COMPUTER NETWORKING
Two or more computers linked together so that they
are able to exchange information.
Connection can be wired or wireless.
NETWORK
The network may be :
 Internet
 Intranet
INTERNET
 Global system of interconnected computer networks.
 Consists of millions of private, public, academic, business,
and government networks .
 Linked by a broad array of electronic, wireless, and optical
networking technologies.
 Carries an extensive range of information resources and
services.
INTRANET
A computer network that use internet standards
(HTML,HTTP & TPC/IP protocols) & software.
Accessed only by authorized persons, especially
members or employees of the organization.
The main purpose of an intranet is :
To share company information and computing
resources among employees.
LOCAL AREA NETWORK
A local area network (LAN) is a computer
network that interconnects computers within a
limited area such as a residence, school, laboratory,
university campus or office building.
A LAN can cover an area of few kilometres in radius.
An office, building or a school usually contains a single
LAN.
Some schools may have an independent LAN in each
computer lab.
PERSONAL AREA NETWORK
 A personal area network (PAN) is a network of
communicating devices in the vicinity of an
individual. These devices could include computer,
phone , MP3/MP4 player ,camera , etc.
 A PAN can cover an area of only few meters in radius.
 A PAN is used to transfer files between devices.
A PAN can use wired media (USB cable) or wireless media
(Bluetooth) .
