In this workshop we model and teach the Person Centered Approach
(PCA) to effective classroom management and student involvement, a
proven method of communication and relationship building developed by
world-renowned psychologist Dr. Carl R. Rogers. We introduce you to
skills that increase the quality of your interactions – with students, parents,
colleagues and administrators – which then lead to improvements in your
classroom’s academic effectiveness & your job satisfaction!
A teacher who learns to use the Person Centered Approach fosters an
environment of openness, empathy and respect in the classroom, which
makes it safe for students to work through their challenges, both
academically, as well as socially and emotionally. PCA is also an effective
method in leading classroom and Restorative Circles. As students feel
safer in the classroom and become more engaged, there is a reduction in
disruptions, absenteeism and suspensions, and an increase in participation,
creative and critical thinking, and academic outcomes.
