Costume
By Matthew Doswell
The clothing used
is going to be fairly
simplistic, showing
the hope for
success rather
than being at a
stage where the
protagonist is
already successful.
The leggings signify
the dancing
stereotype, this
represents the
dream of being a
successful character,
however she will rip
her leggings
representing the end
of this dream
These shoes are
the traditional
ballet dancing
shoes, the
simplicity and
common use of
them almost
signifies the
character as
being
insignificant
due to the
number of
people who
also possess
these shoes,
and also those
who want to
make it.
They
represent
elegance and
the fragility
linking to her
physical and
emotional
state.
Showing it
only takes a
small amount
to break the
character,
which
eventually
takes the
protagonist
into her
suicidal state.
The main characters
boyfriend is going to wear
this costume. The tracksuit
represents the sloppiness
of the character and
stereotypically shows him
as what many would view
as a “chav”. The hoodie
gives this character more
of an intimidating side and
makes him appear more
menacing, which is what
helps lead the main
character to her eventual
suicide.
The tracksuit bottoms give a similar
feeling to the hoodie, this is due to
the ‘lazy’ style they appear to leave,
we are also going to put holes in it
and make it appear messy. This will
allow it to keep with the
stereotypical look of an abusive
boyfriend and hopefully mainly from
the look of him the audience will be
able to get a dark feel from this
character
The character is going
to be wearing some
dirty reebok shoes,
mainly to represent
the factor that he is a
sloppy careless
character. The main
representation of him
is that he is a horrible
person, this is so the
audience can side with
the main character so
they feel more
empathy when she
commits suicide.
