Observances of the United Nations International Day of Families 2013 organized by the Universal Peace Federation in various nations. The theme for 2013 was Advancing Social Integration and Intergenerational Solidarity. UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said: "Around the world, family members are doing their part. They deserve support from policy-makers and decision-makers, from public institutions and private businesses. There is a growing recognition around the world that we need to strengthen policies promoting intergenerational solidarity and support intergenerational programmes and initiatives. Evidence shows that adequate pensions and caregiver support help not only older persons but whole families. Intergenerational programmes promoting volunteering among the young and old benefit all generations. Opportunities for people of all ages to bond revitalize whole communities. Intergenerational initiatives also address global development priorities. They counteract inequality and exclusion, encourage active citizenship and even improve public infrastructure through community-based projects."
Affirmed by civilizations and religions for millennia, the family forms the basis of natural procreation, lineage, the honoring of parents and grandparents, and our development as spiritual and rational beings.
UPF regards the family as the school of love and the foundation for a stable society. Marriage between husband and wife lays the foundation for the family. The father and the mother complement one another biologically and psychologically as they raise their children. The family has both private and public functions, promoting both social cohesion and intergenerational solidarity. The love we receive at home provides the framework for fulfilling our potential as human beings.
Social cohesion is learned in the family where members attend to the well-being of one another. Likewise, when families contribute to the well-being of their community, the community prospers, offering benefit and protection for families in return.
The importance of grandparents in promoting intergenerational solidarity cannot be underestimated. They are the repositories of information about the ancestors and the conveyers of tradition and culture. The bond between grandparents and grandchildren is second in emotional power only to that between parents and children. Together, the grandparents, parents, and children form a link between the past, the present and the future.
Every culture throughout the world affirms the central role of the family in promoting social integration, intergenerational solidarity, and a healthy society. Religious traditions such as Confucianism, Buddhism, Judaism, Christianity, Islam, and Hinduism emphasize the sacred and social significance of the family.
The purpose and ideal of marriage and the family center on procreation, raising children within a committed and faithful relationship of the natural parents.

June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202

Embracing GenAI - A Strategic ImperativePeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

• Flag of Pakistan
The national flag of Pakistan was adopted in its
present form during a meeting of the constituent
Assembly on August 11, 1947, just four days before the
country’s independence, when it became the official
flag of the Dominion of Pakistan. It was afterwards
retained by the current-day Islamic Republic of
Pakistan. The flag is a green field with a white crescent
moo and five rayed star at its centre, and a vertical
white stripe at the hoist side. Though the green colour
is mandated only as 'dark green', its official and most
consistent representation is Pakistan green, which
is shaded distinctively darker. The flag was designed
by Amiruddin Kidwai, and is based on the All-India
Muslim League flag.

• Infra-Structure
The Maldives transportation infrastructure is
very limited. The capital city island, Malé, has
9.6 kilometers (6 miles) of coral highways. Due to
their small size and the tiny amount of cars
throughout the rest of the islands, the total
quantity of roads is not known. There are no
railways in the Maldives. Since the tourism boom
of the 1970s, the availability and frequency of
inter-island transportation has considerably
improved. While the cheapest and most common
mode of transport used by Maldivians
are dhonis (wooden all-purpose water
taxis/fishing boats), tourists and the wealthy have
the option of using private seaplanes, helicopters,
and speedboats. When travelling on an island,
the majority of people use bicycles or
motorbikes, although there are a limited number
of cars and taxis in use on the more populated
and larger islands.
• Infra-Structure
At the time of partition in Independence, Pakistan got
almost a waste land and most of the developed areas
came under the territory of India. So, Pakistan had to
work for primary foundation of infrastructure. The
comparatively poor infrastructural situation of Pakistan
by international standards has severe effect on the
lives of people. The electricity shortages, lack of proper
water and sanitation provisions. Above all, increase of
population to an alarming level is making our problems
worse. The Government of Pakistan and its people face
an uphill battle against poor infrastructure. According
to the World Economic Forum Survey (2006-07) of 125
countries, Pakistan ranked 67th in basic infrastructure
category. Historically, a continual imbalance between
demand and supply of infrastructure facilities is seen.
In The Global Competitiveness Report (GCR) 2012-
2013, released by the World Economic Forum, Pakistan
is graded among bottom 20 of the 144 economies
around the world. Pakistan lacks a long-term view of
competitiveness in accordance with this report.

• Dressing
The traditional costumes of Maldives are
quite simple. Men wear sarongs (a length of
clothing wrapped around the waist) with a
long sleeved shirt, which is invariably white.
Cotton is the preferred fabric due to the
island’s tropical weather.
The traditional dress for women is called
Libaas. The costume,which resembles a
dress, is typically worn during special
occasions, festivals and during dance
performances.
• Dressing
The shalwar waned is the national dress of
Pakistan and isworn by men and women in
all four provinces Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan
and Khyber Pakhtoonkhawa in the country
and in Asap Kashmir. Shalwar refers loose
trousers and qameez refers to shirts.

• Marriage
The legal age for marriage is eighteen, although
half of the women marry by age fifteen.
Marriages are not arranged. In accordance with
Islamic law, a man can have four wives at any
time if he can support them financially, but
polygamy is uncommon. Sex before marriage is a
punishable offense. Marriages can take place only
between Muslims. Maldives has one of the
highest divorce rates in the world; according to a
1977 census, nearly half of the women over the
age of thirty had been married four times or
more.
• Marriage
Marriage in Pakistan pertain to wedding
traditions established and adhered by Pakistani
men and women. Despite their local and regional
variations, marriages in Pakistan generally
follow Islamic marital jurisprudence. Culturally,
marriages are not only seen as a union between a
husband and a wife, but also an alliance between
their respective families.These traditions extend
to other countries around in the world
where Overseas Pakistani communities exist.

• Painting
The Maldives are home to some of the most
skilled craftsmen in the world. Though the
Maldivian arts were born more from
necessity than from pleasure, tourism has
turned Maldivian art into a hot
commodity.Trades and skills were passed
down from one generation to the next over
several centuries, and this eventually led to
the perfection of Maldives art as it is known
today. Tourists flock to the Maldives to view
and purchase different types of arts and
crafts.
