This paper proposes a dynamic power decoupling DPD strategy for the three phase grid tied PV power system without increasing the dc link capacitance. Under normal condition, the interleaved boost converter will extract the maximum power point MPP from the PV array and the three phase inverter will inject the power to the grid. During the unbalanced grid fault scenario, the input power and current of the interleaved boost converter will be controlled by the proposed DPD to achieve the power decoupling capability as well as to eliminate the dc link voltage oscillation. The proposed work has been carried out in MATLAB, and the results are presented. system using a current-source inverter. This system is directly connected utility grid to a solar cell without
using a boosting converter. In proposed grid connected PV system the single phase CSI converter used with a
double tuned resonant filter circuit. The system uses transformer-less single-stage transformation for
tracking the most extreme power point and interfacing the photovoltaic array to the grid. The greatest power
point is kept up with a fuzzy logic controller. A proportional-resonant controller is used to control the current

Design and Analysis of Three Phase Inverter with Two Buck/Boost MPPTs for DC ...IJERA Editor
Anintegration and operation of a three-phase inverter with twobuck/boost maximum power point trackers
(MPPTs) for dc-distribution applications. In a dc-distribution system, a three phase inverter isrequired to control
the power flow between dc busand three phase ac grid, and to regulate the dc bus to a certainrange of voltages.
A droop regulation mechanism according to the inverter inductor current levels to reduce capacitor size, balance
power flow, and accommodate load variation is proposed. Since thephotovoltaic (PV) array voltage can vary
from 0 to 5000 V, especially with thin-film PV panels, the MPPT topology is formed with buck and boost
converters to operate at the dc-bus voltage around 4000 V, reducing the voltage stress of its followed inverter.
Additionally, the controller can online check the input configuration of the two MPPTs, equally distribute the
PV-array output current to the two MPPTs in parallel operation, and switch control laws to smooth out mode
transition. A comparison between the conventional boost MPPT and the proposed buck/boost MPPT integrated

In a distributed generation system, divers renewable agents are connected to the low voltage 3 phase utility grid by an inverter which is used as power condition and must assurance the higher efficiency of the renewable agent. To achieve this level of efficiency, a unitary power factor between the utility grid voltages and the inverter currents is necessary, and a synchronization algorithm is required for the perfect synchronization between the 3-phase utility grid and the renewable agent. The aim of this paper is to present the optimization of the performance of a Synchronization controller for a 3-phase photovoltaic grid-connected system, assessing its accuracy under different conditions and studying their drawbacks and advantages. A grid connected photovoltaic system with a nominal power of 5 kW is used so as to assess the behavior of the synchronization algorithm when the 3 phase utility grid is affected by some disturbances such as voltage unbalances.
A New Control Method for Grid-Connected PV System Based on Quasi-Z-Source Cas...IAES-IJPEDS
In this paper, a new control method for quasi-Z-source cascaded multilevel inverter based grid-connected photovoltaic (PV) system is proposed. The proposed method is capable of boosting the PV array voltage to a higher level and solves the imbalance problem of DC-link voltage in traditional cascaded H-bridge inverters. The proposed control system adjusts the grid injected current in phase with the grid voltage and achieves independent maximum power point tracking (MPPT) for the separate PV arrays. To achieve these goals, the proportional-integral (PI) controllers are employed for each module. For achieving the best performance, this paper presents an optimum approach to design the controller parameters using particle swarm optimization (PSO). The primary design goal is to obtain good response by minimizing the integral absolute error. Also, the transient response is guaranteed by minimizing the overshoot, settling time and rise time of the system response. The effectiveness of the new proposed control method has been verified through simulation studies based on a seven level quasi-Z- Source cascaded multilevel inverter.

