Kyle Whittaker surveyed an audience about the conventions used in their horror trailer project. The audience found the creepy antagonist girl and everyday setting to be the main conventions used. They felt the sound design with non-diegetic music was also very conventional. However, the audience was split on whether the camerawork and editing were conventional, possibly due to a lack of variety. Most agreed the mise-en-scene could have included more conventional horror elements like violence. But the subtle lighting and setting conveyed the intended creepy tone effectively. Both the magazine cover and poster were found to be conventional in their sinister images of the antagonist and professional design.

1) Audience feedback from test screenings of the film trailer criticized the killer's motivation for murdering victims as it did not seem reasonable for the character to kill because his mother left the family. However, the filmmakers decided to keep their original plot after researching that killers in slasher films often have psychological problems from troubled pasts.
2) Other negative feedback was that the trailer showed too many long scenes revealing future plot points and not enough focus on the killer stalking victims. This made it lack tension between the killer and victims.
3) A classmate commented that the killer's casual clothing did not suit his character, but the filmmakers chose to keep it to make him seem mysterious to viewers.
Part 1) Research and Planning
The student carried out extensive research for their media production project. This included researching similar music magazines, camera angles and shots, presentation technologies, and the genres they planned to feature. They also conducted audience research by getting feedback on their treatment and storyboard ideas through a YouTube video. Compared to last year's music magazine project, the student improved at keeping in regular contact with actors, presenting their work more clearly through blogging, and using visual media like videos to demonstrate their research and planning.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. Conventions questionnaire results
- 2. Question 1 Over all my audience found my trailer conventional of the horror genre, this was the intended response I wanted to attain.
- 3. Question 2 More specifically, they found the creepiness of the antagonist girl to be the main convention of the horror genre I used in my trailer. I did this by using the technical areas (Camerawork, editing, sound and mise-en-scene) to connote a sense of mystery and uneasiness around the character. They also mentioned the everyday setting being a good convention I used as well as the non-diagetic music adding to the genre convention significantly.
- 4. Question 3 Overall my audience found my use of camerawork conventional but it was a close split between those who found it conventional and those who did not. I think this is due to my lack of varied shots as I paid more attention to what was going into the shot rather than how the camera was positioned and moving to be more creative. This is something I would improve if I did this project again.
- 5. Question 4 The editing in my trailer had the same level of conventions as the camerawork, my audience was split on this question. I think this is also due to the lack of variety in the editing and how I spent more time tweaking subtle lighting in post- production than cutting shots together in a more interesting way. Again this is something which has room for improvement.
- 6. Question 5 My audience was united in the opinion of my sound being conventional, I expected this due to the non-diagetic music I used which I found to be perfect for the premise of the film, the child connotations in a creepy slow paced music was perfect for what I wanted to achieve.
- 7. Question 6 The conventions of the mise-en-scene was something else some of my audience thought could be improved but overall most thought it was conventional. I agree it could have had more conventional signifiers such as blood and weapons and violence but the theme I was going for was creepiness and holding back which would make the audience wonder what the antagonist was capable of which would be scarier, terror over horror. My audience did however notice the subtle lighting and use of setting in the trailer.
- 8. Question 7 My audience did find my magazine cover conventional of the horror genre I believe this was mostly due to the main image I used and how I edited it in the most conventional way I could to look as creepy and sinister as possible. Accompanied by the use of conventional fonts and name of the magazine.
- 9. Question 8 My audience also found my poster to be conventional and again I think this is due to the main image and what went into it, the shot is set up very specifically and edited to look very creepy and sinister while showing the main antagonist which is conventional of horror posters.
- 10. Question 9 My audience did comment on the main images of both the poster and magazine cover as being conventional by showing the main antagonist in a creepy way, the editing and mise-en-scene of the images was something they found to be very well done. They also commented on the professional look of the products through the font choices and layout being very conventional.
