The objectives of the observation are as follows :
 To give the pupil teacher a chance to observe the teaching of the subjects to various
classes through various teaching methods.
 It introduces the pupil-teacher to an actual workplace and extends the exposure to a
live classroom.
 It enables the critical faculty of the pupil-teacher.
 Before the actual teaching practice by the pupil-teacher, they get an opportunity to
warm up to the working of the place.
 Various aspects of a classroom-teaching are observed and the disparity between the
theoretical knowledge and the practical application becomes apparent.
With the above mentioned objectives, the following pointers were considered during
observation: The points on the basis of which the observation was to be made were the
following:-
1.) Personality of teacher
 Appearance
 Voice
 Communication skill
2.) Blackboard management
 Blackboard entry
 Handwriting
 Sequence
3.) Introduction

 Use of teaching learning material
 Student initiative in learning
 Grouping of children
 Strategy of questioning
 Level of questions
 Methodology of assessment

1-Observation of English Class
With the growing demand and pragmatism of the language ‘English’, worldwide, it had
become a vital component of the National Curriculum (NC).Great demands are made of
teachers at secondary schools to teach complex linguistic and grammatical concepts, as laid
down in the NC. To meet this globalised demand, the challenges remain active for both
teachers and students. Teachers have a very limited period of time to plan and organize
lessons, mark assessments, and so forth.Pupils on the other hand, at secondary schools also
have difficulties with learning complex grammatical concepts. Typically invented examples
are used in the tradition of grammar teaching. These examples are often simple but
unrealistic. They find these difficult to relate to real linguistic settings and almost impossible
to apply to their own language production.Hence, this task should certainly be done by a well
qualified and experienced teacher. Consequently an English teacher should always aim to:
1. Translate our rich corpus resources into effective English language teaching tools and
curriculum materials for teachers to use in the classroom;
2. Provide pupils with high-quality web-based learning materials in both classroom and self-
directed modes; and
3. Provide quality Continuous Professional Development (CPD) resources to enable teachers
to make the most of the resource.
2-Observation Of The Social Studies Class
6
Social studies are a subject that is closely related to the life of students. An 8th class
student understands what government is, what history is, why we need to know about
history and also the significance of geography as a subject. Students in general keep
hearing of landslides, elections and they know of historical monuments like the TajMahal,
Red Fort, etc. for this rationale, social studies is about our regular life, it is both past and
present and aims at establishing a healthy future for both, individuals and society at large.
It isgenerally seen that students often find subjects like history and civics, a little
monotonous and at times full of boredom. But this can be proved beyond a certain doubt
that a teacher’s own knowledge, his/her personality and his/her pedagogy of teaching also
plays a considerable role in how effective will the class be and how much interest
students are likely to take in their respective subjects. For this reason, it becomes all the
more necessary for a social studies teacher to be full of zeal to make the subject
interesting therefore establishing an effective rapport with the students. The social studies
teachers in KMS, have been assigned with their respective subjects like political science,
history and geography and economics at grade 10th. However, the clubbing is such that
civics and history are generally assigned to the same teacher, for this reason it became
relatively convenient for the observer to take a holistic view of the social studies lesson.
Personality of teacher:Very decently dressed up and attractive looking
this political science and history teacher was well greeted as she entered the classroom.
This kind of a personality was highly appealing though I felt that it might also be
distractive, for both girls and boys. She is a soft spoken, yet loud enough instructor. Most
students seem to be attentive, leaving aside the students who generally did not
acknowledge her presence in the classroom. She had individual conversation with the
students along with the entire class at large, for which she made appropriate voice
modulations and was effectively audible to the back benches as well. Her communication
skills were very apt, she maintained a considerable decorum in the classroom, which was
comparatively not done by many other teachers.
THANKS TO ALL