Voltage Regulation with Hybrid RES based Distributed Generation in the for Ac...IJMTST Journal
In this paper adaptive zone-based Volt/VAR management is proposed, which coordinates active
participation of DGs with conventional voltage regulation equipment. To achieve a flexible and scalable
solution while minimizing complexity and requirements for data-handling capability, DG management
systems are integrated with decentralized parts of the Volt/VAR management system in smaller
geographical zones. Coordination of DGs with conventional voltage regulation equipment is based on
predefined control hierarchies. However, to reduce requirements for data handling capability, the distribution
grid is divided into zones with individual voltage regulation and reactive support schemes. To add flexibility
and scalability, these zones can be combined into larger zones with a common Volt/VAR management
scheme. This is referred to as adaptive zoning. The results indicate that the control schemes successfully
restore voltage to within limits after disturbance of grid conditions. Adaptive zoning effectively reduces
system complexity and requirements for data handling capability, while still ensuring a grid-wide solution.

Grid-Connection Control and Simulation of PMSG Wind Power System Based on Mul...ijsrd.com
This dissertation proposes a wind energy conversion system is composed of a wind turbine PMSG, a rectifier, and an inverter. The wind turbine PMSG transforms the mechanical power from the wind into the electrical power, while the rectifier converts the AC power into DC power and controls the speed of the PMSG. The controllable inverter helps in converting the DC power to variable frequency and magnitude AC power. With the voltage oriented control, the inverter also possesses the ability to control the active and reactive powers injected into the grid. Multilevel inerter is used to step up the voltage and to reduce the THD. Here nine level and eleven level inverter are used and the voltage increases and THD reduces from 12.87 % to 7.46 %. Active and reactive power is controlled dc stabilization and the reactive power is near to unity Here PI controller is used to control the inverter output rms voltage and LC filter is used to remove the harmonics available in the system.
Mitigation of Voltage Fluctuations in Power System Using STATCOMIJERA Editor
Wind energy being a renewable source of energy is enjoying a rapid growth globally. However, wind energy being an uncontrollable source of energy coupled with the fact that it uses distributed induction generators for power conversion poses a challenge in integrating a large scale wind-farm into a weak power system. An actual weak power system with two large Wind-Farms (WFs) coupled to it is introduced as part of this study. A model of this integrated system along with a STATCOM for steady state and dynamic impact study is developed in the MATLAB/Simulink environment. The power quality issues are highlighted and a centralized STATCOM is proposed to solve the issue of the voltage fluctuations in particular in addition to addressing the other issues. Based on the results obtained from the simulation, the system voltage control issues are analyzed and the location of STATCOM is assessed. Finally, a STATCOM control strategy for suppression of voltage fluctuations is presented.
Design and Simulation of a Three Phase Power Converter Connected To a Distrib...IJERA Editor
The distributed generation systems based on renewable energy sources (photovoltaic, fuel cells, and storage systems such as ultra capacitors and batteries) are of great interest due to their low environmental impact and technical advantages such as improvements in voltage levels and reduced power losses when a distributed generation system is installed in radial lines. Two control algorithms were proposed to improve the grid-connected and intentional-islanding operations methods, in which the distributed generation system must detect the situation and switch from power or current to voltage as a control variable to provide constant rms voltage to the local loads. The power flow between the grid and the distributed generation is controlled by applying a power/voltage method that regulates the amplitude and the displacement of the grid voltage synthesized by the distributed generation, while a phase-locked loop algorithm is used to synchronize the grid and distributed generation.
Implementation of a Voltage Multiplier based on High Step-up Converter using FLCIJMTST Journal
A Front end of the Photovoltaic Solar Panel is been proposed based on Step-Up Converter. The use of
distributed energy resources is increasingly being pursued as a supplement and an alternative to large
conventional central power stations. The specification of a power electronic interface is subject to
requirements related not only to the renewable energy source itself but also to its effects on the power-system
operation, especially where the intermittent energy source constitutes a significant part of the total system
capacity. Implementing a voltage multiplier module, an asymmetrical interleaved high step-up converter
obtains high step-up gain without operating at an extreme duty ratio. The voltage multiplier module is
composed of a conventional boost converter and coupled inductors. An extra conventional boost converter is
integrated into the first phase to achieve a considerably higher voltage conversion ratio. The two-phase
configuration not only reduces the current stress through each power switch, but also constrains the input
current ripple, which decreases the conduction losses of metal–oxide–semiconductor field-effect transistors.
