It all began with a few conversations nearly two years
ago. My commercial real estate (CRE) colleagues and
friends working in the technology space began a
discussion about how the industry is changing. It led to
my passionate belief that in five years the way we do
business will look very different and in ten year it will be
completely different. The main driver behind this change
will be emerging technologies. Over the past 36 months
we’ve seen an unprecedented new wave of technological
innovation in the commercial real estate space. This is
best exemplified by the over $150M raised by companies
(full table on the next page). The way users and owners
of commercial space find, finance, build and manage their
real estate is changing at an accelerating rate. Over the
past 36 months we’ve seen trends like coworking,
crowdfunding and collaboration through mobile and
web-based platforms take on newly significant roles
within the CRE industry. What’s more exciting is that
these trends are still in their infancy. CRE // Tech Intersect
is about continuing that initial conversation.
We started CRE // Tech Intersect last year with the
mission of creating a larger conversation about how
technology is changing the commercial real estate
industry. It’s been a fantastic experience watching this
conversation grow into a biannual, bicoastal technology
symposium. Now, over a year since we started this
conversation, I’m pleased to share our new resource
report, the CRE // Tech State of the Market Report.
Editor, Bill Hansen and I developed this report to help
readers learn more about the emerging and established
technologies available today. Each participating group has
contributed information and visuals for their companies
so that you can get a quick glimpse into the important
work they’re doing.
CRE // Tech Intersect represents a personal passion of mine
which would not be possible without the support of an

My commercial real estate (CRE) colleagues and friends working in the technology space began a discussion about how the industry is changing. It led to my passionate belief that in five years the way we do business will look very different and in ten year it will be completely different. The main driver behind this change will be emerging technologies. Over the past 36 months we’ve seen an unprecedented new wave of technological innovation in the commercial real estate space. This is best exemplified by the over $150M raised by companies (full table on the next page). The way users and owners of commercial space find, finance, build and manage their real estate is changing at an accelerating rate. Over the past 36 months we’ve seen trends like coworking, crowdfunding and collaboration through mobile and web-based platforms take on newly significant roles within the CRE industry. What’s more exciting is that these trends are still in their infancy. CRE // Tech Intersect is about continuing that initial conversation. We started CRE // Tech Intersect last year with the mission of creating a larger conversation about how technology is changing the commercial real estate industry. It’s been a fantastic experience watching this conversation grow into a biannual, bicoastal technology symposium. Now, over a year since we started this conversation, I’m pleased to share our new resource report, the CRE // Tech State of the Market Report. Editor, Bill Hansen and I developed this report to help readers learn more about the emerging and established technologies available today. Each participating group has contributed information and visuals for their companies so that you can get a quick glimpse into the important work they’re doing.
