This document defines and describes several types of computers. It states that a computer is a machine that can be programmed to manipulate symbols and has the key characteristics of responding to instructions, executing programs, and storing and retrieving data. It then defines microcomputers, minicomputers, personal computers, supercomputers, laptops, tablets, software, and hardware. For each type of computer, it provides a brief description of its purpose, size, and capabilities.

3. A computer is a machine that can be programmed
to manipulate symbols. Its principal characteristics
are:
 It responds to a specific set of instructions in a
well-defined manner.
 t can execute a prerecorded list of instructions (a
program).
 It can quickly store and retrieve large amounts
of data.

purpose, cost-effective computer that
is designed to be used by a single end-
user. It is dependent on microprocessor
technology, which allows PC makers to
set the entire central processing unit
(CPU) on a single chip.

 It is the most powerful computers
in terms of performance and data
processing. It has the architecture,
resources and components to
achieve massive computing
power.

 A laptop is a computer designed for
portability. Laptops are usually less
than 3 inches thick, weigh less than 5
pounds and can be powered by a
battery. It is generally more
expensive than desktops and
netbooks.

12. What is Tablet?
A tablet is a wireless touch
screen personal computer
(PC) that is smaller than a
notebook but larger than a
smartphone.
Modern tablets are built with wireless Internet or local area
networks (LAN) and a variety of software applications.

to perform tasks.
 Hardware – a physical devices that make up a
computer system.