In addition, the proposed converter functions as an active clamp circuit, which alleviates large voltage spikes
across the power switches. Finally, the simulation circuitry with a 40V input voltage and 230V output voltage
is operated to verify its performance analysis with respect to the Fuzzy Logic Controller. The highest
efficiency is 97.75%.

After a blackout
If a blackout (a near total loss of generation and load) takes place, efforts have to be taken to bring back the
system to a normal state at the earliest. It may surprise you to know that this (black starting!) is not an easy
task. We shall see why in this lecture.
Once a generator is tripped, restarting it requires a significant amount of power. Power is required for 2 types of
activities:
a) Survival Power: For emergency lighting, battery chargers etc. Usually the requirement is 0.3% of the
generator capacity.
b)
Startup Power: For starting power plant auxiliaries (pumps etc.) Interestingly, nuclear and thermal units
require approximately 8 % of the unit capacity for auxiliaries alone! Therefore, a 500 MW generator
requires approximately 40 MW for running its auxiliaries.
Hydro and Gas units, on the other hand, require only about 0.5-2% of unit capacity for auxiliaries and can be
started usually from in-house DG sets.
The major steps required for restoration are:
a) Islands which have survived need to be stabilised for frequency and need to be used for starting other
units
b) Hydro/Gas units which require less startup power need to be started using in-house DG sets.
c) Larger thermal units need to be fed "startup power" from: 1) Islands which have survived 2)
Blackstarted generators 3) Other synchronous grids (temporarily)
d) Started units are synchronised with one another.
e) Loads and Generation have to be matched as much as possible to avoid large frequency variations.
Governors have a major role in stabilizing frequency in an island.
Power Quality Improvement of Grid Interconnection of renewable Energy Based D...IJERA Editor
This paper presents a grid interfacing inverter which compensates power quality problems and also interface Renewable Energy Sources with the help of electric grid. Renewable Energy Sources are being increasingly connected in distribution system utilizing power electronic converters. Grid interfacing inverter can be used: 1) To improve the transfer of active power harvested from RES; 2) To meet load reactive power demand support ; 3) To reduce current harmonics by incorporating the current harmonic compensator at point of common coupling(PCC) ; 4) current unbalance and neutral current compensation in case of 3-phase 4-wire system. The fuzzy logic can be used in many applications especially, when the process/models are complex to analyse by using classical methods. Mainly fuzzy logic controller is used to control DC capacitor voltage. Simulations are carried out using MATLAB/SIMULINK to verify the performance of the controller. The output shows the controller has fast dynamic response high accuracy of tracking DC voltage reference and robust to load parameters variations.
These slides describe about conventional load modelling and approaches for load model parameter identification. Later of the class I will discuss about the DG, DSM and EV modelling.

Power quality optimization using a novel backstepping control of a three-phas...IJECEIAES
A novel nonlinear backstepping controller based on direct current (DC) link voltage control is proposed in three-phase grid-connected solar photovoltaic (PV) systems to control the active and reactive power flow between the PV system and the grid with improved power quality in terms of pure sinusoidal current injection with lower total harmonic distortion (THD), as well as to ensure unity power factor, or to compensate for reactive power required by the load, i.e., the electrical grid. The output power of the PV array is supplied to the grid through a boost converter with maximum power point tracking (MPPT) control and an inverter. Simulation results of the proposed controller show good robustness under nominal conditions, parameter variations, and load disturbances, which presents the main advantage of this controller as compared to an existing controller. The performance of this work was evaluated using a MATLAB/Simulink environment.

