Computer aided engineering (CAE) uses software tools to assist in developing and maintaining software. CAE was introduced in the 1970s to help speed up the software development process by applying engineering principles. CAE is important because it allows for rapid software development to meet changing market demands and release new products more quickly. However, software developed without CAE can become very complex, difficult to maintain, and fragile. CAE tools help software developers and include program editors, debuggers, code analyzers, and other support tools.
