Our ObservationsThe traditional established IT Channel has a vested interest in maintaining the status quo.MarginsLarge customer baseThe credit crunch is history, we are now in a recessionIn recession or uncertain times cost reduction is very predictable. Therefore budgets will continue to be squeezedInnovate and cut is the best policyThe status quo of 70% of budget to keep the lights onhas to change !!

Editor's Notes

  • #3 3 areas of discussion. Cloud definitions, characteristics, predicted trends, what this is doing to the IT marketplace and an example of how to explain cloud to a non technical audience such as LOB Managers.Google, its mission, some of its history, statistics and why their competition will struggle to catch upA little about us and why you might want to partner with us
  • #6 This is the stack that you will all be familiar with together with some examples of the players involved
  • #7 Big research projects with the need for great elasticity are already taking advantage of the bottom layer. This is bring about massive savings in budget and time. This will in turn help curtail the amount of time it takes to get a drug researched and approved or decrease the time to market for complex software products.Gartner have made this prediction for 2012 but have also stated that the wave begins in 2010 and we are beginning to see that.
  • #8 I find this to be a more helpful way of looking at Cloud technologies when I’m trying to explain it to non IT literate LOB Managers. These are the folks that you and I have to convince that this is the way forward. From the little I know about British Red Cross I would like to think that you would be immediately interested in public and a community cloud for your customers and donors. The creation of a BRX cloud could be a source of funds, a great way to collaborate with other charities and agencies and most importantly communicate intimately with your customers and donors
  • #9 Here are some recent wins for Google. Whats interesting and consistent is the ROI and increase in user satisfaction. Tell the telegraph story
  • #11 The only two places to cut in a recession
  • #12 And if we need any confirmation as to where and what IT groups are looking for. Top search subjects are cloud and cost cutting!
  • #13 As part of our engagement process we use this slide to determine how large the emotional challenge is going to be and what we must do regarding piloting and training to gain acceptance. Quite often this part of the process takes longer than the actual migration!
  • #14 There is an argument that 7 out of the 8 points above relate to security. In terms of Google you need to take in to consideration that Google.com sits on the very same infrastructure and that billions of dollars are transacted through it. You also need to consider how large an enterprise you must have before you go out and hire 150 of the worlds best security engineers to safeguard your perimeters. What we are talking about here is 10% of the worlds computing resource! Its these economies of scale and the ready availability of broadband and the maturation of virtualisation that makes this all possible. Its the recession though that is the final cosh on the head for us!
  • #15 These are end user/consumer type statements regarding the acceptance of change paradigm. Nevertheless these perceptions are real and we don’t underestimate them. Its our experience that if we team with the IT department to convince the rest of the business and yes I do regard you as a business then it does 2 things. Yes it speeds up the time it takes for us to swap contracts but more importantly it decreases the time it takes for the users to take full advantage of the increased productivity.
  • #16 Here’s the pain point. There are tools that help people move out of their comfort zone and accept positive change and indeed we sell and support them. For example we have a tool called Offisync which allows end users to stick with their familiar Microsoft productivity tools yet the underlying collaboration and mail engine is Google. AlthoughOffisync is ridiculously cheap your Microsoft renewal licences are not.
  • #20 We have distribution partners for our migration tools. We have technology partners for IDM and SSO. We will only focus on cloud using the criteria I mentioned at the top of the presentation.
  • #22 We don’t just see this as a novel way of going to market. We see this as the future of IT
