6 to 8 answers checked “yes” indicate you have good communication, but it could 
improve. Remember that the work environment is characterized by peace and the assurance of 
achieving results. 
Questions for reflection:
1. What positive behaviors could you identify in the way you communicate?
I think I’m always behaving sincere to listening from people. Even if I am not in the same
page as the people I’m talking with. I would show my respect to hear what is the opinion
from others.
2. What behaviors of yours do you feel need improving?
Sometimes, I would speak in the way it’s more subtle. However, sometimes it cause my
opinion can’t be express clear and direct. That part of the error I often make when I talk
to my supervisors and coworkers. Therefore I think I should look for the balance between
respectful and assertive.
3. How do you think your way of communicating affects people and results?
I think the way I communicate with people the may feel being respect. However,
sometimes people may misunderstand what I try to express. With the ambiguous way to
speak, it may cause our work inefficient.
4. What factors do you think influence the way you communicate with others?
First, I think it may cause from my asian cultural background. Because in Taiwan, we
think speaking subtly it’s more polite. Second, my family education may also cause this
outcome. Because my parents always tell me if I speak too direct to people it’s being
rude to others.
5. What conclusions can you make based on these observations that will allow you
to improve your communication as a leader, both in the work environment and in
your personal environment?
In my opinion, I think I should look for the balance in between respect and assertiveness.
I should learn how to speak direct and clear but in respect. Especially, if I’m a leader, I
should deliver tasks to my coworkers clearly. Since, ambiguous order may cause
inefficient and bad performance. In the personal environment I also need to speak more
clear. Because if wrong misunderstanding may lead unnecessary arguments between
people.
Three specific actions:
I think I should keep the respectfully way to speak with people, however, I need to try to speak
more assertive as well. Not only that I should always check the feedback from people I talk. I
need to make sure if people understand and receive the correct idea from me.
