June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

As we’ve expanded our Community Online Academy (COA), we’ve been overwhelmed by the positive feedback and questions on
how to share with family, friends and colleagues. With the excitement has come some questions. We are sharing openly the origins
of COA, answering common questions such as why are we doing this, who are these instructors, etc. In this booklet, we will cover:

3. Community Online Academy is a full day of free courses for kids +
adults focused on fitness, learning, and fun lead by world renowned
instructors.
You and your family have access to Perks at Work’s Community Online

4. In these uncertain times, these classes not only
were a lovely way to lighten up our day but also to
get us moving. Mitchell’s energy, smiles and
positive attitude was the highlight of my Thursday.
Truly thankful for a good time. If you could relay
the info would be great. I think he ought to know
his 45 minutes are making a difference. The girls
work out was superb too. My 8 year old was so
pumped. She kept asking when the next class was.
I have already signed up for next week and literally
forced two other colleagues to sign up as well.
Thank you for making an impact. Blessings.
Attendee Highlights
This is really, really nice! Whoever thought of this
deserves a bonus. It's not easy to get movement in
when you work from home. You can't beat a mid-
day workout. I was away from my desk for less
than an hour and felt much more focused for the
afternoon. I hope TR will consider maintaining this
after stay at home orders are lifted.
“
Thank you so much. This was such a welcome
break from the really difficult balance between
home and school. My son was so happy and
excited about the new things he learned. Thank
you again and stay safe.
“
My 5-year-old daughter just finished your class
and LOVED it… Well organized, fun, kept my
daughter’s attention and YoYio is so patient. I
loved the music too!
“
This week, my daughter insisted that I join the
dance class and we had a great time learning
together. YoYio gave easy to follow directions and
was very patient with the children attending the
class. My daughter will be performing her new
moves for the family this evening!
“
We were able to attend two classes yesterday and
my son LOVED them. I actually saw how focused
he was on the math class and the hip hop dance
classed.. he loved. He wanted to do it again today.
I have signed him up for sessions next week.
Thank you so much for sharing. This was a
wonderful experience!
“
This was absolutely amazing for parents who are
working. I could set the kids up on another device
next to me so I could be aware of what was going
on, but I didn't have to stop working during the
class at all because the instructors were so
engaged and well prepared. Thirty minutes is a
great amount of time and breaking up the kids
activities through the day gave them and me
something to look forward to. This was a fantastic
experience! Thank you!
“
“
Macky's course was great! Age appropriate for a
broad audience and he made sure to acknowledge
participants by name to help foster engagement. I
loved that it was interactive yet "quiet" so I could
work while my son participated. 5 stars !!
“
5. Community Online Academy (Origins)
LEADERSHIP ACADEMY
We have been running Leadership Academies for
the last 6+ years, and culture tours for over 10 years.
This is a link here that has more detail:
https://www.nextjump.com/academy/. We have
had over 2,000 leaders attend our Leadership
Academies – senior leaders ranging from military
service, CIA, Olympic and sport teams, education,
not profits, and F500. Many of these leaders have
stayed connected and we are finding they are asking
to contribute sharing their expertise in the COA - so
much so that we are going to be tapping into them
as a major source of adult instructors. One example
is Michael C Hoppner, teaching the intro to remote
communications (head of communications for
Andrew Yang).
LITTLE JUMPERS PROGRAMS
Starting 2 years ago, we built out an after-
school program and summer camp program
for Next Jumper’s children – “Little Jumpers”
as we call them. As we built this out, we
leveraged the connections we had from
Leadership Academies and culture tours and
created an elite team of teachers.
POST COVID
We saw a significant need in our own staff and have
heard resounding from so many other employees and
organizations: in many cases you have 2 parents
working full-time from
home while trying to teach multiple children/multiple
grades… while managing the news/fear/concerns for
other loved ones and still trying to maintain our own
health/immune systems. Rather than having each
family, each company navigate how to do this, we
believe the Next Jump team can leverage what has
already been setup in our community and share it
virtually. There will be some pain points as we are
getting started but expect it to continually improve
with an intention to run them weekly on Thursdays.
Our intent is to provide enrichment for both adults
and kids, every Thursday.
We created COA very quickly (our first full week of working from home in March 2020) for our staff and then opened to our Academy alumni and
based on need/interest, it’s rapidly expanded as we see growing need and interest from world renowned teachers. This article written by our Co-
Founder has more context on COA.
COA Coronitas – our weekly recognition time and happy hour
6. Community Online Tracks
There are two tracks – a KIDS track, and an Adult track (which has two parts: fitness
and Learning).
Based on the level of interest, we will be expanding quickly. Our intentions are to build
out to 12 hours of classes (starting this week), 100 classes per hour, and up to 1000
attendees per class. As noted above, we will be tapping into the leaders from our
Academy alumni expertise, but also our clients have expertise.
8. Meet the Instructors
These instructors will be teaching each week. There will be additional VIP instructors that rotate in and out. More instructors and full bios can be

