3. Why go on a Safari?
“We are the only species with the power to destroy the
earth - and also the capacity to protect it.”
- Dalai Lama.
Air that is difficult to breathe, water that is
dangerous to drink, trash, and only a grey
landscape around.
To tackle such problems, communities
themselves need to take an active role in
finding solutions.
But where can solutions be found?

4. Safari solutions
After billions of years of R&D, nature has
discovered the secrets of sustainability.
A wetland is a perfect self-sustaining
wastewater treatment plant, a bed of moss
is the earth’s most advanced air purifying
machine, and microalgae are superb
energy generation stations.
If we can uncover and apply such secrets
(Nature-based Solutions) in our
communities, we could solve many of
todays’ challenges!

6. Why should you take your
community on a Safari?
A Safari is a great way to unite a local community
around the process of identifying problems and co-
creating solutions to them, in a structured,
innovative, fun and educational way.

7. • UNDP Accelerator Lab Ukraine developed and tested the
concept of the Community Safari.
• The Safari methodology, materials and tools are clearly
described and documented in an open-source Toolkit,
giving you the opportunity to run a Safari of your own.
• The Safari Toolkit is free and available on request.
• The toolkit is easy to use – print it – cut it out – and go
on a Safari!

the Safari among your colleagues, partners and

practices for organizing a Safari, and brainstorming
ideas

organization prepare for the event
• Solutions Card Pack: to be used by participants
during the brainstorming session
• Digital Map: instructions on how to create your
Safari map
