The Prevalence, Etiology, And Treatment Of Eating Disorders
Eating disorders seem to have become more common during the latter half of the 20th century,
during a period of American beauty icons becoming thinner and women s magazines publishing
more articles on methods for weight loss (Garner, Garfinkel, Schwartz, Thompson, 1980).
Dissatisfaction with one s own body a result of the increasingly thin depictions of female body
shapes in the mass media has been mainly attributed to the Caucasian young female population
(Striegel Moore, Silberstein, Rodin, 1986). To date, there has been relatively little empirical
research investigating the prevalence, etiology, and treatment of eating disorders in ethnic
minorities. Additionally, studies investigating the direct link between acculturation of Asian
Americanindividuals in Western societies and eating disorder symptomology have failed to find a
consistent correlation. Intuitively, researchers have suggested a positive relationship between
acculturation, the adoption of characteristics, beliefs, ideals and values of the host culture (Gowen,
Hayward, Killen, Robinson, Taylor, 1999), and disordered eating symptomology in Asian
Americans but the studies have yielded mixed findings. Therefore, there appear to be other factors
influencing the development of eating disorder symptomology in Asian Americans, including self
esteem and the drive for thinness.
The purpose of the current project is two fold. First, I will identify the prevalence of eating disorder
symptomology in Asian American

Designing A New Automated Customer Service System
In the modern business scape, the reality for many companies is to design practices in accordance
with customer expectations, specifically with regards to the ever increasing need for digital
options. This is the case for many industries, with many pondering on how to go about addressing
the issue. Bogers Media is one such company to have taken the liberty of not only addressing but
also designing, with the intent to implement, a new automated customer service systembased on
machine learning.
Of course, this is not the first of its kind but, if used correctly, it may be among the first in Bogers
particular industry. Automated customer servicesystems have been integrated into various
companies strategies yielding optimal results. Starbucks saw a measurable profit increase after
implementing their Mobile Order and Pay program. It goes without saying the essentiality of
observing what others have done in this field, inciting an understanding of the risks and challenges
associated with such an endeavor. For this purpose, let us observe the National Library of Medicine
(NLM) and their virtual representative, Cosmo.
Due to the size of their catalogue, the NLM had integrated Cosmo as an addition to their already
present call centre to streamline the process with those who had simpler and/or fewer questions to
ask. According to representatives of the NLM, the advantages of this system include a simpler
navigation tool, an alternative for people who prefer

The Prague Spring Trio, And Alex
Introduction In establishing an enforceable contract it must first be held that there is an agreement
between the Prague Spring Trio (PST) and Alex. In order for an agreement to be upheld, there are
two elements which must be established. First, it must then be identified that an offer was made by
one party and a second party accepted this offer. Secondly, a contract comes into existence once the
acceptance of an offer has been communicated to the offeror. Therefore, this assignment will discuss
and advise whether Alex made an offer to the PST and whether the band accepted this offer by
communicating it to Alex. Additionally, whether any consideration has been provided, and whether
the circumstances lead to the application of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The advertisement is classified as an invitation to treat. An offer is distinguished from an
invitation to treat as it allows individuals to provide offers or enter into negotiations. Similar to
that of Pharmaceutical Society, the offer is when Alex applied for the saxophonist position,
comparable to when the customer picks the bottle of medicine from the shelves and places it on
the cash register. This does not amount to acceptance, it is merely an offer of which the band
has discretion to negotiate terms or reject the offer. Acceptance Acceptance is assessed on
whether there was a meeting of the minds and that the acceptance corresponds with the offer.
This is taken as an objective approach and can be concluded that acceptance has occurred where
a person conducts themselves in such a way that a reasonable person would believe that they
were assenting to the terms of the contract. PST had sent Alex a telegram informing her that she
was the successful candidate, alongside having correspondence via mobile in which PST
informed Alex to come to the rehearsal, which in accordance with the advertisement ensured Alex
would receive an all expenses paid trip. This suggests that Alex s offer was accepted by the band,
and the band s conduct in telling Alex where rehearsals were being held, along side an additional
promise of $2000 at the rehearsal, would insinuate to a reasonable person that acceptance had
occurred. Under this

