– any concept step or advice THAT VARIOUS SOURCES GIVE TO AID
THE HEALTH STATUS OF AN INDIVIDUAL!!!
Read the health information below.
Warts are contagious.
Chocolates cause acne and pimples.
Cracking your knuckles causes arthritics.
Healthy people who eat a balanced diet do not need supplements.
Sleeping with wet hair causes mental disorder.
Jumping from the third step of the stairs on the first day of menstruation
reduce the number of bleeding days.
Circumcision is done for hygienic purpose only.
Touching hands of people with HIV may infect you with such.
Putting toothpaste on burns causes irritation.
Sleep need varies depending on the individual.

Three Components of Consumer Health
2.HEALTH PRODUCTS
– food, drugs, cosmetics, devices, biologicals, vaccines, in-vitro
diagnostic reagents, and household/urban hazardous substances
and/or a combination of and/or a derivative thereof (FDA Act, 2009)
a. Buy only medicines prescribed by physician.
b. Buy products that have passed the standards set by the
Department of Trade and Industry( DTI), the Bureau of Food
and Drugs ( BFAD)
c. Read the labels of processed, bottled and canned goods,
and look for the nutritional values and expiration dates.
d. Do not be swayed by propaganda advertisement.
e. Report deceitful health products and services to the
authorities.

Physician
- records the medical history of individuals, provides diagnoses,
performs medical examinations, and prescribes medications.
Healthcare practitioners
- an independent healthcare provider who is licensed to practice on a specific
area of the body
Allied health professionals
- a trained healthcare provider who practices under the supervision of a
physician or healthcare practitioner

- a facility that offers surgery without the patient being admitted in
the hospital.

- cater to a specific population with various health needs.
d. Extended Healthcare Facility
- facility that provides treatment, nursing care, and residential
services to patients, often the elderly.
Health insurance is a financial agreement between
an insurance company and an individual or group for
the payment of healthcare costs
Types of coverage:
▪ Medical insurance – pays for the fees of the health professionals
▪ Major medical insurance – payment for long-term diseases
▪ Hospitalization insurance – pays for the stay of the patient in
hospital
▪ Surgical insurance – pays for surgery
▪ Disability insurance – provides financing for members who suffer
from illnesses/ accidents
HEALTH MAINTENANCE ORGANIZATION(HMO)
-is a healthcare provider that offers medical services
that are availed through a prepaid amount of money.
-It is a business that requires a relatively reduced
monthly fee for subscribers.
-it hires or trains its own health professionals and
healthcare practitioners.

  • 7. What is a consumer health? ▪Consumer Health - a science concerned with helping you select health products and services wisely - refers to the state of well-being of a person who uses the information, products and services that will have a direct effect on his or her health.
  • 8. Three Components of Consumer Health 1.HEALTH INFORMATION – any concept step or advice THAT VARIOUS SOURCES GIVE TO AID THE HEALTH STATUS OF AN INDIVIDUAL!!!

Healthy people who eat a balanced diet do not need supplements. Sleeping with wet hair causes mental disorder. Jumping from the third step of the stairs on the first day of menstruation reduce the number of bleeding days. Circumcision is done for hygienic purpose only. Touching hands of people with HIV may infect you with such. Putting toothpaste on burns causes irritation. Sleep need varies depending on the individual.

  • 13. Three Components of Consumer Health 2.HEALTH PRODUCTS – food, drugs, cosmetics, devices, biologicals, vaccines, in-vitro diagnostic reagents, and household/urban hazardous substances and/or a combination of and/or a derivative thereof (FDA Act, 2009)

Read the labels of processed, bottled and canned goods, and look for the nutritional values and expiration dates. d. Do not be swayed by propaganda advertisement. e. Healthcare practitioners - an independent healthcare provider who is licensed to practice on a specific area of the body Allied health professionals - a trained healthcare provider who practices under the supervision of a physician or healthcare practitioner

Walk-In Surgery Center - a facility that offers surgery without the patient being admitted in the hospital. c. Health Center - cater to a specific population with various health needs. d. Extended Healthcare Facility - facility that provides treatment, nursing care, and residential services to patients, often the elderly.

Health insurance is a financial agreement between an insurance company and an individual or group for the payment of healthcare costs Types of coverage: ▪ Medical insurance – pays for the fees of the health professionals ▪ Major medical insurance – payment for long-term diseases ▪ Hospitalization insurance – pays for the stay of the patient in hospital ▪ Surgical insurance – pays for surgery ▪ Disability insurance – provides financing for members who suffer from illnesses/ accidents

HEALTH MAINTENANCE ORGANIZATION(HMO) -is a healthcare provider that offers medical services that are availed through a prepaid amount of money. -It is a business that requires a relatively reduced monthly fee for subscribers. -it hires or trains its own health professionals and healthcare practitioners.
  • 24. Other forms of Healthcare Complementary medicine - availed and integrated together with traditional medicine Alternative medicine - offered in place of traditional medicine.

  • 26. Republic Act No. 8423 also known as the Traditional and Alternative Medicine Act of 1997 provisioned the creation of the Philippine Institute of Traditional and Alternative Healthcare (PITAHC) law-making body with regards to the effective use of traditional and alternative medicine.
