Node: The Integration Fabric of the FutureAlbert Tsang
Despite the mass adoption of standards such as REST, the need for integration has continued to grow exponentially with explosive growth driven by mobile, SaaS, and now IoT. Integration requires holistic capabilities including flexible scripting, and being able work with disparate data sources and services. NodeJS provides these capabilities not only with a highly concurrent event driven model through its asynchronous roots but speed of development by JavaScript as a dynamic language. NodeJS not only addresses the convergence needs but is also a key driver shaping the change toward full stack solutions needed by the omnichannel devices of tomorrow.
Closing the Gap on Digital Manufacturing
The concurrent engineering required for new product designs between design
engineering and manufacturing engineering has always been a critical
focal point for manufacturers to shorten time-to-market, accelerate time-tovolume,
and minimize cost of production. Today, collaboration between
product design (CAD) and manufacturing processes
(CAM) is a robust process due to tight
integration between CAD and CAM and the emergence
of extended PDM and PLM systems.
However, there has not been a corresponding
level of tight integration between CAD/CAM and
production management. But the benefits of exchanging
information between the product
definition domain and production management are becoming clear as
manufacturers move to a collaborative environment. Two leading PLM
suppliers, EDS and IBM/Dassault, have recently launched new programs
to integrate these disparate domains.
Digital transformation is more than a buzz phrase. Learn how companies are evolving to Cloud, systematically leveraging existing workloads on their current platforms for competitive advantage. This session explores the transition to Cloud using Node.js technologies and unlocking the power of your existing data sets and what you can expect from the Node.js Foundation and community moving forward. See how the ability to start on known and familiar platforms and environments and to maintain a bridge to data on these platforms using new technologies like Node.js can be one of the keys to success of the move to cloud native.
Come learn about the work IBM is doing to ensure to that:
- Node.js is available across platforms and environments
- that key tools and capabilities are available (monitoring, post mortem investigation)
- you can leverage existing datasets in your cloud native applications using the IBM SDK for Node.js is based on the Node.js™ open source project. It provides a compatible solution for IBM Power™, Intel® and z Systems™ products that require Node.js functionality and package management.

Science got really interesting when we broke chemicals down to the atomic level – it drove a new level of understanding and opened up new possibilities. This session will discuss how breaking up traditional engineering deliverables (drawings, for example) into their atomic parts (geometry, BOMs, rev history, etc) can open up some interesting possibilities for optimizing processes. This session takes a practical look at what Dassault means when they talk abut a “data-driven” architecture.

"Impact of front-end architecture on development cost", Viktor TurskyiFwdays
I have heard many times that architecture is not important for the front-end. Also, many times I have seen how developers implement features on the front-end just following the standard rules for a framework and think that this is enough to successfully launch the project, and then the project fails. How to prevent this and what approach to choose? I have launched dozens of complex projects and during the talk we will analyze which approaches have worked for me and which have not.

All these questions and more will be explored as we talk about matching clients’ needs with what your agency offers without pulling teeth or pulling your hair out. Practical tips, and strategies for successful relationship building that leads to closing the deal.
Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.

Search and Society: Reimagining Information Access for Radical FuturesBhaskar Mitra
The field of Information retrieval (IR) is currently undergoing a transformative shift, at least partly due to the emerging applications of generative AI to information access. In this talk, we will deliberate on the sociotechnical implications of generative AI for information access. We will argue that there is both a critical necessity and an exciting opportunity for the IR community to re-center our research agendas on societal needs while dismantling the artificial separation between the work on fairness, accountability, transparency, and ethics in IR and the rest of IR research. Instead of adopting a reactionary strategy of trying to mitigate potential social harms from emerging technologies, the community should aim to proactively set the research agenda for the kinds of systems we should build inspired by diverse explicitly stated sociotechnical imaginaries. The sociotechnical imaginaries that underpin the design and development of information access technologies needs to be explicitly articulated, and we need to develop theories of change in context of these diverse perspectives. Our guiding future imaginaries must be informed by other academic fields, such as democratic theory and critical theory, and should be co-developed with social science scholars, legal scholars, civil rights and social justice activists, and artists, among others.

Kubernetes & AI - Beauty and the Beast !?! @KCD Istanbul 2024Tobias Schneck
As AI technology is pushing into IT I was wondering myself, as an “infrastructure container kubernetes guy”, how get this fancy AI technology get managed from an infrastructure operational view? Is it possible to apply our lovely cloud native principals as well? What benefit’s both technologies could bring to each other?
Let me take this questions and provide you a short journey through existing deployment models and use cases for AI software. On practical examples, we discuss what cloud/on-premise strategy we may need for applying it to our own infrastructure to get it to work from an enterprise perspective. I want to give an overview about infrastructure requirements and technologies, what could be beneficial or limiting your AI use cases in an enterprise environment. An interactive Demo will give you some insides, what approaches I got already working for real.