Loss Of Life Exposed In Endymion By John Keats
Of all the great poets of the early nineteenth century, John Keats (1795 1821) was the last to be
born and first to die. Born in London, England, on October 31, 1795, to a poor stable keeper,
John Keats devoted his short life to the perfection of poetry marked by intense imagery, great
sensuous appeal and an attempt to express a philosophy through classical legend. Although he was
brought up amid surroundings and influences by no means calculated to awaken poetic genius.
Rendered an orphan at the tender age of eight, his father s death had a deep rooted effect on the
young boy s life. In a more metaphysical sense, it shaped his understanding of the human condition,
both its suffering and its loss. This tragedy and others helped Keats later... Show more content on

the memory in the form of sweet dreams which revive and flash upon our mind in our sleep. These

peace. It provides the beholder with a haven of tranquility and solace. He, furthermore, adds on and

The Impact Of Privacy On The Internet
As technology continues to advance, the world continues to shrink. Information can be easily
obtained with a click of a mouse. Since this information is keystrokes away, how can individuals or
businesses monitor this public information on the Internet? Can this accessible information violate
an individual s privacy? First, the word privacy is defined in numerous ways from an individual or
business perspective. Based on these different views of privacy, this can impact operations or
people s life.
The definition of privacy for a business is to collect information about its customers, but respect
the customer s privacy. Businesses took the concern of individual s privacy a long time ago, and
created a section of the business for privacy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to McCreary, that growth rate reflects more than just a greater appreciation of privacy
protection as a business responsibility (McCreary pg.5, 2008). The rise of these executive positions
and organizations is due to privacy regulations that impact businesses.
With privacy laws, businesses can collect people s personal information, analyze it, but the
business has to be within reason. Before these privacy laws, business were able to collect all the
information that the company can access and use that information to their advantage. If the
information leaked out or was stolen, the business did not have to disclose the issue with the
public or even the company s customers. Now, businesses have to release to the public on any
breaches of security such as their privacy. When California passed legislation in 2003, companies
were obligated to alert them to a breach at the earliest reasonable moment after it was discovered
(McCreary pg.6, 2008). After this regulation was passed, other states began to adopt their own
mandates of security to protect individual s privacy.
Ultimately, this changed how business analyzed their risk equation. Businesses would have to face
the consequences when information is breached, and the reputation from its customers. Enterprises
are trying to be proactive when collecting, storing and protecting an individual s data. A privacy

A New Zealand
Misinterpretation always precedes interpretation by three letters. With Hidden Agendas being
based upon leaked pages of the TPPA, misinterpretation and so called worst case outcomes were
always going to embody the theme of this book. In contrast, I believe that the TPPA is a deal New
Zealand cannot afford to miss out on, however, some current conditions of the agreement will have
to be altered to prevent the potential flaws from overpowering the benefits.
The benefits of the TPPA are immense for New Zealandas it includes 9 countries consisting of
40% of the world economy, benefiting New Zealand by over $300 million per year. The reduction
in minimal tariffs will lead to huge gains in New Zealand primary sectors in both importing and ...

The introduction and signing of the TPPA will introduce the process of litigation to New
Zealand businesses and more worrying, the New Zealand government. Under the terms of the
TPPA American based corporations that conduct business in New Zealand can sue the New
Zealand government for any law that is implemented that may directly or indirectly hinder their
profits. Litigation will take place in an offshore tribunal court, which is usually provided and
ruled by the World Bank s Investment Dispute Centre (ICSID). All FTA s are usually settled by
the WTO in a structured, quasi judicial court, however, the TPPA is assessed as an investment
and the ICSID has a court system that has little case precedent and inconsistent verdicts
generally favoring the investor rather than the nation s government. If the litigation process
favors the investor, the country s taxpayers burdens the litigation costs and extremely large
settlement (largest award in favor of the investor was $1.7 billion, Occidental Petroleum against
Ecuador) (Lopez 1). I know a burden of this magnitude would supersede the New Zealand
taxpayer s benefits of the TPPA; this is a term that needs to be renegotiated. A significant case of
corporation vs. country was the case between El Salvador and Pacific Rim mining company. In
2009 Pacific Rim agreed to terms with El Salvador to mine certain parts of the land in an eco
friendly. In the following years over 90% of El Salvador s water

