The Asmat are an indigenous hunter-gatherer culture living in West Papua, Indonesia. They are one of the last remaining hunter-gatherer cultures in the world. Traditional Asmat culture includes piercing the septum of the nose and wearing feathers on their heads. However, deforestation, colonization and assimilation are negatively impacting their culture, and the modern world is replacing traditional Asmat ways of life.
