost of PKR 204 million. The dam was constructed under
supervision of FATA Development Authority. For construction
supervision the services of NESPAK were hired.
CAPICITY;
The actual storage capacity of water 2178 acre feet.
HEIHGT;
The dam has a height of 84 feet,

18. GOMAL ZAM DAM
LOCATION;
Gomal Zam Dam is a multi-purpose gravity dam in South Waziristan
Agency of Federally Administered Tribal Areas, Pakistan. The dam
impounds the Gomal River.
The purpose of the dam is irrigation, flood control
and hydroelectric power generation. Construction of the dam began
in August 2001 and was completed in April 2011. The powerhouse
was completed in March 2013 and electricity production started in
August 2013.The dam was officially inaugurated on 12 September
2013.
