DARR ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Page 5 of 5 PRE-GRADUATION EXPERIENCE 1997 Technical Project TECHNICAL UNIVERSITY OF NOVA SCOTIA (TUNS), Canada ETHYLENE FROM NGL - Completed a project investigating the potential of establishing a small-scale ethylene / propylene facility in the nearby area. The plant would process NGL (Natural Gas Liquids) from the Venture gas field off Sable Island, Nova Scotia. A comprehensive process and plant design report was prepared, including a thorough market study conceptual design, preliminary engineering, system integration & optimization, environmental impact and HAZOP study. Process operation of the plant was simulated using Aspen Plus. I was mainly responsible for designing the reactor. The project proposals and feasibility study were well received. 1996 University Work Term (4 months) - NOVA SCOTIA DEPT. OF ENVIRONMENT, Canada Researched and compiled a detailed Water Quality Monitoring (WQM) information package to provide guidelines for WQM volunteers in the province of Nova Scotia. 1995 University Work Term (8 months) - PUBLIC WORKS & GOVERNMENT SERVICES, Canada Assisted in environmental assessments, ground water sampling, well installation, slug testing and surveying at various sites in the province of Nova Scotia; Familiarized with various instruments used in testing soil samples for Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons (TPH) & Lower Explosive Limit (% LEL); Developed ground water contour maps from monitor well logs and water table elevations; Successfully completed an assigned (groundwater monitoring) project at a particular site which included on-site sampling, bi-weekly progress reports and a concluding recommendatory report which was well received. 1994 (4 months) - NOVA SCOTIA DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENT, Canada Assisted senior Emergency Response personnel in coordinating and compiling Assessment & Remedial reports for contaminated sites; Reviewed and assessed Contingency & Emergency Response plans for various industrial organizations; Developed an initial draft “Sampling Protocol & Close-out Sampling Procedures” report for implementation consideration by NSDOE. 1993 (4 months) NS DEPT OF TRANSPORTATION & COMMUNICATIONS, Canada Successfully completed a project designing snow plow blades; Redesigned and tested the “nose piece” of particular snow plow model for a possible 50 % cost saving; Compiled specification sheets for machines & machine parts to be ordered / fabricated.
