Improving the Program of Studies: The
program of studies is the total set of organized
learning experiences at a given level of
schooling.

 Improving school studies involves interaction
between teachers, students and instructional
materials with an integrated knowledge base.

 Reconceptualizing Programs of Study: thinking of
curriculum in other ways than the traditional
content areas or the traditional academic
disciplines as a way of organizing knowledge.
One of the most pervasive models was the core
curriculum movement of the 1940s.

 Interdisciplinary courses: Interdisciplinary
courses are courses of study that either integrate
content from two or more disciplines or ignore the
disciplines totally when organizing learning
experiences.

should include a different approach to the

of that reasoning.

in an effective package, the roles of a teacher,
textbook, and other instructional materials are

curriculum framework to an outline of
possibilities.