The main applications of the STATCOM are; Distribution STATCOM (D-STATCOM) exhibits high speed control of reactive power to provide voltage stabilization and other type of system control. The DSTATCOM protects the utility transmission or distribution system from voltage sag and /or flicker caused by rapidly varying reactive current demand. During the transient conditions the D-STATCOM provides leading or lagging reactive power to active system stability, power factor correction and load balancing.
Seamless Transitions between Grid-Connected and Stand-Alone Operations of Dis...IJERD Editor
Control of the Distributed Generation (DG) system is important in both grid-connected and standalone
modes and the system stability becomes very crucial during the transfer between these two modes. If the
system does not have a proper transfer procedure, severe transient voltages or currents will occur, which may
damage the entire system. A seamless transfer can ensure smooth operation and quick attainment of steady state.
In order to solve these transition problems, this paper presents the development and test of a control strategy for
DG capable of working in grid-connected and intentional islanding connection modes with seamless transitions
from both operational modes.
An inverter system applied with the PV source typically has a problem of lower input voltage due to constraint in the PV strings connection. As a countermeasure a DC-DC boost converter is placed in between to achieve a higher voltage at the inverter DC link for connection to the grid and to realize the MPPT operation. This additional stage contributes to losses and complexity in control thus reducing the overall system efficiency. This work discussed on the design and development of a grid-connected quasi-Z-source PV inverter which has different topology and control method compared to the conventional voltage source inverter and able to overcome the above disadvantages. Modelling and performance analysis of the voltage and current controller to achieve a good power transfer from the PV source, as well sycnchronization with the grid are presented in detail. Results from both simulation and experimental verification demonstrate the designed and developed grid-connected qZSI PV inverter works successfully equivalent to the conventional voltage source inverter system.
Sensor-less DC-Voltage Control for Grid-Connected InvertersIJAEMSJORNAL
Three-phase grid-connected inverters using solar energy are applied very popular with large capacity. These inverters usually have input power sources in the direct current (DC) that varies according to the weather conditions. The DC voltage often needs to boost up the higher voltage level to be in accordance with the output voltage of inverters. Then, the output voltage of the DC/DC boost converter is in the form of DC voltage. In order to measure this DC value in the two-stage inverters, the existing methods usually use isolated voltage sensors. This paper presents a strategy for estimating the DC voltage value of inverters without using sensors in order to reduce cost and volume for inverters. The proposed method contributes to decreasing the price of inverters while ensuring the power quality of inverter outputs. The simulated results on MATLAB/Simulink have validated the performance of the presented solution.
In this paper, using a neural controller and a genetic optimization algorithm to control the voltage as well as, control the frequency of the grid along with the management of the reactive power of the micro-grid to control the output power during islanding using Simultaneous bilateral power converters with voltage/frequency droop strategy and optimization of PI coefficients of parallel power converters by genetic-neural micro-grid algorithm to suppress AC side-current flow that increases stability and improvement of conditions frequency and voltage are discussed. Given the performance of the micro-grid in two simulation scenarios, namely transition from on-grid to off-grid, the occurrence of a step change in load in island mode as well as return to working mode is connected. The ability to detect the robust performance and proper performance of two-level neural controller. The controller performance time was also very good, indicating the appropriate features of the method used to design the controller, namely two-level neural, genetics. The main advantage of this method is its simplicity of design. The method used is also efficient and resistant to changes in the system, which results from the simulations.
Control technique for single phase inverter photovoltaic system connected to ...jbpatel7290
In photovoltaic system connected to the grid, the main goal is to control the power that the inverter injects into the grid
from the energy provided by the photovoltaic generator. The power quality injected into the grid and the performance of the
converter system depend on the quality of the inverter current control. In this paper, a control technique for a photovoltaic
system connected to the grid based on digital pulse-width modulation (DSPWM) which can synchronize a sinusoidal output
current with a grid voltage and control the power factor is proposed. This control is based on the single phase inverter controlled
by bipolar PWM Switching and lineal current control. The electrical scheme of the system is presented. The approach is widely
explained. Simulations results of output voltage and current validate the impact of this method to determinate the appropriate
control of the system. A digital design of the control based on generator PWM using VHDL is proposed and implemented on
Field-Programmable Gate Array “FPGA”.

