2. Charles Darwin, The Father Of Evolution
Layden Butler
Mrs.Warrem
Bio I dual credit
14 December 2015
Evolution
Charles Darwin, the father of evolution, wisely stated, It is not the strongest of the species that
survive, nor the most intelligent, but the one most responsive to change. This statement directly
reflects my opinion on the theory of evolution and that of Charles Darwin. Our species has evolved
over time and adapted to the conditions that faced us. Charles Darwin, his background and
discoveries, along with the evolution of human beings over time prove with great detail just how
necessary and realistic evolution is. In most cases, the argument about evolution brings up one s
religious values. However, the clear science behind the many theories of evolution outweighs and
all religious arguments about this topic. Humans, and many other species, have distinct connections
to the organisms of our past and will continue to change in order to for the future of our civilization.
Darwin s Background
To start off, Darwin s childhood and background are much different than what may be expected.
Charles Darwin was born on the 12th of February, 1809. Darwin s birthplace was is Shrewsbury,
England to Robert and Susannah Darwin. His grandfather, Erasmus Darwin, was very interested in
the ideas of evolution and was well know during that time. Even though Charles never met
Erasmus, he shared alot of the same interests. He was the fifth child in his family, and his parents
were well off in the terms of money during

5. Casey At The Bat Figurative Language
Casey at the Bat: A Ballad of the Republic Sung in 1888 is a dramatic narrative poem by Ernest
Lawrence Thayer. Casey at the Bat is a ballad of thirteen stanzas documenting a baseball game
between an unnamed opponent and Mudville. The game is coming to an end and Mudville is
losing four to two and the upcoming hitters are especially bad. By a miracle the batters reach base
and bring the best player to bat. The win is just out of reach when Casey strikes out and loses them
the game. Thayer uses figurative language, characterization, and choice of speaker to show the
theme of men and masculinity. By giving Casey all the qualities of a super masculine sports hero,
and then having him fail, Thayer makes us question whether or not those traits truly lead to success.

Throughout the whole poem Casey is looked at as the crowds one and only savior but when he
receives his first strike the stands are described as black with people (33), as well as describing
the roar of the crowd as the beating of the storm waves on a stern and distant shore. (34) These
quotes both give the crowd a violent feel with the use of symbolism. The crowds should be full
of hope and optimism when Casey comes to bat however they give a sense of doom and gloom
with Thayer s choice of diction. He uses words like rumbled, knocked, recoiled, and rattled. It is
almost like the fans are realizing that Casey s athletic abilities are not as stable as they once thought

6. Diagnosis Of Benign Scrotal Surgical Specimens
Abstract
Purpose: We recently demonstrated that pathologic analysis of benign scrotal surgical specimens
may be unnecessarily increasing costs of patient care. Adult circumcision specimens may also
routinely be sent for pathological analysis even when penile cancer is not suspected, increasing
costs with little benefit. To assess the utility of foreskinpathology analysis, we evaluated the
outcomes and the costs of this practice in patients where penile cancer was not suspected.
Materials and Methods: All adult patients who underwent circumcision between January 2000 and
August 2013 at a single institution were evaluated by retrospective chart review. Cases of
suspected penile cancer (n=6) were excluded. We identified cases where foreskin specimens were
sent for pathological analysis and reviewed pathology reports. Our Department of Pathology
estimated the cost for evaluation of specimens at $311 per case.
Results: A total of 147 circumcisions were performed in patients with no suspicious findings.
Pathologic analysis was obtained in 69% (101/147) of the cases. Inflammation (58%) was the most
common finding. One unsuspected instance of squamous cell carcinoma (Tis) was identified in a
patient with HIV (1/147=0.7%). The overall cost of pathology analysis in this study was $31,411.
Conclusions: In individuals without predisposing immunodeficiency and where cancer was not
suspected, we found that pathology analysis of circumcision specimens identified no additional

7. Compare and Contrast the Westminster Political System in...
A comparison of political systems is done to deepen our understanding of our own institutions, as
well as to expand our awareness and views on other political alternatives. But what is a political
system. David Easton (A System Analysis of Political Life, 1965) defined a political system as that
behavior or set of interactions through which authoritative allocations are made and implemented
for society . Simply put it s a set of institutions and agencies that implement goals of a society. The
Westminster systemderives its name from the Palace of Westminster, the home of the British House
of Parliament. It is a adversarial two party system that utilizes a single member plurality system.

