Under the  Virginia Plan , states with a larger population would have more control over a strong national government. Under  The New Jersey Plan , each state would have equal representation in Congress Connecticut Compromise-  It was eventually decided to have a  bi-cameral  legislature (Congress), with two houses: one based on population (House of Representatives) and one with equal representation for each state (Senate).
Southern states wanted slaves to be counted in their overall population to determine how many representatives each state would get in the House of Representatives. Southern states did not want slaves to count when it came to paying taxes on them Northern states did not want slaves to count for representation, but did want them to count for taxes. 3/5 Compromise-  It was decided that 3/5 of all slaves would be counted for both representative and tax purposes.
Northern states wanted the national government to control trade with other nations so that Congress could ban the slave trade Southern states feared that national control of trade would hurt them and interfere with the profitable slave trade. Commerce and Slave Trade Compromise-  It was decided that Congress could not ban the slave trade until 1808. Congress was given the power to regulate interstate trade, but could not impose export taxes

Some thought a presidential term should be longer. Others thought a long term would give too much power to a single person Delegates decided to set the presidential term at four years.
