Goodwill Industries provides career services and training opportunities to help people find employment. They serve a diverse demographic including youth, seniors, veterans, people with disabilities, those with criminal backgrounds, and others with specialized needs. Services include employment development and training, education programs, technology training, and assistance with transportation and childcare. Individual programs have specific goals like certifications in forklifting, highway construction, custodial work, and healthcare roles. Goodwill believes in giving everyone a second chance to get back on track through honest and training.

2. Participation Requirements
•At Goodwill everyone can participate in their career services.
•Although they specialize in helping out people that have disabilities,
a criminal background, and/or people who are down on their luck.
•For participation in career services a person needs to follow steps
for employment through the training programs and attend classes
specialized for finding and maintaining a job within the programs.
•Each person needs to attend classes based on the career field that
they have chosen and that is usually a commitment of 12 weeks
depending on the career chosen.

3. Frequency And Availability Of Learning
Opportunities
•Online Classes- for convenience purposes. On demand, self paced
lesson are available for free in Math, Reading, Technology, Microsoft
Office, Work and Career, and Everyday Life.
•In person training – for those that want face-to-face interaction. The
availability is slim. You would have to see if those services are
offered, which depends on your location.
•-for Spanish speaking individuals. A separate website was created to
help individuals that do not speak Spanish to have the opportunity
to learn as well.

4. Demographic Served:
Goodwill Industries aims to serve the community at-large by meeting the occupational needs of all individual who have been
disenfranchised in some form. These individuals are from diverse backgrounds:
•Youth- It provides employment opportunities for youth and teens who are seeking specific training or skills. In addition, Goodwill
provides opportunities to youth and teens who have made some less than favorable choices at one point of their lives.
•Seniors- Through the Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP), older workers are able to find employment or
start a second career through training opportunities at Goodwill. Goodwill recognize that many of the seniors have extensive work
experiences that are need in the Goodwill Organization.
•Veterans- Although Goodwill has recognized the need to support veterans in the area of employment opportunities, there has
been a new initiative designed for women veterans. This initiative has been initiated by the First Lady of the United States, Michelle
Obama and Dr. Jill Biden, the wife of the Vice President of the United States of America.
•People with Disabilities- Persons with various types of disabilities can find comfort and support at Goodwill Industries through
training and employment opportunities.
•Criminal Backgrounds- Individuals that have had encounters with the judicial system and have found themselves of the other side
of the law have also discovered opportunities at Goodwill that allow for a fresh start in life.
•Other Specialized Needs- this category can consists of immigrant with limited skills and/ or limited English speakers.

•Each program offered through Goodwill of Georgia has certain requirements that help a person achieve their career goal.
•A few of the programs and their goals are
•Forklift Training
•The Forklift training program prepares you for employment in the materials handling/storage/warehouse industry.
•Highway Construction
•This program caters to women in Highway construction and after the program the graduate received placement assistance and earn at least one professional certification in
highway construction.
•Floor Tech/ Custodial
•Through this program people are trained and earn a certification there is also placement assistance.
•Healthcare Transitions
•The goals of this program is to train a person in various roles within a health care setting.
•Maintenance Technician
•Goals if this program is to obtain a certificate with EPA/HVAC &R410, pool operations and OSHA

9. Conclusion
Goodwill offers a variety of services to people no matter
where you are in life. If you have just graduated from high
school, a college graduate, elderly, or disabled, Goodwill has
programs and services that cater to all. There are a variety
of programs offered to meet the needs of the community. If
time is not always on your side they offer free, on demand
training on their website. All you have to do is sign up, and
again, it FREE! Taking advantage of these opportunities
allows the student to be at an advantage personally and
professionally.
