DUALACTIVE BRIDGE WITH REDUCED STAGE
MULTIPORT DC/AC CONVERTER FOR PV BATTERY
SYSTEMS
ABSTRACT
• Standalone power systems are significant for electrifying the remote
areas where extending the grid connectivity is not feasible, either
economically or logistically
• Solar Photovoltaic (PV) systems with battery backup are among the
most popular candidates to serve as an energy source in standalone
systems.
• This article presents a novel multiport converter (MPC) for PV-battery
systems powering standalone loads.
• The proposed converter is a reduced stage power converter based on
current fed dual active bridge (CF-DAB) topology. CF-DAB offers
galvanic isolation and a high voltage ratio without sacrificing
INTRODUCTION
• Standalone generation of power is an effective way to provide
electricity to remote places.
• Solar Photovoltaic based systems are suited for standalone systems
in remote areas.
• A General solar PV system with backup consists of solar panels as
the main energy source and batteries as a source of backup power.
• In a standalone system, the interface circuit aims to regulate the load
voltage and frequency to their nominal values.
• The solar panels are generally operated at their maximum power
point (MPP) and the deviation of generated power from load
demand is taken care of by the battery.
• A new multiport converter is proposed for the standalone power
generation.
• It is reduced stage power converter based on current fed dual active
bridge topology.
• The performance of the proposed converter based on the tracking
maximum power point, regulating the load voltage with lesser
switching losses.

• Photovoltaics is the conversion of light into electricity
using semiconducting materials that exhibit the photovoltaic effect.
• PV installations may be ground-mounted, rooftop-mounted, wall-
mounted or floating. The mount may be fixed or use a solar tracker to
follow the sun across the sky.
BATTERY
• Battery is an storage element of excessive DC power generated at
photovoltaic panel and provide the power when there is need of power.
DC-DC CONVERTER
• DC-DC converters convert one DC voltage level to another, which may
be higher or lower, by storing the input energy temporarily and then
releasing that energy to the output at a different voltage.
• DC-to-DC converters which are designed to maximize the energy
harvest for photovoltaic system and for wind turbines are called power
optimizers.
DC-AC CONVERTER
• The electrical circuits that transform Direct current (DC) input
into Alternating current (AC) output are known as DC-to-AC
Converters or Inverters.
• They are used in power electronic applications where the power input
pure 12V, 24V, 48V DC voltage that requires power conversion for
an AC output with a certain frequency.
• These are used in numerous applications, including PV systems,
battery storage systems, traction drives, variable speed drives, etc.

fluctuations as the inverter sporadically demands heavy current.

ABSTRACT • Standalone power systems are significant for electrifying the remote areas where extending the grid connectivity is not feasible, either economically or logistically • Solar Photovoltaic (PV) systems with battery backup are among the most popular candidates to serve as an energy source in standalone systems. • This article presents a novel multiport converter (MPC) for PV-battery systems powering standalone loads. • The proposed converter is a reduced stage power converter based on current fed dual active bridge (CF-DAB) topology. CF-DAB offers galvanic isolation and a high voltage ratio without sacrificing

INTRODUCTION • Standalone generation of power is an effective way to provide electricity to remote places. • Solar Photovoltaic based systems are suited for standalone systems in remote areas. • A General solar PV system with backup consists of solar panels as the main energy source and batteries as a source of backup power. • In a standalone system, the interface circuit aims to regulate the load voltage and frequency to their nominal values.
  • 4. • The solar panels are generally operated at their maximum power point (MPP) and the deviation of generated power from load demand is taken care of by the battery. • A new multiport converter is proposed for the standalone power generation. • It is reduced stage power converter based on current fed dual active bridge topology. • The performance of the proposed converter based on the tracking maximum power point, regulating the load voltage with lesser switching losses.
