The Asmat are an indigenous hunter-gatherer culture living in West Papua, Indonesia, which is located on the western half of a large island north of Australia. They are one of the last remaining hunter-gatherer cultures in the world, though their traditional way of life is being deeply affected by deforestation, colonization, and assimilation into modern society, potentially signaling the end of this culture.
