The document summarizes key aspects of film magazine covers. It notes that covers typically feature either a single main character or group shot from the featured film. The main cover image aims to hint at the plot while focusing on the film over individual characters. Famous actors are also featured to draw attention. The film title masthead is always the largest text to emphasize its importance. While the masthead style may change to reference the film, the font, size, and layout remain consistent for brand recognition. Additional information inside is advertised through bright puffs and sell lines located on the outer thirds of the cover.

Each technological age has been marked by a shift in how the industrial platform enables companies to rethink their business processes and create wealth. In the talk I argue that we are limiting our view of what this next industrial/digital age can offer because of how we read, measure and through that perceive the world (how we cherry pick data). Companies are locked in metrics and quantitative measures, data that can fit into a spreadsheet. And by that they see the digital transformation merely as an efficiency tool to the fossil fuel age. But we need to stretch further…
1. All of the magazines that I have looked at have been
different depending on the featured film.
Most of the magazines I have looked at have used
either a single main character or a group photo of
characters from the featured film. In most of the
magazine is have looked at the images are in medium
close up, focusing more on a single character. They are
also placed in the centre third of the magazine. The
main cover image shows the characters in the same
way they appear in the film. This hints to the plot of
the film and helps to focus more on the film rather
than the main character.
Very famous actors are used on the cover of the
magazines as not only are they the main characters
but because people may be more drawn to a magazine
that features an actor they like and know.
2. I have also noticed that the film mastheads are always the
largest font on the magazine page, giving it the most
importance text on the page and also making it clear that it
is the title of the magazine. Unlike music magazines, that
position their masthead on the left, film magazines
position their mastheads across the top of the page.
On a lot of magazines, the masthead s altered and effects
are added to suite the featured film. The font type, font
size, tracking and leading are all the exact same on all
magazines so that the masthead is recognisable and it
keeps its identity. However, the colour or maybe effects
like fire can be added so it links to the featured film.
The title of the film is included on the front of the page in
the second largest font emphasising its importance on the
page. The largest is the magazine masthead then the films
title. This makes it clear that this is the title of the featured
film.
3. Puffs are a common convention used
on most magazines. They are used
to advertise things that will be
included within the magazine. They
are usually bright or use bold colours
to stand out. The puff separates
itself from the rest of the magazine.
Another thing I have noticed is that
almost every film magazine included
sell lines. Sell lines gratify the reader
with information of what else will be
featured inside the magazine. These
are usually placed on the left third
or right third of the magazine.
