Embracing GenAI - A Strategic ImperativePeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

The contents page always contains the title of the magazine which is located near the title of the contents page.
4. Use of Columns
Columns are used to separate all the information and to keep it well organised to its easy for the viewer to
read. Most contents pages usually use up to 3 columns.
5. Use of images
All contents pages contain images to stop the viewer from getting bored and having to read lots of writing.
The images always relate to the contents and usually have one larger image and two smaller ones. All the
images have relevant mise en scene to the genre of the magazine and they also contain page numbers to
show the audience which page they can find the information.
6. Masthead and Issue information
The contents page repeats the Masthead of the magazine and the issue information off the cover page. This is
always placed towards the top of the magazine/next to or near the ‘Contents’ title.
8. Page Number at the Bottom
Every page contains the page number at the bottom of the page and it is usually if not always on the left hand
side.
9. House Style
Similarly to the cover page the contents page uses relevant mise en scene to the genre of the magazine. The font
used is also relative to the genre of the magazine, so if it’s a rock magazine the writing might be smashed or really
bold and crooked. The colours used also relate to the genre.
10. Section headings
The different sections on the contents page have headings for example, Feature content, Regular
content, Reviews etc. The headings are usually bolder or underlined to show the reader where a
different section starts and to break up the text to make it organised and easy to read.
11. Buzzword
A word used to intrigue the reader and make them want to read on. It’s usually an incentive, something free
or an offer such as ‘Free’.
