1.Positive Degree
• This is the basic form of the adverb.
• There is NO COMPARISON.
Example: The boy runs fast!
-loud -soon
-fast -quick
-slow -hard
-high -tight
2. Comparative Degree
• Is used when comparing two actions.
• We add suffix er to the word.
• More or less is used when the suffix er is not needed.
Example: The boy runs faster than Ericka.
loud-louder soon-sooner
fast- faster quick- quicker
Slow- slower hard- harder
high- higher tight- tighter
• We add more or less to the adverb ends with ‘ly’ and with
2 or more syllables
Example: This dress is more comfortable to wear than
t-shirt.
• comfortable – more/less comfortable
• interesting- more/less interesting
• Widely- more/less widely
• freely- more/less freely
• gently- more/less gently
3. Superlative Degree
• Is used when comparing three or more actions.
• we add est to the word.
• Most or least is used when the suffix est is not needed.
Example: Paul runs fastest of them all.