An Article On Target Going Gender Neutral
The article I chose for this assignment is Target Going Gender Neutral In Some Sections. This
article was written by Cody Derespina and was published by Fox News. The topic of discussion
for this article is the desegregation of shelf space between two genders in certain sections of the
stores. As Cody Derespina (2015) said, Target stores are undergoing a sex change of sorts. Target
announced that they will be removing some of the genderspecific categories and replacing them
with displays and signs that are gender neutral. Along with signs and displays, they will be also
be removing specific colors such as pink, blue, yellow and green that suggest a specific gender.
The reason for this change is due to the various complaints of shoppers that raised important
questions (Derespina, 2015). Target is working to find out which parts of the store can undergo a
change that will lead to an improved balance. So far, Target has decided to make the bedding and
toys sections for kids, rather than for boys or girls. The way that they are shelved will now make
no references to gender. Target has formerly had sections titled building sets and
girls building sets and has received complaints from various customers. Specifically, one customer,
Abi Bechtel, tweeted a photo of the two sections and replied with, Don t do this, @Target. While
some of the customers are eager for a change, there are others who aren t happy with the change.
One of the customers, Franklin Graham, wrote

De-Extinction Essay
Did you know that scientists are trying to bring extinct animals like the Woolly Mammoth back to
life? That would be cool to see, but is it worth it? Scientists should not bring Woolly Mammoths
back to life. It would be a waste of money, it brings less attention to animals about to go extinct, and
it could hurt the ecosystem.
First, bringing back extinct animals would be a waste of money. In the passage De Extinction
Probably Isn t Worth it it says, Five recently extinct species would come at the cost of
conversation efforts for keeping forty two animals (Zielisk, S., 2017). This supports my opinion
because keeping forty two animals alive is a lot of money. Wasting that on only five extinct
animals is insane for me. Also, on Back From the Dead it says, But the clone, born with lung
defects, only lasted seven minutes (n.a., n.d.). This explains my reason because you could be
keeping forty two animals alive, but instead you brought an animal back to life, only to live seven
minutes. Not only would ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On the passage De Extinction Probably Isn t Worth it it says, Even if they re successful, it is
probably a bad idea because it would divert conversation money from still living animals (Zielisk,
S., 2017). This shows my opinion because they spent so much money on trying to de extinct
animals, there would be no more money to take care of all of the still living animals about to go
extinct. According to the passage Back From the Dead it says, Scientists also worry that if
scientists can bring extinct animals back, no one will care about keeping endangered species from
becoming extinct (n.a., n.d.). This supports my opinion because even if they did pull of to have
enough money, no one would care about the endangered species and they would eventually die off.
To me, that is not a good thing. These animals hurting the ecosystem does not sound like a good

A Brief Note On Deaths From Drunk Driving Essay

Deaths From Drunk Driving
When driving down the road two ambulance s fly by with sirens screaming, on down the road
the ambulance s stop along with three fire truck s on the side of the road surrounded by many
police officers, passing by there is a car flipped upside down with another car head on into a tree
and white drapes over top of bodies on the road, through the window there is a man there blowing
into a breathalyzer, the number comes up as .16% this man is drunk and also the the driver of the
car that s flipped. Drunk driving is the cause of this, being under the influence messes up the train
of thought of the brain and messes with eye vision and reaction time. People are going crazy
driving drunk around the world, nobody is good at drinking and driving and never will be.
Drunk Driving is a serious problem in the United States and even all around the world, this needs
to come to a stop because innocent people are losing their lives from idiots driving while under
the influence. Drinking and Driving is when someone decides to get behind the wheel of a car
after drinking too many alcoholic beverages and trying to drive home. This is a serious problem,
drinking causes the brain to lose train of thought and lower reaction time of a human which is well
needed while driving an automobile especially during the night when visibility is low. Each day
people driving drunk almost 300,000 times but fewer than 4,000 are

Saying that, some assumption must be taken. The design is supposed to meet the demand of
whole year with low variation of efficacy. Waste water treatment plants consists on a series of
processes and units to produce a specific effluent of known composition and flow rate. These
treatments are essential to deal with domestic, industrial and agricultural contaminations and
pollutants mainly considering solids of organic nature. The main focus on this design will be
organic compounds in the domestic waste water BOD (Biochemical Oxygen Demand) and TSS
(Total Suspended Solids). Based on the Royal Commission for UK and Ireland the concentrations
of effluents to be disposed on receiving water are 20mg/L for BOD5 and 30mg/L for TSS as
theses parameters apparently would not cause any harm and will not be favourable for other
process such as eutrophication. Considering that Severodvinsk is situated close to the Dvina River
and White Sea these concentrations does not need to be highly restricted once that there is plenty
of water available for further dilutions. Is important to have in mind that low parameters involves
high investments in processes and equipments. Before start designing the processes itself is
essential to understand the flows and concentrations of BOD5 and TSS that are running into the
units. Some