House of Commons through oral and written questions and policy debates. The Peers expertise
allows them to deal with broad issues related to science, economy, and the constitution.
The House of Commons
The House of Commons is made up of 650 Members of Parliament (MPs), all of whom are
elected by voters to represent them and their interests. No special training or background is
necessary to become an MP, though any person running for a seat in the House of Commons must
be at least 21 years old.
The Executive
The executive branch consists of the head of state, the head of Government known as the Prime
Minister and the Cabinet. The Cabinet is composed of approximately 20 Members who are chosen
by the Prime Minister from the House of Commons. It is this element that creates a fusion of
power of the legislative and the executive. The functions of the Cabinet are to initiate and decide
on policy, the supreme control of government and the co ordination of government departments.
The exercise of these functions is vitally affected since Cabinet depends upon majority support in
the House of Commons. Majority governments based on a single party are typically stable, as long

8. Collegiate Athletics Vs. Indiana State University Board Of...
Collegiate athletics is growing each day and the athletes are becoming faster, stronger, and
quicker each day. As the competition on the field improves, the risk of injury also becomes more
of a possibility. While strength and conditioning coaches have created athletes who are able to
withstand more physical play and can rehab quicker from injury, they have also created monsters
on the playing field and court. As collegiate athletics grows into a multibillion dollar industry, the
players expect to have more benefits available to them, including workers compensation. We have
seen a variety of situations arise recently were players are looking to secure their own safety when
playing such physical games.
In 1976, a football student athlete at Indiana State University suffered an injury that left him as a
quadriplegic. In 1983, the case Rensing v. Indiana State University Board of Trustees was heard by
the Indiana State Supreme Court. The court decided that the Indiana court of appeals incorrectly
concluded that Rensing was an employee under the Workmen s Compensation Act and therefore
Indiana State University was not responsible to provide Rensing with any medical or disability
expenses. It is a requirement of the NCAA for every athlete to carry health insurance and to provide

In 1954, Leo Fender made many prototypes for guitar he was trying to build. Each prototype had a
various specs added or taken from the guitar. In October of the same year, the Fender Stratocaster
went into full production and still is in production to this day. The Fender Stratocaster has become
an iconic guitarused by famous people like Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Buddy Holly, and Ritchie

Fender and Squier both use tremolo style bridges. The difference is that Squier produces guitars
in China. They use a type of metal referred as pop metal. The Chinese collect recycled soda cans
and melt it along with a bit of zinc and steel to make it stronger. They cast a mold of the bridge
and mass produce the bridge. With Fender, the tremolo bridge is made out of steel and heavy
machinery forms the bridge. The tuning machines on the head of the guitar are also same but
very different. With Fender, the rotation ratio is 1:18, which is highly accurate and tunes as it
turns. For Squier, the ratio changes to 1:10, which makes it harder to tune because of the more
rotations. Most importantly, the pickups of the guitars are very different. Guitar pickups are a
device that picks up vibrations from steel or nickel strings using magnets and wounded copper
wire. This creates a magnetic field and when the strings move they disturbs the field and
changes the current passing through the coils of copper wire. This current is then flows out the
output and amplified with an amplifier (2015). With Fender s pickups, they use Alnico slug
magnets and pure copper with their coils. These pickups have a nice, clear, and pure tone and
sound to them. Squier does not do the same. They use pop metal slugs and copper with zinc and
other conductive metals and glue a magnet at the bottom of the pickup and it works the same.
This will also give you a clear tone but it is not so pure sound. They essentially do the same job
but it is cheaper. Also time is a main factor to this. It takes less time to make an Squier Stratocaster
than it is to make a Fender Stratocaster. This means it is easier to get an Squier and cost

Belgian Congo began between 1908 and 1960. It was a Belgian colony in Central Africa and
today it is known as the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The colonization from Belgium
happened mainly because of their first ruler s selfishness and trickery. After what he has done,
Belgium had no choice but to take Congo Free Stateaway from their king, and place it into their
own care. This was much to the benefit of the native people throughout the colonization of Belgian
Congo. Medicine and education were heavily changed to the better while in the other side some of
them were discriminated against and segregated from others because of their color or culture. The
culture of Congo was extremely diverse. They had many different customs to wear at that time until
the era of colonization. After becoming Belgian Congo the country changed radically. It s true that

