Introduction
 An eight storied residential building have two parts. These are
sub-structure and super-structure.
 In a construction process both theoretical knowledge and practical work
are equally important.
 The longevity of construction work depends on monitoring of a ‘Site
Engineer’. So he is an important person of a project.
7
Objective
 The main objective of this project is to plan over construction
and to progress the construction process.
 To acquire practical knowledge.
 To increase monitoring work during construction process.
 To decrease amount of wastage materials.
 To optimum use of time and manpower.
 To make the project economical.

SlabForm work procedure:
 After completed the column casting work,
start slab with beam centering.
 Use bamboo posts @ 2' c/c for slab
centering.
 After that use timber for slab centering.
 Fixed the end of steel sheet with wood by
nails.
 Level the form of slab.
21
Figure: Centering of slab
Reinforcement placing:
 Bottom layer:
 Binding for bottom layer
reinforcement, mainly use two
categories.
 First one is short direction
reinforcement.
 Second one is long direction
reinforcement.
22
Figure: Slab reinforcement placing
 Crank bar :
Crank bar should be used in both way of slab.
 Extra top bar:
Extra top bar are to be used on every crank bar.
23
Clear cover:
 Clear cover 1" was taken
in every slab.

24
Slab Casting:
 At first slab casting by
concrete.
 After that concrete place in
column and beam joint,
then concrete place over whole
slab.
 Carefully compaction of concrete
by Vibrating machine.
25
Figure: Compaction of concrete
Brick Work
Working procedure of brick
wall:
 Select the first class bricks.
 Chipped and cleaned the
surface and made layout.
 Joint mortar was proper compacted by steel
trowel.
26
Figure : Brick work
 English bond was ensured.
 Vertical and horizontal alignment was maintained.
 1st lift brick work was, for 5" wall 4' and 10" wall 5'.
 Curing for 14 days was ensured.
27
Lintel Work
Working procedure of lintel:
 After completed 7' height brick wall,
lintel mainly made above the door and
window.
 For large span lintel used bamboo
posts.
 According to wall wide, completed the
centering and shattering.
28
Figure: Lintel centering and shattering
 Fixed the end of wood with brick wall
by nails.
 Used reinforcement in lintel.
 Casting properly, ratio is 1:2:4.
 Properly curing at least 7 days.
29
Figure : Reinforcement place in lintel work
Preparation of
background:
 At first clean the masonry and
RCC surface properly.
 If any part of the walls so
high, then cut the high part.
 The surface of wall kept moist
for at lest 6 hours before
plaster is started.
30
Figure : Preparation of background
High part
Preparation of mortar:
 Different works proportion were
different.
 For RCC ceiling surface proportion
was 1:4, brick wall surface
proportion was 1:5.
 Cement and sand mixture were
uniform.
31
Figure: Mortar mixture work
Application of mortar:
 Made pia of plaster 5˝x 5˝,
according to wall area was
divided into a number of
strips as reference level of
plaster.
 Applied the mortar
masonry wall surface and
RCC ceiling surface.
32
Figure: Plaster work
 Did not apply sand cement dry mix on the prepared
surface.
 If required plaster thickness more than 1". Did the plaster in 2 coats
(scratch and finish coat).
 Finished the surface with Gauging trowel, Wooden float and Floating rule.
33
Sanitary & Plumbing
Purpose of sanitary and plumbing:
 Conveying drinking water.
 Conveying wastewater.
 Conveying rain water.
 Waste disposal.
34
PVC/U-PVC pipe work procedure:
 At first made 4" hole in toilet floor.
 Then joint the sewerage and waste water pipes in
to the hole.
 Stand the pipes vertically from ground floor to
roof.
 Fixed the pipes on wall with vertically U-clamp
each 4' interval.
35
 Help to the pipe rain water & waste water
come directly in waste water pit & convey to
the city corporation drain.
 Similarly excreta directly come from toilet in
sewerage pit & go to the septic tank.

GI pipe work procedure:
 Did not start groove cutting for pipes
in wall, which is not cured for more
than 24 days.
 Make groove cutting straight
by groove cutting machine.

1
In my working site, there
weren’t reputed
contractor and experience
full subcontractor.
I informed project manager.
Then he changed them and also
employed new contractor and
subcontractor.
0
2
Contractor didn’t
maintained proper work
schedule.
I regularly communicated with
them and increased observation.
0
3
So many unskilled mason
and labour were in my
construction site.
So, I have tried to handle
unskilled labour and mason and
sometime trained them.
38
SL. Problem Identified Suggestion
04 Building project neighbor
side there were no proper
safety of during construction
time.
I used Hessian cloth with
bamboo bracing to project
neighbor side, from the brick
bats, plaster mortar etc.
05 Suppliers didn’t supply
good quality sand, during
plastering work.
I have informed to the top
management and they
supplied good quality sand.
39
Conclusion
 Durability of a building depend mainly on proper construction process and
proper use of materials.
 I have supervised slab work, brick work, plaster work, sanitary & plumbing
work etc.
 After supervision of my construction site, I have learned a lot about
theoretical background and achieve practical experience. It seems to me
that the practical knowledge is essential to be an efficient engineer.
40
Recommendation
 Standard quality of material should be ensured first
 Leakage into joint of formwork should not allowed
 Unclean reinforcement should not used
 During casting vibrator should be straight instead of inclined
 Before casting vertical and horizontal level should be checked for all
formwork
 Every day before closing of works, the site should be cleaned
