Essential HTML & CSS Tags for Formatting Content
1. Common HTML & CSS Tags For Content
When coding a web page and/or blog, there are HTML/XHTML/CSS tags you will use
on a regular basis.
Before we get to that What is HTML? HTML stands for Hyper Text Markup Language.
And then there’s XHTML. XHTML stands for EXtensible HyperText Markup Language.
Let’s start with HTML/XHTML tags.
FORMATTING TEXT TAGS:
Headings
<h1>place very important header text here</h1>
<h2>place sub-header text here (smaller in size)</h2>
<h3>place sub-sub-header text here (smaller in size)</h3>
<h4>place sub-sub-sub-header text here (smaller in size)</h4>
Note: Always put in a <h1></h1> tag on your web pages this is “Best Practice” for SEO.
Paragraph
<p>place paragraph text here</p>
Bold
<strong>this makes your text bold</strong>
Note: The deprecated Bold Tag is <b></b> (but this is still use in some blog when enter
in HTML Window).
Italic
<em>this makes your text italic</em>
Note: The deprecated Italic Tag is <i></i> (but this is still use in some blog when enter in
HTML Window).
Break
<br />
Use 1 for one line break, use 2 for two line breaks or more in-between paragraphs,
images and/or any other elements you want to have a break in-between.
Note: The Break Tag should be use sparingly or some times not at all. It is “Best
Practice” to use the <p></p> tags for paragraph breaks and/or use CSS Spacing for
adding space between elements on your page. This keeps your code looking clean and it
is easier to find your paragraphs if you want to make changes later on. The deprecated

IMAGE TAGS:

Practice” is to use External Styles Sheets, separating Presentation from Code.
FORMATTING TEXT WITH CSS STYLE TAGS:
Bold

Italic
<p style=”font-style:italic;”>Italicize a word and/or text</p>
Font Size
<p style=”font-size:14px;”>Text size</p>
Font Family
<p style=”font-family:”Times New Roman”, Georgia, Serif;”>Set the Font Family of
your text</p>

Centering HTML Element

and images as well</p>
