Vidyanagar Nature Club
Sheltered in a nondescript bylane of one of Gujarat’s many small towns is an organisation that has started a revolution of sorts in the towns bordering it, and slowly but resolutely spreading its message to cities far beyond it, across the length and breadth of India.
Vidyanagar Nature Club (VNC) one of the country’s most active NGOs, is deeply involved in the areas of environment education, awareness and protection. Established in 1988, the organisation is based in the flourishing Anand district.
VNC is a registered public charitable trust and an accredited NGO by Global Environment Facility (GEF) Washington DC, USA. The organisation is a member of SAYEN (South Asia Youth & Environment Network) which is supported by UNEP (United Nations Environment Program) and a special NGO member with Global Environmental Action’s Virtual Globe, Japan. Vidyanagar Nature Club is registered with Japan’s Environmental Educational Forum (JEEF) and Environmental Grant Maker’s Association (EGA).

How can we make optimum use of resources?
We could say that the key to the sustainability of any society (or indeed any design) is simply to make optimum use of resources - so this is a very important subject to clarify for ourselves as designers. In this class we will explore how often, instead of using rational criteria for appropriateness when choosing resources (materials, fuels or technologies), like energy trade-off, we tend to use subjective & superficial criteria, like appearance, fashion & emotional attachments. This class is about how we can learn to make wiser judgements & choices in these matters.
This class provides a solid introduction of the science & technology of the home, covering bio-climactic principles as well as choice of materials, location & design context. But we also question the great emphasis which is put on more & larger construction by the alternative movement these days. BioConstruction or EcoBuilding are terms which technically mean 'construction which promotes life' or 'ecological building', not something which is centered - yet again - on consumerist values: putting human whims & comfort above all else. How or when are these 'bio' & 'construction' terms used in contradictory ways? Do we need to coin a new 'perma-construction' term?

Environmental Education is facing new challenges. Despite significant achievements, from institutional agencies and others, it must be strengthened and project its expansion, thereby eliminating the slow bureaucratic aspects, creating new strategies of action, further opening of the social agencies and pursuing broader international commitments. Deepening in Environmental Education is the surest path to planetary transformation and survival of the human race.

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.
Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.
