Building an Interactive Digital Out of Home Experience - Basic Considerations for Mobile & Social Interactivity on Digital Out of Home Networks, August 2009
Executive Summary
Simple text-to-screen and photo-to-screen applications are commonplace at pop concerts. Twitter feeds are springing up in conferences. It can't be too hard to add an engaging mobile and social interactive applications to digital out of home ("DOOH") networks, right? Wrong. A capable interactive DOOH network supports real-time user engagement. Engagement might come from a user at the location or via the web (e.g. via a social network connected to the location through the affinity of a brand). Engagement might be sporadic or frequent, but whenever it happens, it creates an enhanced user experience as well as a measurable "mobile click." The resulting "pulse" for the location can then be used to help the location or advertiser improve services and/or messaging.
Situation Normal Everything Must Change - from innovation to commoditisation ...Simon Wardley
General shortened version of the presentation covering evolution, change, mapping, ecosystems, cloud, economic cycles, commoditisation, componentisation, strategy and open approaches.
Web content: it’s the meat in the sandwich, not the icing on the cake. So why does planning for useful, usable content get short shrift in the design and development process? Thinking about the content is always left until the last minute, always thought to be “somebody else’s problem.” Teams are forced into crisis mode at the 11th hour, trying to deal with content that arrives too late, doesn't fit in the designs, or fails to live up to user expectations. In this session, User Experience expert Karen McGrane will talk about why we fail to plan for content, and how everyone involved can help make the process run more smoothly.

Enabling Innovators for the Era of the Social Enterprise: presented to Triple Helix 9 conference at Stanford University to address the opportunities for expanding the Silicon Valley model to emerging economies
Presented to Southern California Software Process Improvement Network, July 2011
As 'the cloud' becomes the mainstream platform for IT innovation, platform architects will combine smart devices, global networks, and application models inspired by Twitter and Facebook to let people do what they do best: to recognize what’s not normal, and either address the problem or pursue the opportunity.
The first decade of cloud computing decisively demonstrated that massively sharable/scalable systems can shrink operating costs and slash development delays, but the era of the Social Enterprise goes farther to turn the cloud model from a perceived challenge into a compelling avenue for IT innovations that need not compromise security or governance.