12. Common Questions
Frequently asked questions
Our capacity is increasing, but we are currently
running 50 classes between 300-1,000
attendees per class. We have a reservation
system and active waitlist that will allow
employees in real time to gain access once
spots open up.
We are working to have 100 classes an hour, 12
hours a day which will allow for 1.2 million
attendees a day.
What is the capacity for COA? Will it be
able to accommodate my organization?
Employees can visit our FAQ page, our Getting
Started Guide, and they can also reach out to
our COA Help Desk that is actively monitored.
Where can employees go if they have
questions on COA?
Employees can access through their Perks at
Work account. There are multiple links to COA
on the homepage and in the navigation bar. If
you’d like to share a link, you can share:
https://www.perksatwork.com/#perksatworkC
OA.
Friends and family can take part in CO, they just
needed to be invited to Perks at Work by the
employee. Employees can invite the family
member or friend through the Perks at Work
Invite Family feature.
How do employees access, and can they
invite family and friends to join?
The safety and security of our Perks at Work
Community during COA’s is our number one
priority. A few of the measures we have taken
are below:
1) In addition to the instructor, each session is
hosted by a trained moderator. In large classes,
there may be both a host and a separate
moderator. This host/moderator is continually
monitoring the session, and has the ability to
turn of cameras, mute microphones, and kick
out a participant or lock a room if needed.
2) Participants of the meeting cannot share
their screens without authorized permission
from the host.
3) We have very clear rules for each of our
sessions—Participants microphones are muted,
and their video is on. Anyone who is disruptive
or does not follow the rules will be removed
from the meeting.
How are these sessions being secured?
The instructors vary by class but are comprised
of top teachers in childhood education, leaders
of F1000 and non-profit, Department of
Defense, and Department of Education. Fitness
instructors are certified trainers and often have
their own business or studio.
How are the instructors vetted?
13. Common Questions
Frequently asked questions
Yes, past classes can be found on the class page

team leads to share COA. Here you will find
email templates, flyers, intranet language and
more.
How can I share COA with my
organization?
14. Security
The safety and security of our Perks at Work Community during COA’s is our number one priority. A few of the measures we have taken are below:
Moderators
Each class is moderated by a trained moderator who is actively looking at all
participants videos, names and chats. Each moderator has the ability to turn off chat,
video, mute, and remove a disruptive participant.
Screen Sharing
Screen sharing ability is automatically turned off for every
participant except the moderator and hosts/instructor.

When participants join, they are automatically muted. If they need to talk to
participate in class, the moderator will allow them to unmute, but always
maintains the ability to mute all mics instantly.
Chat
Chat may be used for some classes, but will be monitored throughout the class.
For all kids classes, public chat is disabled, and kids/parents can only chat the
moderator directly with questions.
Video
We ask that participants turn their video on so that we can see who has joined.
Moderators have the ability to turn off video for any disruptive participants
Lock Meeting
If for any reason, a disruptive participant is removed from a meeting, the
moderator can lock them out as well as any future participants from joining.
15. Accessing Zoom
Instructions to access Zoom without downloading it on your device
We understand some organizations are not allowed to download new applications (such as Zoom) to their work computers. Below are a few ways
you can still take part in COA.
When launching a Zoom meeting invitation link, please do not install the Zoom
software (you may be prompted twice). Access the meeting through the link
provided on your screen called “start from your browser”.
You can also access Perks at Work and COA classes via a personal device if that
is preferable.
Watch the class later
Almost all COA classes are recorded (similar to TEDTalks), so the instructor and
any deck or media they shared can be accessed after the class on
https://edu.perksatwork.com/. Just search for the class and you will be able to
see all past class recordings, any applicable decks or media, and feedback on
the class.
