Learning Competency:
Explain ingestion, absorption,
assimilation and excretion (S8LTIVa-
13)
a. Identify the organs that make up
the digestive system
b. Give the function of each organ
Have you tried cooking
food in your TLE
subject?
Who among you love
to cook food?
How about
love to eat
food?
Who among you love
to cook food?
How about
love to eat
food?

when you are still in
Grade VI?
Why is it important for
a person to know the
list of nutritious
food?
Have you wondered
how this food being
used in our body?
FOOD ROULETTE

Students will be divide into 5
groups. They will be arranged like in
this diagram:

I am thinking of “sisig”
Round 3:
I got hungry while shopping and I
am thinking of “ice cream”.
When you hear foods what
comes to your mind?
Boardwork:
Pick and post the exact
digestive organs on each
blank labeled body parts on
the board.
Digestive System Organization
• Gastrointestinal (Gl) tract
• Tube within a tube
• Direct link/path between organs
• Structures
• Mouth
• Esophagus
• Stomach
• Small intestine
• Large Intestine
• Rectum
• Liver
• Pancreas
• Gall bladder

When you see foods what
is your reaction?
What have you observed
from the video presented?
What happens when the
food enters our body?
How the process of
digestion occurs?
What will happen to the
particles that are not
absorbed in the small
intestines?
Why is it we feel
pain when there is
no food intake?
DIGESTIVE SYSTEM
Is the system responsible for breaking down
the food particles and gives nutrients to the
different parts of the body. It is a complex
process of turning the food you eat into
nutrients which our body uses for energy,
growth and cell repair needed to survive.
FIVE STAGES OF DIGESTION
1. INGESTION- It refers to the
entry of food into the
alimentary canal through the
mouth.
FIVE STAGES OF DIGESTION
2. ABSORPTION- is the process by which
digested food nutrients and water are taken from
the intestine and moved throughout the body.
FIVE STAGES OF DIGESTION
3. ASSIMILATION - is the movement of
digested food molecules into the cells of
the body where they are used.
FIVE STAGES OF DIGESTION
4. EXCRETION- the process of removing
wastes and excess water from the body. The
excretion in the digestive system works with
the excretory system to excrete or eliminate
the waste product of our body.
DISSECTION OF A FROG
A GUTSY GAME
This activity is a board game that needs at least two
players. The game demonstrates the flow of food into our
digestive system. The first one to reach the finish tile wins!
Objectives:
After performing this activity, you are expected to:
Identify the parts that compose the digestive system;
and Describe the function of each organ.
Materials Needed:
Game board
A piece of cube dice or six-sided small box with numbers 1 to 6
Playing token (e.g., pebble, button, etc.)
Procedure:
1. Find someone whom you can play the board game with.
2. Choose a playing token for you and your playmate; place your tokens
on the board’s starting line.
3. Take turns in rolling the dice.
4. The number on the dice tells the number of boxes you may move your token.
5. Should your token land on a box with instructions beside it, execute
the instructions.
The player who first makes it all the way throughout the digestive system and
down to finish line wins the game.
Study the figure below and answer the questions that follow.
Questions:
When does ingestion begin?
What happens to food when it is in your:
a. mouth
____________________________________________
b. stomach
____________________________________________
c. small intestine
____________________________________________
____________
How are nutrients from the food you eat absorbed
after digestion?
Why are villus and microvilli important in the human
digestive system?
What happens to the undigested food in the large
intestine?
1. Since we experienced
COVID19 pandemic, if our body
is infected with the Covid19
virus, what will happen to our
digestive system?
2. What organ of digestive
system can Covid19 virus
affect?
3. What will you do as a
student to avoid Covid19?
What are the differences
of 5 stages of digestion.
EVALUATION
DIRECTION: Explain the digestion
process (Ingestion, Absorption,
Assimilation and Excretion)
through Concept map. Answers
will be graded according to the
rubrics.
