Playing computer games excessively can lead to negative effects. It can cause social isolation as people spend more time playing games online than socializing in real life, hindering the development of social skills. Too much time playing games can also disrupt academic achievement as students are distracted and tired from long gaming sessions. Prolonged sedentary screen time is linked to health issues like obesity, and lack of sleep from late night gaming may cause serious brain damage. Excessive computer use can additionally strain eyes and potentially cause vision or hearing problems with prolonged exposure. Violent games may also desensitize players to aggression over time. Overall, unregulated game playing should be addressed, as it can contribute to long-term health and social

The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202

1. The Effect from Over Playing Computer Games
Living in the 21st century, the percentage of people especially younger
audience doing outdoor activities like playing football in the field or jogging in the
park has been declining over the years with more people interested in playing
computer games. With the vast improvement of technology, video games are
becoming more realistic than ever before compare to the games produced 30 years
ago. Video games industry like Ubisoft knows how to influence their audience with
their products like HD Graphic quality games. Even though video games have some
positive impact to the society, it can also cause addiction to the person which can
bring a bad effect for playing too long.
Beating the game (GoDaddy, July 27, 2012) is one of the causes. Every
player who started playing their games have the desire to beat the game as for self
satisfaction. For them, this has proved that they have reached their ultimate goal.
Even more, today’s game like The Last of Us is one of the best games that has a
wonderful stories. A good story plus great gameplay makes the desire to beat the
game even more and it’s hard to know when to stop playing. Furthermore, a game
like Aion is an Online role-playing games (GoDaddy, July 27 2012) that requires the
internet to play. This is the type of games where players can connect with other
players to play with in vast number. It’s an open world game where players are able
to chat, make friends or (GoDaddy, July 27 2012) in extreme cases, finding a dating
partner. In addition, it also allows them to create their own character avatar
according to their preference. As you levelling up your character from level 1 to max
level, you will have an emotional attachment with your own character as you play it.
2. Additionally, players sometimes will spend hours in games to get the best items,
gear and even trying to get rank 1 title for their character.
As a consequence, it has brought several of bad effect to the person. It is
understandable that it makes the person to be social isolated (GoDaddy, July 27
2012) as you spend more time playing games rather than socialize with your friends
that you recognise instead of your friends that you met in online games. Hence, you
won’t develop an effective social skill, which will hinder your ability to develop and
maintain healthy relationships with others whether in university or any other places.
Another example, long hours of playing computer games can disrupt your academic
achievement (ENOM, Inc., Oct 16, 2014) as you were preoccupied with video
games instead of studying. Other than that, exhausted from hours of playing
computer games will result in failing to study at your optimum level as you lost the
ability to think clearly. Moreover, you will have higher chances of getting health
problem (ENOM, Inc., Oct 16, 2014) like obesity since you were sitting in front of
your computer the whole day without exercising. In addition, lack of sleep result from
over playing computer games the whole day can cause a serious brain damage. In
addition, you will lost the ability to concentrate on what you were doing and risking
your life and other people’s life if you are driving on the road.
In addition, there’s a chances of losing your eyesight (GoDaddy, July 27,
2012) from over exposure from looking at the computer screen for too long. Hence,
by looking at the computer screen for hours, it can strain your eyes which can
worsen your eye vision forcing you the need to wear glasses. Other than that, you
are risking of hearing loss as well. Long term of using headphones or ear buds can
cause your hearing lost over time (GoDaddy, July 27, 2012). Furthermore, there’s a
risk of aggressive thought, feelings and behaviours build on to the person for playing
3. hours of violent games. Addicted players can be desensitised to violence from
playing games that features violent contents like swearing, rape, murdering and so
on.
In conclusion, everyone especially children needs to control their game
addiction from over playing computer games. Long term of playing computer games
can lead to lots of health related problems like stroke and heart problem which can
cause death. Hence, it is essential that this issue should be taken seriously by every
parents and the government as well as any related parties to combat and find an
effective solution to this problem.
