Sulphur Bay in Lake Rotorua, New Zealand is home to several species of gulls, including the endangered black-billed gull which is only found in New Zealand. The bay has hot springs that bubble up warm water from magma underground, creating a warm habitat preferred by the gulls. While the gulls like living in Sulphur Bay, the sulfur in the water can cause problems as it eats away at the webbing between their toes. Every spring the gulls nest around the edges of the bay, using plant materials to build nests on the rocks and taking turns keeping their eggs warm.
