Career Description
Since i qualified in 1983 as a quantity surveyor and only spend 2 years in a professional office, i
realised that my interest is in Project Management/Commercial Management, rather than
straight Q/S. I have been involved and successful in various projects, from conceptual design
and budgeting stages to final commissioning and final accounts being detailed herein under. My
strengths are the ability to motivate people, being a team player and have a “hand-on”
management style, to analyse and solve problems and being pro-active. I realise the value of
procedures provided that they are practical. During my career path i have come across difficult
situations, clients and contractors, but with my believe in being fair and reasonable and to early
establish good working relations, this has always been resolved amicably.
I have been exposed to various levels of management, from being a junior on site to managing
a division of companies that requires more than just a technical function but also to manage all
the supporting structures, commercial, marketing, budgeting and forecasts, etc.
During my years in construction, I have been exposed to the marketing world. In Botswana,
Concor was dormant and my job description was to turn it into one of the major players in the
industry again, within 3 years the order book changed from R 0-00 to R 100m Pula annual turn
over. I did the same with Murray and Roberts in KZN
During my career I have also being exposed to mediation and arbitration, my strength is JBCC
contracts, but have had minor exposure to NEC and FIDIC Contracts.