12. Cinderell A Story Of Sibling Rivalry And Oedipal Conflicts
The story and symbolism of Cinderella is viewed in different kinds of ways. In 1697, the most
popular version of Cinderella was called Cindrillon written by a Frenchman named Charles Perrault.
Many individuals were drawn to Perrault s story due to the elements: the pumpkin being
transformed into a chariot, the fairy godmother, and the glass slipper. Later throughout history,
about 1500 different versions of Cinderellawere being altered by dissimilar cultures. The most
popular story is about a girl that has a magical guardian who helps her overcome how her family
treats her. According to Bruno Bettelheim in his article Cinderella : A Story of Sibling Rivalry
and Oedipal Conflicts, shares Cinderella hopes and her troubles through sibling rivalry and how
she overcame it. On the other hand, a feminist theologian, Madonna Kolbenschlag explains in her
article A Feminist s View of Cinderella that Cinderella displays patterns of feminine socialization
by her feeling worthless and wanting rescue. In the two articles, the tale of Cinderella has the
audience ponder over the topic of sibling rivalry. According to Bettelheim, sibling rivalry can
make a child feel worthless in their home. For example, Cinderella was assigned to due worthless
tasks, hearing her stepmother say nasty views of her. With this in consideration, he says that a child
will soon believe what he is hearing. The thoughts of not having respect, to be free of wickedness,

13. Rafe and Robin in Marlowe’s Doctor Faustus Essay
Rafe and Robin in Marlowe s Doctor Faustus
Rafe and Robin waltz into Christopher Marlowe s The Tragical History of D. Faustus in scene four
and vanish three scenes later. Although they may appear trivial and even intrusive, Rafe and Robin
bring much needed comic relief to this tragic play. Imitating Doctor Faustus actions unwittingly, this
pair of ostlers illuminates Faustus misuse of power. They also reflect Faustus character by acting
as his parallel self. Behind their clownish antics, Rafe and Robin highlight Faustus downfall and
evil s power through comic relief, parody, and parallel.

In the same scene, Robin confuses the Devil Balioll with Balio and Banio. Since Robin is able to
conjure lewd yet intelligent puns, it is possible that he only pretends to mix up Balioll s name so
that the Devil becomes a silly entity to be laughed at and not to be feared.
Exposing Faustus sins to grotesque exaggeration, Rafe and Robin parody Doctor s magical
tricks. Cole states that the representatives of the forces of evil and destruction are doomed before
they begin; the more confident and boastful they are, the more ludicrous they become; any
suffering they experience is but just and deserved (16). Indeed, as Faustus becomes more boastful
of his mastery over the dark arts, Rafe and Robin s exaggerated imitations demonstrate the
absurdity of his abilities. In sc.iv, immediately after Faustus declares his ambitions to become
emperor of the world by learning from Mephastophilis, the clown Robin decides to become Wagner
s pupil. This is a parody of serious action, and it undercuts the grandeur of Faustus dreams. Faustus
marvels at the words of Valdes and Cornelius and daydreams about learning the dark arts from
them. Rafe s naГЇve reply to his mentor Robin parodies Faustus wide eyed wonder (sc.vi, 37 40): O
brave, Robin! Shall I have Nan Spit, and to mine own use? On that condition I ll feed thy devil

Louisiana CNG was formed on two basic principles; bring affordable CNG conversions to
everyday consumers and provide safe reliable service. Founded near Franklin, Louisiana by Wesley
Verret in the spring of 2015, Louisiana CNG has consistently lived up to its standards; converting
light, medium, and heavy automobiles to operate on compressed natural gas(CNG). Compressed
natural gas, or CNG, is natural gas under pressure, which remains clear, odorless, and non corrosive
(Consumer Energy Center, 2015, p.1). Based on recent calculations concerning transportation fuel
cost regarding gasolineand diesel fuel, Louisiana CNG has brought to the table an alternative,
compressed natural gas (CNG). Starting in 2008, after the nation s worst economic meltdown
since the Great Depression, fuel costs quickly sky rocketed. For the past six years until recently,
price per gallon for diesel or gasoline hovered around the three dollars per gallon mark. Because
of the nations demand for oil, this was the direct correlation in fuel prices. Over the course of
this same time frame a new technology evolved to offset oil prices, hydraulic fracking. While the
benefit has been tremendous not only in driving down oil prices, it also has provided huge troves
of methane or what industry experts call Natural Gas. Natural Gas per BTU is significantly
cheaper than both diesel and gasoline. CNG sales at the station less than two dollars per gallon.
These prices have been consistent over the past six

