3. The Sabtuan Adult Education Services (SAES) is a division of the Cree School Board.
SAES provides a wide range of high-quality, community-based, educational and training
opportunities for adults living in the Eeyou Istchee territory.
Our mission is to promote and stimulate the social and professional integration of the
adult population in our territory by offering programs and services that will increase
their skills, expertise and qualifications.
By doing so, each of our students is ready to step in the labor market with the right
tools and confidence.

1.1 Determine the student population, profiles, and needs for 2016-2021
• Enhance data collection and complete assessment of student’s/application’s file
• Implemented a standardize computerized student attendance
• Student recruitment – engaged in collaborative work and program assessment with PSSS
1.2 Actively motivate and engage students in their learning
• Developed Essential Skills Training for students in Cycle 1. The development of the program was done in partnership with
both internal and external partners (CHB, Director of Communications).
• Essential Skills has evolved and adapted to meet the needs of our clientele in the Vocational sector (primary focus was on
the Construction and Mining sectors).
• Proactive measures and acquisition of tools and equipment to ensure we conform to industry standards

Develop pathways, programs and partnerships that reflect the needs of
all students
• Student Success Counselor was available to students with learning
disabilities, special needs and/or any risk factors for the first three
months of the school year.
• The Guidance Counselor also met with 63 individuals and held 11
different workshops with different groups in Eeyou Istchee to discuss
planning for the future.

Enhance visibility and awareness of Sabtuan Adult Education Services
and Post-Secondary Student Services, and access to their programs and
partnerships
• Increased communications using posters, social media, and radio
• Providing every student with a student card
• Worked more closely with Post-Secondary Student Services to
redirect students to proper programs

Establish and nurture mutually beneficial relationships with employers,
industry and community groups
• CHRD expanded their support in 2016-2017 by providing education
allowances to adults enrolled in general education
• CHRD also collaborated to bring a presentation on success and coping
strategies to staff and participants of Mistissini’s Career Path Program

• Student Success in the classroom
• Smartboards and tablets/iPads are available in most cases. This technology
gave us the opportunity to work with the Information and Technologies
department for solutions that will facilitate a distance education program.

24. General Education
• Socio-Vocational Integration Program - enables adults to deal
competently with real-life situations that will make it easier for them
to enter the labour market and remain employed, or continue their
studies. Offered in Chisasibi and Mistissini.
• Preparation for Vocational Studies Program - prepare our students at
the academic level and enable them to enter the job market well
prepared, the preparation for vocational studies program will be
offered in the communities of Waskaganish, Waswanipi, Mistissini
and Chisasibi.
25. General Education
• Healthy Life Choices and Cultural Awareness Project - To meet the
greater needs of the general education students, SAES will develop
and implement a local course aimed at equipping students with the
basic skills necessary for life.
26. Vocational Training
• Develop a strategic plan to meet requests for training
• Offer quality training and develop our own expertise in various fields
• Orientation prior to starting programs so students become familiar
with their chosen field
