Editor's Notes
Being conscious of ones basic right and responsibilities as a consumer is a fundamental and desirable attitude of a buyer. When people are exposed different choices of good and services, they are likely to choose a cheaper products. This is critical because the use of a cheaper products, goods and services may turn out unsatisfactory for the consumer in the end. This lesson will give you the tools you need in being a wise and responsible consumer. A well informed and vigilant consumer is the best protected consumer.
Play on with the music. When it stops whoever has the crown (it must be worn on the head) must stand – up and answer the question raised by the teacher or whoever is assigned to give the questions.
If the student who has the crown answered the question correctly, he may then take 1 heart and 1 diamond from the crown and keep it until all the hearts and diamonds will be taken. In the end, the student who got the most hearts and diamonds owns a crown and wears it. He is then a Genius!
A better understanding of what a need really is.
Needs
In actuality, you only need four things to survive:
A roof over your head
Enough food and water to maintain your health
Basic health care and hygiene products
Clothing (just what you need to remain comfortable and appropriately dressed)
Everything that goes beyond this – a big house, name-brand clothes, fancy foods and drinks, a new car – is a want.
Does that mean that you should only buy the things that you need? Not at all. Life is meant to be lived, not survived. Treat yourself to some wants along the way, but do so when you can afford to, and enjoy those wants as the extras that they are.
Right to choose.
Consumers have the right to choose products from a wide array of goods. These goods must have affordable prices and be of good quality.
Ideally, you want both quality and quantity. Quality alone can be subjective and relative, while quantity on its own can be shallow and meaningless. Together, you can use quality to beget quantity.
Remember, however, that if you’re forced to choose between quality and quantity, err on the side of quality. Also, look for ways to balance competing interests and find the middle ground that works best for you.
Right to safety
Consumers have the right to be protected form goods and services that are hazardous to health and life.
Determine if product if BFAD BOH and DTI approved
One of the guarantees is that products must be of acceptable quality and this includes that the product is safe.
Right to a health environment
Consumers have the right to live in a hazard free environment that allows them to live with dignity and their well being assured.
We will identify by reading the labels of the product if it is free from mercury, parabens,, or the CFCs
Right to redress
Consumers have the right to be compensated for unsatisfactory goods and services.
If you found out that the product that if you bought is defective. You have the right to returned the product, and change it.
Right to information:
Consumers have the right to be protected from dishonest and misleading advertising and labelling. They also have the right to receive information that will guide them in making wise decisions.
to inform the consumer about the risks of a product or service by affixing the necessary usage instructions and warnings;
Right to representation
Consumers must be represented in the formulation and execution of government policies.
There must NGOs that will represent the consumer in the formulations of the laws.
Under RA 7394 of the Consumer Acts of the Philippines
Right to Consumer Education
Consumers have the right to acquire knowledge and skills to become an informed consumer.
They will give emphasis on two scenes in each place-how a wise and an unwise consumer purchase goods, products and services.
Let the students observe these activities presented.
The students will then relate their observation and insights on the activities presented.
Ask volunteers to summarize the task done. Then call on “The Genius” to improve on the said summary.