Speeding is going any faster than the posted speed limit even one mile over. Police have to make
a judgment call as to whether your excessive speed, over the posted speed limit, or your slower

The peer to peer network is a type of network that does not use dedicated network servers for
logging in users or providing secure access to network resources. This type of network lets
clients share resources and have access to whatever they are sharing (i.e. printers). This type of
network would be an excellent choice for small businesses with less than 10 employees because
it enables them to share resources from their computer. These resources can be files, printers,
and Internet connections. This type of network is a cost effective solution due to having less
management or support from outside experts. This type of network setup and usage is simple,
but it is less secure and be vulnerable to security breaches. The second network is the client
server network, which does use a dedicated server. It uses the dedicated server to centralize users
and manage group accounts. In a client server network, the server controls access to the resources
to the other computers on the network and clients do not talk directly to one another (West, Dean,

20. The Relationship Between Grks And Arrestins
2.3.2GRKs and пЃў arrestins
GPCR desensitization is a deactivation of GPCR elicited signaling following prolonged or repeated
agonist exposure. A major mechanism underlying desensitization is agonist stimulated
phosphorylation and endocytosis of the receptor. The second messenger dependent protein kinases
were originally regarded as the principal mediators of GPCR phosphorylation and desensitization.
However, following the discovery of G protein coupled receptor kinases (GRKs, originally called
пЃў adrenoceptor kinases), the GRKs have been shown to play a central role in the agonist induced
desensitization of many GPCRs (Kelly 2008). The GRK family of serine/threonine kinases
comprises seven members. Based on sequence homology, vertebrate ... Show more content on

For example, пЃў arrestins can mediate sustained ERK phosphorylation or protective mGluR
signaling, which are G protein independent processes (Emery 2010, Wang 2016). At the end of
GPCR cycles, a regulator of G protein signaling (RGS) acts as GTPase activating proteins (GAPs),
leading to GTP hydrolysis and reversing the receptor to an initial resting state (Sato 2015).
Different GRK subtypes combined with the action of пЃў arrestins can contribute the endocytosis
of Group I mGluRs in an agonist dependent manner; however, the results are inconsistent
(reviewed in Refs: Iacovelli 2013, Kim 2008). Both GRK2 and GRK4 induce the agonist induced
internalization of mGluR1a, which appears to require GRK2 mediated phosphorylation of the
S869 V893 region of mGluR1a when expressed in HEK cells (Iacovelli 2003, Sallese 2000,
Mundell 2003). These agonist induced internalization processes are пЃў arrestin 1/2 and dynamin

21. Crooks, Curley s Wife, And Lennie
Crooks, Curley s wife, and Lennie in Of Mice and Men can be an irritation to most people at the
ranch. They try their hardest to achieve their goals, but as a result of the direction that they
chose and who they are to other people, it is hard for them. There are too many setbacks and
obstacles during this time that it made it hard for them to live. Crooks, Curley s wife, and Lennie
feel like they are an obstacle for other people and to themselves. These three people get called
names. They are or want to be alone, and they can never follow the dreams that they set for
themselves.
Crooks is called names by reasons of his race. He is treated horrendously by people of the
opposite race. He wants to be alone and does not want to bother anyone on the ranch. He never gets
invited to any activities on the ranch. In this time during the Great Depression, money was hard to
get and work was hard to find. People of the color white ruled out African Americans due to
thinking that they were different. Crooks wants to leave the ranch and live far away like how
George and Lennie want to do. A person that rejects him of his color the most is Curley s wife....

22. The Texas Adoption Study
When examining the human development, considering the input of both environmental influence
and biological inheritance is significant. Empiricists believe that development is influenced by
social factors and environmental experiences. On the other hand nativists view development as
predisposed and defined by the genetic codes of an individual, including those that subsequently
mature with age (Keating, 2011, P1). Genes are a major influence on certain physical aspects,
along with a few illnesses. The positive relationship between genetically related individuals who
acquire similar physical features causes assumptions as to whether behavioural, personality and
psychological attributes could also be inherited (McLeod, 2007). Thus the nature approach, which
is supported by Galton s (1869) and Darwin s (1871)... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

In the story, All Summer in a day, by Ray Bradbury, the setting helps develop the mood of sadness,
and depression. The author does this by making the setting dark and stormy everyday on venus. The
setting makes the story gloomy at first, but when the sun comes out for one hour, it makes the
reader hopeful, but the main character missed the sun. That makes the reader s mood depressed
and sad. The text states, It had been raining for seven years; thousands upon thousands of days
compounded and filled from one end to the other with rain...(92) This explains that it is always
raining on venus, and the kids have yet to see the real sun, except for the main character, Margot.
She has seen the sun when she was little, and then was taken to mars.