A Power quality problem is an occurrence of nonstandard voltage, current or frequency that results in a
failure or a misoperation of end user equipments. Utility distribution networks, sensitive industrial loads and
critical commercial operations suffer from various types of outages and service interruptions which can cost
significant financial losses. With the increase in load demand, the Renewable Energy Sources (RES) are
increasingly connected in the distribution systems which utilizes power electronic Converters/Inverters. This
paper presents a single-stage, three-phase grid connected solar photovoltaic (SPV) system. The proposed system
is dual purpose, as it not only feeds extracted solar energy into the grid but it also helps in improving power
quality in the distribution system. The presented system serves the purpose of maximum power point tracking
(MPPT), feeding SPV energy to the grid, harmonics mitigation of loads connected at point of common coupling
(PCC) and balancing the grid currents. The SPV system uses a three-phase voltage source converter (VSC) for
performing all these functions. An improved linear sinusoidal tracer (ILST)-based control algorithm is proposed
for control of VSC. In the proposed system, a variable dc link voltage is used for MPPT. An instantaneous
compensation technique is used incorporating changes in PV power for fast dynamic response. The SPV system
is first simulated in MATLAB along with Simulink and simpower system toolboxes.

The Impact of Digital Media on the Decentralization of Power and the Erosion ...ijtsrd
The impact of digital media on the distribution of power and the weakening of traditional gatekeepers has gained considerable attention in recent years. The adoption of digital technologies and the internet has resulted in declining influence and power for traditional gatekeepers such as publishing houses and news organizations. Simultaneously, digital media has facilitated the emergence of new voices and players in the media industry. Digital medias impact on power decentralization and gatekeeper erosion is visible in several ways. One significant aspect is the democratization of information, which enables anyone with an internet connection to publish and share content globally, leading to citizen journalism and bypassing traditional gatekeepers. Another aspect is the disruption of conventional media industry business models, as traditional organizations struggle to adjust to the decrease in advertising revenue and the rise of digital platforms. Alternative business models, such as subscription models and crowdfunding, have become more prevalent, leading to the emergence of new players. Overall, the impact of digital media on the distribution of power and the weakening of traditional gatekeepers has brought about significant changes in the media landscape and the way information is shared. Further research is required to fully comprehend the implications of these changes and their impact on society. By comparing the simulation results with the practical results, the efficiency and performance of the designed converter are assessed. The findings indicate that while the buck converter is suitable for practical use in standalone PV systems, its efficiency is compromised due to a lower output current. Sustainable Energy by Paul A. Adekunte | Matthew N. O. Sadiku | Janet O. Sadikuijtsrd
Energy becomes sustainable if it meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. Some of the definitions of sustainable energy include the considerations of environmental aspects such as greenhouse gas emissions, social, and economic aspects such as energy poverty. Generally far more sustainable than fossil fuel are renewable energy sources such as wind, hydroelectric power, solar, and geothermal energy sources. Worthy of note is that some renewable energy projects, like the clearing of forests to produce biofuels, can cause severe environmental damage. The sustainability of nuclear power which is a low carbon source is highly debated because of concerns about radioactive waste, nuclear proliferation, and accidents. The switching from coal to natural gas has environmental benefits, including a lower climate impact, but could lead to delay in switching to more sustainable options. “Carbon capture and storage” can be built into power plants to remove the carbon dioxide CO2 emissions, but this technology is expensive and has rarely been implemented. Leading non renewable energy sources around the world is fossil fuels, coal, petroleum, and natural gas. Nuclear energy is usually considered another non renewable energy source, although nuclear energy itself is a renewable energy source, but the material used in nuclear power plants is not. The paper addresses the issue of sustainable energy, its attendant benefits to the future generation, and humanity in general. Paul A. Adekunte | Matthew N. O. Sadiku | Janet O. Concepts for Sudan Survey Act Implementations Executive Regulations and Stand...ijtsrd
