Virgen de La Sierra winery is the result of a
whole village, (Villarroya de la Sierra) thrill
which has turned out into a strong project
born more than fifty years ago.
It has conserved the wisdom of a millenarian
culture in “working” vines by hand, whilst they
adapt and refine these techniques to the
necessities of the market.
Their premises are to bet on investigation
and innovations in viticulture without
forgetting tradition.

D.O. CALATAYUD
Calatayud DO is located in the southwest in Zaragoza province, Aragón,
next to the small country town which gives it its name.
It’s surrounded by the natural region of the river Ebro valley (700-800 m
above sea level), notable for the semi-arid continental climate.
Soil consists of red loam, marl, limey sandstone and even slate. .
Vineyards and grape
Virgen de La Sierra vineyards are located in the
foothills of the mountain range Sierra de la
Virgen.
All of them are planted as bush vines, combining
the centenary vines with the young ones.
Garnacha and Macabeo are the most used
grapes.

Macabeo
Cruz de Piedra Macabeo has a pale straw yellow colour and strong fruity
flavours of banana and citrus. On the palate the wine is well balanced, smooth
and fresh.
It pairs well with rice dishes, fish and shellfish.
Serve at 8-10ºC

Fresh and fruity, it has exuberant concentrated berry flavours (strawberry and
raspberry), supported by a magnificent structure, although the tannins are
smooth.
Serve at 8-10ºC as aperitif or with tapas, pasta or poultry dishes.

Garnacha
Cruz de Piedra Garnacha has a very intense and extrovert bouquet.
Its taste shows exuberant concentrated berry flavours and a touch of spiciness,
supported by a magnificent structure, although the tannins are smooth.
It pairs very well with full flavoured meat dishes, particularly lamb and game.
Serve at 14-16ºC.

Fresh and intense aromas of mature banana, citrus and with notes of tropical fruit.

Cherry red colour with violet tones.
The bouquet is very explosive, rich and full bodied. On the palate,
concentrated blackberries and other red fruits together with the spiciness
typical of Garnacha and from 8-month aging in American oak. Concentrated,
smooth and round.
Enjoy with meat dishes, game with red sauces and stews.
Serve at 15-16ºC.