25. Galinese Cockfight Analysis
In comparing Zora Neale Hurston s Of Mules and Men and Clifford Geertz s Balinese Cockfight a
direct difference between insider verses outsider is portrayed. Hurston s approach of going back
and immersing herself into the culture she grew up in and Geertz s approach of immersing himself
into a foreign culture results in a clear distinction in their ethnographic approach, focus of
observation and consequently their findings.
The ethnographic approach taken by both Zora Neale Hurston and Clifford Geertz is that of
participant observation. Both Hurston and Geertz immerse themselves in the culture they have
chosen to study. Although this is a clear similarity in the two texts both authors go about it in
different manners. Geertz is also seen ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Geertz recognised that he and his wife were outsiders to the rest of the Balinese people until they

Geertz s research as thereafter he was welcomed by the Balinese people because they saw him
running away as a form of solidarity with the Balinese people. This event formed the beginning of
Geertz s actual participant observation of cockfights and his fascination with the connection
between cockfights and the Balinese village society. Geertz s in depth description of cockfighting
and all that comes with it gives insight into the amount of field research he did. From the gambling
aspect to the structured rules we get a clear idea of extensive research done.
In a broad comparison between Hurston and Geertz s there are distinct differences in their approach

26. Book Thief Author s Craft Quotes
Book Thief Author s Craft Essay by Sydney Paunan
World War II was one of the darkest periods of time in human history. This is a fact widely
known and accepted by most people, and this era of history is studied very often in schools so
the horrors of the past may be taught and not repeated. But how did this two front war affect
young German children? They were growing up in a wildly violent time whilst being told that the
horrible crimes committed by their country were justified, though this view of the war is often
overlooked. Though The Book Thief does not tell a true story, it is very possible that the events in
the story were the reality for many young children growing up in Nazi Germany. The novel follows
an 11 year old girl named Liesel, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With The Book Thief, the mood created is a somber one, to exemplify the seriousness of the war
era. One example of a dark tone being used is when Max first arrives on Himmel Street, in
Molching. The town hall stood like a giant ham fisted youth, too big for his age. The church
disappeared in darkness the farther his eyes traveled upward. It all watched him. He shivered.
He warned himself. Keep your eyes open. (German children were on the lookout for stray coins.
German Jews kept watch for possible capture) (169). Although this quote could also be used as
an example of descriptive language as well, the intensity of the writing makes it more suitable
for author s tone. Markus Zusak s tone creates a nightmarish air to match the horrors that
occurred during the war. Not only is physical darkness exhibited here in Max s surroundings, but
emotional and historical darkness as well. The second and third forms go hand in hand with
each other. Max s tension and wariness is a direct result of all the darkness spawned from the
time period. If the horrible events of the war weren t occurring, Max would have had no reason
to be fearful. He would have been safe. But the harsh reality is that the war wreaked chaos on
many people, a hailstorm of darkness destroying millions of lives across the globe. The author uses
a very appropriate tone

Over the last decade, the way we perceive computer networks in the world has drastically
changed because of things such as remote access, web based applications and wireless devices.
Additionally, businesses networks around the world can be accessible virtually anytime from
anywhere through assets such as Cloud Computing or virtual private networking (VPN). Today s
technology has been the savior to some of the world s biggest problems in education, agriculture,
transportation, Health Care and many more avenues and the main reason is because of the
expansion and diversity of the Wide Area Network (WAN) networks. Wide Area Network (WAN)
technologies has provide many ways to accelerate and optimizing business processes and
procedures through Point to Point topology, Packet Switched, and Circuit Switched WAN
protocols, circuits and types. The assortments of available WAN services and its costs usually
depends on the geographical region and the available provider. A WAN is comprised of several
computer networks linked together usually through or over the Internet and it s used to connect
other types of networks for businesses, campuses or government together such as Local Area