This paper aims to outline the executive regulations, survey standards, and specifications required for the implementation of the Sudan Survey Act, and for regulating and organizing all surveying work activities in Sudan. The act has been discussed for more than 5 years. The Land Survey Act was initiated by the Sudan Survey Authority and all official legislations were headed by the Sudan Ministry of Justice till it was issued in 2022. The paper presents conceptual guidelines to be used for the Survey Act implementation and to regulate the survey work practice, standardizing the field surveys, processing, quality control, procedures, and the processes related to survey work carried out by the stakeholders and relevant authorities in Sudan. The conceptual guidelines are meant to improve the quality and harmonization of geospatial data and to aid decision making processes as well as geospatial information systems. The established comprehensive executive regulations will govern and regulate the implementation of the Sudan Survey Geomatics Act in all surveying and mapping practices undertaken by the Sudan Survey Authority SSA and state local survey departments for public or private sector organizations. The targeted standards and specifications include the reference frame, projection, coordinate systems, and the guidelines and specifications that must be followed in the field of survey work, processes, and mapping products. In the last few decades, there has been a growing awareness of the importance of geomatics activities and measurements on the Earths surface in space and time, together with observing and mapping the changes. In such cases, data must be captured promptly, standardized, and obtained with more accuracy and specified in much detail. The paper will also highlight the current situation in Sudan, the degree to which survey standards are used, the problems encountered, and the errors that arise from not using the standards and survey specifications. Towards the Implementation of the Sudan Interpolated Geoid Model Khartoum Sta...ijtsrd
The discussions between ellipsoid and geoid have invoked many researchers during the recent decades, especially during the GNSS technology era, which had witnessed a great deal of development but still geoid undulation requires more investigations. To figure out a solution for Sudans local geoid, this research has tried to intake the possibility of determining the geoid model by following two approaches, gravimetric and geometrical geoid model determination, by making use of GNSS leveling benchmarks at Khartoum state. The Benchmarks are well distributed in the study area, in which, the horizontal coordinates and the height above the ellipsoid have been observed by GNSS while orthometric heights were carried out using precise leveling. The Global Geopotential Model GGM represented in EGM2008 has been exploited to figure out the geoid undulation at the benchmarks in the study area. This is followed by a fitting process, that has been done to suit the geoid undulation data which has been computed using GNSS leveling data and geoid undulation inspired by the EGM2008. Two geoid surfaces were created after the fitting process to ensure that they are identical and both of them could be counted for getting the same geoid undulation with an acceptable accuracy. In this respect, statistical operation played an important role in ensuring the consistency and integrity of the model by applying cross validation techniques splitting the data into training and testing datasets for building the geoid model and testing its eligibility. The geometrical solution for geoid undulation computation has been utilized by applying straightforward equations that facilitate the calculation of the geoid undulation directly through applying statistical techniques for the GNSS leveling data of the study area to get the common equation parameters values that could be utilized to calculate geoid undulation of any position in the study area within the claimed accuracy. Both systems were checked and proved eligible to be used within the study area with acceptable accuracy which may contribute to solving the geoid undulation problem in the Khartoum area, and be further generalized to determine the geoid model over the entire country, and this could be considered in the future, for regional and continental geoid model. The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.

