15. ModelsMy magazine will feature a main article on a new band called Betty Chicago. The band will be made up of two girls. I chose to make the band up of two girls because this challenges codes and conventions of a band, as usually bands are known to have little or no female members, therefore having a band with only two female members, it makes it different. And by having the members young , it will show the band are new and fresh, and therefore will appeal to a younger audience.I want the band to have quite unique, retro ‘look’, as I think this look is very appealing and it’s different from the stereotypical rock appearance. Also, I think it’s quirky and classy. I want to keep their look quite feminine and flirty, so it will appeal to both men and women.I want the girls to look fun loving, as this draws people in if a band look happy, excited and full of energy, as opposed to gloomy and dark. This will also fit in with the fact that they are young and care-free.

16. Hair & Make-upI want to look to be simple and understated, as it will make them look more down to earth and wholesome. Also, people with a fake, manufactured look can put people off and make them look less original. Also, I want to base it on a retro look, to make them look even more unique and a bit quirky.I am going to apply natural looking foundation to my models to match their skin colour. I’m using foundation because I wan their skin to have a flawless, radiant look, as it boosts appearance and will make them look healthier.Still keeping with the understated look, I want to accentuate their eyes using mascara and eyeliner, but not too much, just enough for their eyes to stand out. I chose to do this because it will draw the reader in.I want them to have natural looking ‘bed hair’ (the ‘just got out of bed’ look), as it will keep in with the understated look and will look pretty and effortless, implying natural beauty. Also, I find the over-styled look very off-putting and unappealing.

17. Costume – Model 1I’ve chosen a black & white polka-dot dress because this will give the model an iconic retro look. Also, the black and white colour of the dress is very understated and will make her red hair stand out. The dress will have an appropriate neck line (not too low), but will have a low leg cut, which will balance it out, making her look feminine but still flirty. This in conjunction with a waist-belt will make the look complete.I’ve chosen a pair of gold, shiny old-fashioned shoes as I thought they were really quirky.Chunky bracelets is a must-have for a retro look, which is why I have chosen them. They are going to be pearl and gold, which will keep the look classy.Patterned tights are good for adding more interest to an outfit if it’s quite plain, and they will also match her spotty dress.The model will be wearing a range of random wrist bands, as I wanted them to look as if they’re her own, making it more personal

18. Costume – Model 2By dressing the model in a plan grey knitted dress and a white knitted jumper, it keeps in with the simple, understated look. The dress will be quite short, giving the look a slight edgeI have chosen these shoes because they look vintage and quirky, which will make the look even more unique and appealing.I have chosen a gold chain as it will pick the look up a bit, also the gold chain will look quite vintageThe red headscarf will brighten up the outfit and will draw the reader in. Also, I will do it so that her hair is loosely tied up with the headscarf, creating an effortless, natural look. Also, a headscarf is a stereotypical retro item of clothingChunky bracelets is a must-have for a retro look, which is why I have chosen them. They are going to be pearl and gold, which will keep the look classy.

19. PropsI want this shoot to have a ‘teenage house party’ theme to it, as it will make the band look fun and care-free, and will make them appeal more to young people. Also, I’m doing this because I want their feminine appearance to contrast with their rebellious, reckless attitude.Beer is known as a man’s drink, and by including it in my shoot it will clearly show they’re at a house party but it also will show that although the girls a feminine they still have a masculine side. However, I’m also including glasses filled with wine, which will still make them more classy.I will have the models look as if they’re smoking cigarettes, which will add to the reckless attitude I’m trying to create for this band.I will have the models posing with a STYLE magazine, which will show that fashion is important to them. This also fits in with the stereotypical idea that appearance is at the top of a woman’s agenda.I have chosen to include an old car to show that it is set in a garage. Also, it creates an authentic retro atmosphere, and gives the impression that the photo shoot was done decades ago.

20. LightingI have chosen for the lighting to be quite dull, as I want the photos to look as if they have been taken at an actual house party decades ago. By having heavily artificial lighting, like a lot of magazine photo shoots have, will ruin the authentic retro look I am going for.The yellow spot-light will give my photos a warm glow, as well as creating dramatic shadows that will accentuate the features of the models. Dramatic lighting will also catch the attention of my reader, as the photos will stand out a lot.

21. LocationI have chosen a messy, cluttered garage for my photo shoot, as it will put emphasis on the fact that my photos are meant to look as if they have actually been taken at a teenage house party. By making the garage look messy, it will add to the reckless attitude of the band, as it shows that they don’t care where they are, they just want to party and have a good time!
