QUESTION 4
By Matthew Doswell
HOW DID YOU RECORD THE
PROCESS OF YOUR BLOG
ELECTRONICALLY?
One site I used was the site called ‘Prezi 'this is a way of presenting my
presentation electronically. It offers a clean eloquent look, allowing me to present
my presentations in a neat and easy way whilst looking advanced. It also allows
for videos to be simply put in the presentation, allowing for easy inter-textual
references within. The site is also very interesting, keeping engagement for those
who read it.
I used ‘slide share’ which was a website that allowed me to place my
PowerPoint presentations and present them to an audience. From here I could
also embed them on to my blog, something I couldn’t do straight from my
PowerPoint presentations. This was often used for my case studies due to being
a simple yet effective way of presenting my points, this was mainly due to the
content which needed to be shown, this large scale allowed audiences to watch
and enjoy due to its simplicity. It also allowed me to use screenshots and photos
making it very effective when presenting, allowing for easy inter-textual references.
I could use blogger for both presenting and creating work. I occasionally used
blogger as a document when planning for my music video, this was because it
had all the functions needed to create a presentation for audience members,
allowing for screenshots and photos having functions which were necessary for
many parts of my media work. The site also allowed for feedback, by having a
HOW DID YOU USE TECHNOLOGY
WHEN RESEARCHING YOUR MEDIA
PRODUCTION/PRINT PRODUCTION?
I used a website named ‘Best of British’ this is a site which shows many different unsigned British artists, giving me a simple way to find and
listen to these different artists helping me find them specific to the video I’ve created. Another advantage of the website is it allows you to see a
map showing where all the artists locations are, meaning that I could find variety’s of artists from specific locations allowing me to have more
information on the artist I was using.
When discovering my track, I went on to the artist Michael Reeve’s website to find out more about him and whether the music lyrically would fit
the video I was aiming to create. It also gave me the details of Michael Reeve helping me contact him as well as giving me an incite into what
genre of music he believes he creates.
I used google mail when it came to contacting Michael, this was due to the simplicity it gave, whilst also creating more of a formal setting rather
than a social networking site such as Facebook or Twitter. It also appeared more polite and gave us a certainty that he would see our email. Due
to using this platform we received a reply very quickly conforming that we could use his track.
It was important to use YouTube when it came to creating my course work, for example within my representation case study I was able to watch
the video for Alt J’s ‘Tessellate’ whilst also allowing me to get screenshots for my work.
HOW DID YOU USE TECHNOLOGY WHEN
PLANNING FOR MEDIA PRODUCTS?
I used YouTube when it came to researching videos, here I was able to look at different
types of videos and also those that were specific to my music video, It helped inspire ideas
for me as I was able to look at many different examples of music videos, for example Alt
J’s Breezeblocks video helped inspire the reverse I created at the end of my music video
change the perspective for the audience. It also allowed me to listen and discover
unsigned artists, this allowed me to see Michael Reeve’s video for Here We Are, overall
letting me decide whether my video fit into the genre.
I used the website Prezi when coming to delivering my planning for my different media
products, for example when it came to creating my pitch ideas I was used this site, it
creates a diverse way for presenting and allowed me to receive easy feedback.
HOW DID YOU USE TECHNOLOGY TO COLLABORATE WITH
YOUR GROUP DURING YOUR MEDIA PRODUCTION
I used social media often when collaborating with the rest of my group, for example Facebook Messenger. Here
I was able to contact the group and actors simply within a group, this gave us opportunities to find what times
everyone was available when it came to filming our video keeping the group organised. We often texted when
it came closer to the time assuring that the correct props and clothing were being brought by each member,
keeping everything in order certifying that we had everything correct for each shot. Google drive allowed me
and Reece to share the larger footage we had gotten meaning we could give each other examples of different
ways we were editing our videos, overall benefiting both of us for our videos and print productions. We used
Google mail when it came to sharing photos on shoots, this was happened during the process when creating
the print productions allowing us to share images we had both taken of the actors or scenery we had found,
allowing both of us to have the correct footage and photos.
HOW DID YOU USE TECHNOLOGY DURING
THE SHOOTING OF YOUR MEDIA
PRODUCTION
We used a digital camera when filming and taking photos for our media productions. This
was advantageous for us as we were able to re watch clips we had just shot, allowing us to
see whether the shot just taken worked for the aims of the video meaning we didn’t need
to take too many shots of the same scene, this especially helped when it came to the
editing as we didn’t have hours of footage to look through. The camera we used had a
setting which reduced the shake of the camera, this was very beneficial due to previous
edits I had created there was a problem with the stillness of the camera, by having this
setting it increased the look of each shot assuring professionalism. We used the music
from the song whilst one of the actors was dancing, this helped us keep the timing the
same length as the edit, meaning that the music wouldn’t look out of synch to the edit.
We did this by using YouTube and playing the track out loud. We shared the final footage
by sending music videos through the use of a memory stick, this was important as we
were able to discuss the footage we had got, also stopping the video from being reduced
in quality, meaning all the footage was in the same condition between both of our edits.
HOW DID YOU USE SPECIFIC EDITING
EFFECTS TO ENHANCE THE QUALITY OF THE
PRODUCTION?
I tried different editing software's and practiced by putting clips together, I originally
used movie maker, however I felt this was to basic for the video I was attempting to
create, it didn’t allow some of the features I wanted in my video for example reversal.
I then began to use the software called Filmora, this gave me all the editing I needed
to create my video, with effects such as fades and dissolves. It also allowed me to
edit the length of each of these different edits, meaning I had the software I needed
when creating the video. One edit I used was an RGB, allowing me to increase the
colours meaning the shot came out lighter adding to the intensity of the scene.