28. The Pros And Cons Of Blue Collar Work
Why is it that blue collar work is looked down on compared to white collar work? There is equal
value in work between the two types of jobs. Blue collar workers are working twice as hard as
white collar workers. They are having to use their hands and their brain to succeed at what they
do. Blue collar workers are not uneducated, they have to be smart to do their job. Also, without
blue collar workers, white collar work would not even exist. A common misconception is that
blue collar workers are not as educated as white collar workers. This is simply untrue, these jobs
require workers to be able to work smart. These workers are not only having to use their hands,
but also their brain. In the article, the author talks about what he has seen at a diner where his
mother worked. He notices how the waitress would watch the room and note who needed a refill,

jobs do require less education, but the workers are still extremely skilled at what they do. These
workers have to be precise and get their jobs done the right way every time. If all blue collar
workers were undereducated, they would not be able to handle this type of work. There is equal

Cuba is a unique nation in which it s culture has been defined as a result of incorporating different

migrants to inhabit the island. Not only did the Spanish bring their customs along with them, but
fifteen years after their arrival they also brought African slaves onto the island. Even through the
hardships of slavery and oppression, the African s maintained practices and preserved aspects of

With the remainder of Indians that were still alive in hiding or under Spanish rule as slaves, the
Spaniards were able to freely impose their culture, eradicating that of the Indians.
After the Indian slave population diminished, the Spanish brought in African slaves to fill the
gaps in the work force. However, like their oppressed predecessors, the slaves eventually rebelled
too. With slavery falling out of fashion across the globe in the late 1800s, Carlos Cespedes, a sugar
planter in Cuba followed suit and freed his slaves in 1868 to help start and fight in a rebellion
against the Spanish crown (Class Notes, 2/21/17). The interesting concept explored in this rebellion
concerns the notion of African slaves and local Cuban s working together. Two parties with
different ethnic backgrounds came together to fight the dictatorial rulers of the country. Through
this union and expression of transculturation as both backgrounds believed in the ideology of equal
rights, the conflict eventually grew in size and became known as the Ten Year s War. Although the
Spanish regained control after the war s end, it signalled a shift in ideology on the island away from
the Spanish crown, and eventually lead to the abolition of slavery and ultimately independence
from Spain. Ethnic Conflict and Tension
The early Christian Church in Spanish controlled Cuba was one of the first groups to call for the
abolition of slavery; however, they approached the concept prior to Cespedes and from a

I learned many things with the vignette we did in class. Active listening is important be cause it
helped Debby see that I was listening and just focusing on her. Also, it gave me the op portunity

Debby and I build a bond. I had the same name as her daughter and that made her feel

For good health and vitality, the human body needs several key nutrients that work together, like
the links of a chain. If one of the links is broken, the chain is ineffective hence the saying: A chain
is as strong as its weakest link. The nutrients that form the chain of life are carbohydrates, protein,
vitamins, enzymes, lipids and sterols and minerals. All the six must be present in adequate

COPPER RICH FOODS
Because the human body cannot synthesize copper, this mineral must be obtained exclusively
from diet in trace amounts. You ll get dietary copper from a wide variety of foods, which include
dark green leafy vegetables such as kale and spinach; seafood such as oysters, squid and lobster;
dried legumes such as kidney beans and soy and nuts such as walnuts, hazelnuts and cashew nuts.
Other food sources of copper include organ meat such as liver, avocado, chocolate, dried peaches,

38. Negative Reinforcement Of Gender Roles In Children
When parents direct children away from toys that are associated with the opposite gender, they
reinforce the skewed perceptions and attitudes of the expected social norm. Children tend to
assimilate parents and caregivers messages concerning gender roles, therefore, by directing
children towards gender specific toys, the parents define the roles of societal genderexpectations,
thus contributing to the negative reinforcement of the ideas of gender identity. In some instances
this could be considered damaging as the social learning theory claims; learning is a cognitive
process that occurs through observation or direct instruction. When desired behavior is rewarded,
the child then learns the relationship between their behavior and the consequence. Although this
reinforces gender roles and conditions gender specific behavior, it also gets in the way of
expression by encouraging change (in behavior) for the sake of others, or in general society.

gave birth to a chicken egg which hatched a chicken. I know that genetic mutation is possible, so
this is how I believe the chicken was born. Over time, due to genetic mutation a chicken was