Embracing GenAI - A Strategic ImperativePeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

Fig.1: Structure of a typical single-stage PV system
A PV array consists of a number of PV modules or panels. A
PV module is an assembly of a large number of
interconnected PV cells [2]. The inverter in a PV system is
employed to transform the DC-voltage generated from a PV
module to a three-phase AC voltage. A three-phase inverter
has three legs with two switches in each leg.Theswitchingis
performed by carrier-based or space-vector- based Pulse-
Width Modulation(PWM).Theoutput quantityofaninverter
(voltage in VSI and current in CSI) is pulsed and Contains
switching harmonics along with a 50 Hz fundamental. In
order to separate the 50 Hz component, a filterisessential at
the AC terminal of the inverter, where it is interfaced to the
grid. Since the performance of the filter depends on the grid
impedance, special care must be practiced in the filter
design.
III. CONTROL STRUCTURE OF GRID CONNECTED
INVERTER
Control system of a grid connected inverter is responsible
for managing the power injection into the grid, obtained
from a distributed generator. Mostly, a control structure
based on two cascaded loops is employed for this purpose.
Voltage control loop is responsible for balancing the power
flow of the system. If there is more power available from the
dc side, the controller present in this loop changes the
reference current so that more ac power can be injectedinto
the grid. The current loop deals with maintenance of power
quality and reduction of harmonicspresentinthecurrent,so
that it can be injected into the grid. The control system can
be designed in one of the three reference frames which are
natural reference frame, stationary reference frame and
synchronous reference frame. In natural reference frame,
there needs to be a controller for each phase current. As the
currents are sinusoidal non-linear controllers likedead beat
and hysteresis are used in natural reference frame. To
achieve power flow between the renewable resource
generator and the utility network, theinjectedcurrentneeds
to be synchronized with the grid voltage. Different
algorithms are used for grid synchronization. The main
purpose of these algorithms is to obtain the phase
information of grid voltages. Transformation from natural
reference frame to stationary or synchronous reference
frame may be required to make this possible. To convert the
DC voltage into an AC signal, the switches, present in an
inverter, need to be switched on and off by providing pulses
at their gates. There are a number of techniques that can be
used to generate these pulses the most common beingSpace
Vector based Pulse Width Modulation and Sine Pulse Width
Modulation. As SPWM is used ought to be used in this work,
it is therefore introduced here.
In Sine wave based PWM, as the name suggests, a sine wave
is used to modulate the carrier wave to generate switching
signals. Fig. 2 shows the implementationofSPWMfora three
phase, 2-level inverter. The frequency of reference sine
waves dictates the frequency of fundamental component of
generated waves. The frequency of carrier wave (triangular
wave in figures) is the switching frequencyoftheinverter. In
case of a two-level full-bridge voltage source inverter, there
are six switches in total, with 2-switches in each leg for each
phase.
The pulses shown in Fig.2 are applied to the switches which
are connected to positive dc bus rail in each leg, and a
complimentary signal is applied to the switch connected to
negative dc rail. This ensures that only a maximum of one
switch is on at a time in a leg so that the DC bus does not get
shorted. Inverters, as being switching devices cannot be
directly connected to the grid. This is because the inverter
produces harmonics which degrades power quality.
Fig.2: SPWM
Transformers are expensive and bulky which leads to the
system being costly. Therefore, a transformer-less topology
to connect inverter to the grid has come into existence, and

that is by using a filter circuit as the interface. There are

Fig.4 Block Diagram of the two stage PV System
A boost converter is used widely in renewable energy
application such as solar generation and wind generation.
Because of intermittency of solar and wind generation, it is
very important to make the overall system efficient to
counterbalance the effect of intermittency. The block
diagram of the two stage PV System concept is shown in
Fig.4.
