Comparative adjectives are used to compare two things and are formed in one of two ways: short adjectives add "-er" while long adjectives use "more". Exceptions exist for adjectives ending in -e, consonant-vowel-consonant, and -y. Additionally, the adjectives good, bad, and far have irregular comparative forms of better, worse, and farther/further respectively.

• We can use comparative
adjectives when talking about
two things (not three or more
things).
- Mountains are bigger than hills.

3. Formation of Comparative Adjectives
• There are two ways to make or to "form" a
comparative adjective:
• Short adjectives: add "-er“
Fast: Faster
Old: Older
• Long adjectives: use "more“
Expensive: More expensive
Beautiful: More Beautiful

4. Rules!
• If the adjective ends in -e, just add –r.
Late : Later
• If the adjective ends in consonant, vowel,
consonant, double the last consonant.
Big: Bigger
• if the adjective ends in -y, change the y to i.
Happy: Happier

5. Exception: The following adjectives
have irregular forms:
- Good → better
- Bad → worse
- Far → farther/further