43. Essay On The Woman Warrior
A typical warrior is a medieval knight in shining armor fighting for his life and homeland. Today,
the definition of what it means to be a warrior has become ambiguous. Often times, we view
those willing to sacrifice their lives for others soldiers, police officers, or firefighters as warriors.
Even expanded in this way, the warrior still has a connotation of physical bravery, masculine
strength, and unhindered confidence. However, the word warrior can have an entirely new
meaning when we use it in a literary context. It can be defined as a person who is simply fighting
for convictions and values that are morally and ethically right. As associated with women, some
real, some legendary, some with evident power, some seeming to be weak.... Show more content on

This story ignited this internal conflict that began within Maxine. She began contemplating this
balance between the strict Chinese tradition, and its relation to her American values. Nonetheless, a
key theme that emerges is acknowledging the power that Maxine s mother held as the storyteller.
Her interpretation of the events characterized Maxine s aunt as a repulsive person. Maxine was
NOT [to] tell anyone because it risked bringing exposure and shame to the family (1). After hearing
the events through her mother s perspective, Maxine understood that her mother controlled the
way events unraveled. This realization showcases how Maxine was able to think outside the
framework her mother was providing for her. Maxine imagined that in order to sustain being in
love, [her aunt] often worked at herself in the mirror (6). Her innocence and ability to recognize
what her mother was trying to invoke fear in her actually directed Maxine to think in a
contradictory way. As a result of this evolved critical thinking, Maxine never once characterized her
dead aunt as a humiliation. From her narrative, Maxine overlooked her actions and commended her
resilience. Although directly not stated within the text, Maxine expanded the definition of what it
meant to be a warrior and gave this insight that her aunt can be characterized

46. Library Security Proposal
Introduction
Libraries are still one of the most widely used facility in America that requires everyone to be in a
safe and secure environment. Statics show that most libraries in the underprivileged areas, the
police had to be called more so than those who visited libraries in the least deprived areas (Wilson,
2017). The most well known security concerns that apply to a library facility security is protecting
the library staff and patrons, historical artifacts, preventing the facility from becoming a dwelling
for the homeless, teenager performing vandalism or fighting and persons with mental
inappropriately exposing themselves or reorganizing books due to obsessive compulsive disorder
(Quora. 2015). So, the purpose of this paper is to design and implement a comprehensive Security
Plan of a local Library facility to examine the problems and issues that might arise. This plan will
outline the security procedures for preventing and handling security issues related demographic
analysis, interior and exterior property, protection against information security and personal

When we hear the word, literature, the first thing that comes to mind is Shakespeare, lectures,
and books as thick as your face. However, why is it that only works labeled as serious or complex
are truly considered as literature? It is safe to say there are other works with just as much
literary value as the pieces regularly flung at us on our ever changing day to day basis. The
literary canon is a reflection of cultural origin, constantly evolving as a result of political and
social changes (Abcarian, Klotz, and Cohen 4). Literature has no concrete format and is the most
dynamic part of society; to try and define literature could be quite vexing. It is difficult, not only

Abcarian, Klotz, and Cohen claim theme to be, an underlying idea, a statement that a work
makes about its subject. (10) There are two central universal concepts the theme centers in on:
the love in a friendship and accepting who you are whilst being proud. In The Velveteen Rabbit,
the rabbit befriends two characters: the Skin Horse and the Boy. The Skin Horse explains to the
rabbit about the concept of becoming real in the nursery. He treats the rabbit with respect and
dignity but not because they were both simple toys; because it is the way you should treat
everyone. As for the boy, he and the rabbit become inseparable. Even as the rabbit begins to look
worn out, the boy never once looked at the superficial. The boy loved the Rabbit; the rabbit s
company to the boy was all that mattered, even when he became ill. Their friendship was so strong
that even after the Rabbit became real, he left the woods and he visited the boy one last time. The
development of friendship in the story promotes the message that you can overcome anything with
the love and support those around you truly give

49. The Effects Of Television On Our Society
Last month Annie, my cousin, told me with anticipation that she will be size zero next week by
eating miracle herbal pill, which she ordered after watching its advert on television. I looked at
her with a contemptuous smile, and said You Wish . She started explaining to me how in the
advert her favorite singer lost 25 lbs. in just two weeks by using this overpriced herbal formula.
After two weeks, I visited her to see the awaited wonder, but I realized that she is one of the
victims of lured advertisements, which are now part of our everyday life. We see
advertisements on the television showing new glamorous lifestyles, hear them on the radio, see
slogans embellished on people s shirts, on the side of the buses, on billboards, in fact
everywhere. Companies spend lot of money researching for their target audiences to make their
product appeal to as many consumers as possible. The wide variety of channels and print media
makes it easy for advertisers to be specific about who sees their product. For instance, children s
channel like Nick Junior is packed with commercials for toys and games, whereas The Cookery
Channel that have an older, mainly female viewership air commercials for perfumes, clothes, and
holidays. The propagandatechniques are essential for the advertisers to create eye catching adverts
because they are in competition with all the other advertisements for the similar product. Examining
advertisements closely reveals that regardless of the similarities and