Fig. 5 Boost converter configuration
A boost converter contributes towards improvement in
efficiency of an overall system. A boost converter converts a
low-voltage level to a high-voltage level. In addition, it
regulates the power extracted from PV array along with the
constant voltage application attheterminal output.Thetwo-
stage PV array connected to the grid will require a constant
current injection in the DC-link,whichistheoutputcapacitor
of the boost converter. A constant current injection will
ensure the constant voltage of the DC-link and limited
fluctuation in the output voltage variation. Hence, the
inverter will get the constant input DC voltage, which is
necessary to improve the performance and efficiency of an
inverter. Moreover, the cost of a boost converter is less
compared to the other converters. Fig. 4 represents a basic
illustration of a boost converter havinginputvoltageVinand
output voltage Vo. During on switching, the diode will be
reversed biased, and hence input current would be same as
the inductor current. The output voltage during the on-
interval would be the voltage across the capacitor.Thevalue
of the capacitor should be sufficiently large enough to
maintain the constant voltage acrosstheload.Duringthe off-
interval, the inductor will discharge in the reverse direction,
which will cause a diode to become forward biased. The
voltage across the inductor would be the differencebetween
the input voltage and output voltage. The relation between
the input voltage and output voltagecanbederivedusing the
volt-sec balance across the inductor. According to the volt-
sec balance, the steady-state voltage across the inductor
would be zero for one cycle. The boost converter can be
designed in either continuous conduction mode (CCM) or
discontinuous conduction mode(DCM).InCCM,theinductor
current will be a non-zero value, whereas in DCM, the
inductor current attains zero value and may have
interleaved timing of zero inductor current for time (t). The
two main factors for the boost converter design are the
inductor and capacitor selection. The values of an inductor
and a capacitor are finalized based on several factors. The
selection of the capacitor is a very critical factorinregards to
the overall performance of the boost converter. It should be
sufficiently large to reduce thepoweroscillationtowardsthe
grid, and if not, then it may cause oscillation intheactiveand
reactive power towards the grid. The typical boost control
design contains a single closed loop control of the boost
controller. These controllers may control the voltage or
power through the boostcontroller. Theresultant errorfrom
the controller will drive the PWM, which changes the duty
ratio of the boost converter. The major disadvantage of the
conventional single-loop boost controller is the
uncontrollability of the current flowing through the boost
converter. The current control is desired to inject the
constant current into the inverter with fewer ripples. It can
be achieved using the dual loop control, which contains an
outer voltage loop and inner current control loop. In
addition, the transfer function of the boost converter has
zeros in the right half plane and a phase margin greater than
180. Therefore, the conventional voltage control method
would not be sufficient for the boost control. The outer
voltage loop here controls the constant PV terminal voltage,
which generates the reference signal for the inner current
loop. The error single from the inner current control loop
drives the PWM of the boost converter. Power DC/DC
converters have plenty of topologies, and the corresponding
conversion technique is a big research topic. By an
uncompleted statistics, there are more than 500 topologies
of power DC/DC converters existing. Dr. F. L. Luo and Dr.
H.Ye have firstly categorized all existing prototypes of the
power DC/DC converters into six generations theoretically
and evolutionarily since 2001. Their work is an outstanding
contribution in the development of DC/DC conversion
technology, and has been recognized and assessed by
experts worldwide.
The P&O algorithm is also called “hill-climbing”, but both
names refer to the same algorithm depending on how it is
implemented. Hill-climbing involves a perturbation on the

duty cycle of the power converter and P&O a perturbationin
the operating voltage of the DC link between the PV array
and the power converter [8]. In the case of the Hill-climbing,
perturbing the duty cycle of the power converter implies
modifying the voltage of the DC link between the PV array
and the power converter, so both names refer to the same
technique. In this method, the sign of the last perturbation
and the sign of the last increment in the power are used to
decide what the next perturbation should be. If there is an
increment in the power, the perturbation should be kept in
the same direction and if the power decreases, then the next
perturbation should be in the opposite direction. Based on
these facts, the algorithm is implemented. The process is
repeated until the MPP is reached. Then the operating point
oscillates around the MPP. This problem is common also to
the InCond method, as was mention earlier. A scheme of the
algorithm is shown in Fig.5.
