2. Front cover - colours
Use of white text throughout the front
cover, with a drop shadow on the
masthead and cover lines which helps
them stand out. White generally has
positive connotations of light and
cleanliness. With this magazine it could
suggest it is the best magazine for the
genre

3. Contents page - colours
The contents page also uses a basic
selection of colours. It uses red for the
main lines which makes them standout
and black for the description of cover
lines. The only connotations we can really
draw from this is that country is a rather
simple genre and most country songs say
the same basic things.

4. DPS - colours
The selection of
colours here is, again,
mostly white with
regards to text. The
picture has a
selection of rather
“warm” colours. It
sets a friendly tone
before we get into
reading the text.
Country music
originates from the
southern states and
we get this
impression from the
colour tone.

5. Front cover - design
I like the way the masthead and strapline
fit together under the ‘descender’ letter of
the masthead. The cover lines also fit in a
clever way around the character in the
image where they don’t obstruct any part
of the image. The font used is sans serif
which makes it very clear and easy to read.

6. Contents page - design
This also has a basic layout. This suggests
that’s what the target audience are
interested in. There is no attempt to link
the images and text together in
continuation with the theme of simplicity
that is thus far evident. It splits the
magazine into four sections which makes
stories easier to locate.

7. DPS - design
The text and
images here fit
together well. The
text obscures very
little of the image
which gives the
reader the
opportunity to
draw clear
connotations from
the image.

8. Front cover - images
The image here links directly to the main
story - an interview with Ashley Monroe.
She is a famous country singer and this will
draw the target audience in as the
majority will immediately know who she
is. This gives a good representation of the
genre.

9. Contents page - images
The images used here are of the double
page spreads used for the five main
feature stories. They appeal to the target
audience as they all feature famous
country stars which represent the target
audience well and help to attract attention
of any reader.

10. DPS - images
The image used here is
a very good
representation of the
country genre. In the
background, we can see
a house which we would
associate with the
southern states of
America, the origin of
the country genre. In
the foreground we can
see men, wearing
checkered shirts,
cowboy hats and boots.
All of which we would
associate with the
working class, southern
state, country/folk
American.