51. German Schools Vs American Schools
American schools and German schools have many differences.
In the United States, students customize much of their education, especially at higher grade levels.
They must study core curriculum, like math, English, and science, but also can choose what
language they take, whether they take art classes or shop class, and so forth. They make decisions
about what interests they wish to explore, and they can change that decision if they discover they
do not care for it.
German students have a much more prescribed curriculum and are not able to explore as many of
their own interests in the classroom. German students learn many of the same basics as American
students, but their education paths diverge earlier than students in the US. Starting in

light on the darker side of tenant housing and urban dwellers. He goes to several different parts
of the city of New York witnessing first hand the hardships that many immigrants faced when
coming to America. His journalism and photographs of the conditions of the tenant housing
helped led the way of reformation in the slums of New York. His research opened the eyes of

Most contracts never mentioned the safety and comfort of tenants (p. 10). In addition, many of
the tenants were working and needed to be close to where they worked. The costs of living in
these tenement houses were ridiculously high for the condition and size of the rooms. Riis
described how some Italians were given board as long as the Italian made enough ash barrels to
feed him, which unfortunately caused many Italians to get use to free rent and thus many were
driven to another dump. Riis did not care much for the Italians, because of their lack of focus

55. Erich Fromm Escape From Freedom
In his book Escape From Freedom, Erich Fromm asserts that the right to express our own thoughts...
means something only if we are able to have thoughts on our own (240). By this statement, he
means that having the freedom of individual thought is only relevant if individuals can actually
form thoughts on their own (i.e. without outside influence). He supports this by pointing to the
suppression of spontaneous emotions in our culture, our education system s focus on facts rather
than thinking, and an emphasis on truth being relative. Fromm says that the suppression of
spontaneity begins as a child: when children act up and display hostility towards another person
or situation, parents employ many methods to try to get the child to stop. Eventually, the child
starts with giving up the expression of his feeling and eventually gives up the very feeling itself
(242). This means that at first, a child will begin to stop throwing tantrums in public, but will
eventually suppress the idea of even having that reaction. Fromm goes as far as asserting that as
we grow older, we are trained to suppress the awareness of hostility and insincerity in others. Thus,
we are not expressing our own feelings about the situation (which probably involve wanting to retort
with equal disdain or sarcasm), but rather going along with what society has dictated... Show more

This takes away the basic impetuses of thinking, which are people s own thoughts and feelings.
Fromm says that in general, those without power tend to cling on to the objective truth as their only
weapon; however, because the rest of society views truth as subjective, individuals are guided away
from this behavior, as it provides no benefit to them. This continues the cycle of individuals
mindlessly (or perhaps reluctantly) integrating themselves into society s

56. My Fathers Prostitute By Steven Whitacre
Steven Whitacre experienced a very traumatic childhood of abuse from his father which led to a
very difficult adulthood. In his book My Fathers Prostitute , he talks about his life, starting out
when his father first abused him to more recent times in adulthood to where he finally sought
help and started to move on in his life started to live the life he should and deserves. This book
really opened my eyes on what all goes on in this world that I would have never guessed. Every
eight minutes, a child is sexually assaulted in the U.S., and 93% know the perpetrator ( Adult
Survivors of Childhood ). To me this statistic seems insane and I cannot ever imagine being
sexually assaulted by anyone let alone one of my parents that I am supposed to trust and love.
When you really think about it, that how every eight minutes a child is getting sexually assaulted it
is astonishing. It makes me wonder how many people I know that I have been sexually assaulted
but don t tell anyone. I assume there are many different cases of sexual assault and how there are
different levels of how traumatic they are to the individual someone came upon. With some people,
the sexual assault only happened once, and with others like the author of My Fathers Prostitute it
happens during their entire childhood to impact the individual even more. I am not saying that the
individuals who have only been sexually assaulted once came out un hurt or traumatized, but I
would just imagine that it would not leave
