The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

The poster is promoting the film ‘Titanic’ by
showing scenes from the film and adding
information. The image is split into two
representing the relationship between the two
main characters and the ship ‘The Titanic’ to
reinforce that the story is based on truth.
Image
The use of the two characters in that pose
represents the romance between them which is
conventional to the genre. The pose shows that
they are dancing together and this reinforces
the romantic genre and allows the audience to
see that this is a romance film. The merging of
the two images (the couple and the ship) allows
the audience to see that this film is based on the
true story of the sinking ship which shows that
this film is going to be an emotional; film and
therefore a dramatic romance. The ship is also
splitting the image up and this is symbolic of the
way the ship is used in the film to jeopardise
their love. The use of the fading effect around
the couple mimics the way a soft fading
transition is used during romance trailers. The soft fade connotes femininity and therefore
connotes romance which is conventional to genre. The mise en scene used in this shot such
as the costume of the couple is symbolic of the issues within their relationship because she
was wealthy and he was of lower social class. Their outfits are symbolic of this issue that
they have to face in the film which represents the conflict within the relationship which is
conventional to genre as this is what is expected in a romance film.
The use of colour is representative of the romance genre because the background behind
the couple is pink. This represents love and happiness and because it is surrounding the two
characters, this is symbolic of their love which is conventional to genre. The dark blue of the
ocean in the terminal area of the poster represents the darkness and the tragedy of the film
and these contrasts to the light pink above it. Deep blue also connotes wealth which
matches the colour of the dress she is wearing which represents her wealth in the film. The
use of white text against the dark background colours allows the audience to clearly read
the text and read the information given about the film.
2. This frame is from the trailer ‘Titanic’. This frame is a close up shot of the main female
character. The close up shot shows her emotions in this dramatic scene during the film
which represents that this film is a dramatic romance. The close up allows the audience to
see her emotions and the focus on her is symbolic that she is the main character. The shot is
quite faded and this is because this is an action shot and has a transition dissolve and
therefore the image is slightly faded as a result of the transition. This type of transition is
conventional for genre because it is a soft transition which connotes femininity and
romance.
The low key lighting connotes danger and in this scene, is symbolic to the devastation that is
taking place. The low key lighting represents the darkness that surrounds their relationship
and the tragedy that ends their romance. The low key lighting is conventional to genre
because it is representative of the issues in their relationship.
3. This frame is representative of the main male character in the film. This close up shot shows
him gazing at the female character, which is symbolic of the attraction between them at the
beginning of the film. The close up shows his attention focused on the female character and
this signifies the attraction he has for her. This is conventional for genre because this shot
represents the romance between them.
The use of the white background represents purity and is considered the colour of
perfection. The white background is symbolic of his thoughts about the female character
and this is conventional for genre because it represents the romance. The white background
also creates depth of field, which allows the audience to focus on his face and his facial
expressions.
The close up shot shows him looking upwards at the female character, which is symbolic of
the fact that she is of higher social class and this is an issue in their relationship. This shot
represents the challenge they face because of the difference in their social classes. This is
conventional to genre because a romance film is expected to have some sort of challenges
that the couple have to face during the film.
4. This close up shot represents the attraction and romance between the couple. This shot
shows the two main characters together in a romantic pose. This represents the intimacy
between the two characters and the attraction between them.
The use of low key lighting creates a romantic setting and is conventional for genre. The
focus pull on the female character draws attention to her as she is speaking in this scene.
The focus pull uses a soft blur on the rest of the shot which draws attention to her instead
of the audience getting lost in the entire shot.
The use of mise en scene such as her earring is used to represent her wealth in comparison
to the male character. This is used to represent the differences in their relationship which
end up being the issues in their relationship.
5. This shot is used to represent the female characters wealth and it represents the challenges
within the relationship which is expected of a romance film. The maid positioned behind her
is done to represent her social class and the fact that she is of higher class than the maid.
The fact she has a maid is also symbolic of her wealth and the shot is composed so that the
female character is in focus which also represents her importance while the maid is softly
blurred.
The low key lighting creates a dark and mysterious setting and her concerned expression in
the close up shot creates a sense of worry and panic. This contrasts to the romantic scenes
in the trailer and it represents the issues they have in their relationship.
The close up shot allows the audience to see their facial expressions and express their
emotions and the wide shot allows the audience to see both characters and allows the
composition to create the effect of social class.