The Suspect Being Arrested For Driving Under The Influence...
INTRODUCTION:
This case involves the suspect being arrested for driving under the influence of alcoholic beverages
in violation of CVC 23152(a) DUI.
LOCATION DESCRIPTION:
This incident occurred in the 700 block of N. Garfield Avenue.
INVESTIGATION:
On 10 28 16 at 1354 hours Officer Harrell #3441 and I were dispatched to the area of Garfield
Avenue and Orange Grove Boulevard regarding a possible DUI driver. Dispatch advised that
Witness Alma Funes described the vehicle as a beige Honda with a license plate of #4HCX801.
Funes told dispatch the driver parked his vehicle in front of 721 N. Garfield Avenue.
Upon our arrival, Officer Harrell and I were traveling southbound in the 700 block of N. Garfield
Avenue approaching Orange Grove Boulevard. I saw a female Hispanic, later identified as
Witness Funes standing near the west sidewalk of Garfield Avenue. She began pointing at a tan
Toyota Camry, California license plate #4HCX801. The vehicle was parked along the west curb
line in front of 729 N. Garfield Avenue.
Officer Harrell and I exited our patrol unit (#15) and approached the vehicle. I contacted a male
Hispanic, later identified as Suspect Otolio Anibal Perez Martin in the driver seat. I looked through
the rear driver side window and saw a bottle of Modelo beer siting on the rear passenger side
floorboard. I saw several closed bottles of Modelo beer bottles in the center console cup holder and

members, they will be able to perform better in human rights and environment issues and win good
reputation for their business and this will bring good economic outcomes in the long term. Also, for
the Local Network, when more businesses do better in undertaking their responsibility in these
issues, the Principles of the Global Compacts will be implemented better. Of course, there will be
some challenges and risks when these recommendations are carried out. The possible challenges
may include the unclear responsibility between different departments in the company. For example,
our HRET should be carried out in the human resource department and departments with
procurement functions. So when put into practice, it did not go smoothly. To solve this problem,
we propose someone be appointed to act as a go between in different departments. Also, it should be
clear in the corporate policy that the cooperation between these departments is needed to address
the human rights and environmental problems.

Comparison Of The Assad And The Syrian Uprising
It is important to note that these two case studies share a number of similarities that are worth
pointing about before emphasizing their distinctiveness. Firstly, both the uprisings in Tunisia as
well as the Syrian conflict both belong to the arena of collective political action, that is rather than
individual acts of political dissent. Secondly, they are employed by organized opposition
movements representing an oppressed minority of the disempowered majority, engaged against the
unjust action of the state and institutionalized violence they exert. Thirdly, each operate outside the
bound of conventional political channels such that they are non institutional. Arguably, the most
important similar factor is that the both belong to the larger... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

This movement can arguably be seen as the largest challenge to the Assad regime in more than 40
years of their rule. During this period , the regime steadily increased their brutality of backfire,
killing more civilians. What began as peaceful protests turned into demonstrations of tens of
thousands of people across the country by the end of July of 2011. Solidarity among different sects
was evident with people from diverse ethnic, social, and religious backgrounds participating. One of
the activists remarked, no one was thinking of religion, ethnicity, or status. It was all about
demanding freedom and supporting each other. The nonviolent protest movement won government
concessions with the dismissal of the governor of Daraa, the release of hundreds of politics
dissidents, the grant of citizenship rights to the Kurds, and the removal of the 48 year old
emergency law. This however, all changed with the advent of the Free Syrian Army and the shift to

The Label Switching And Mpls Is A Technique That Enables...
Multiprotocol label switching or MPLS is a technique that enables the labeling of packets in
such a way that facilitates network traffic and the tracking of that packet across different routers
along a network. As a technique, moreover, it is differentiated from a specific service, so that in
essence MPLS can be utilized in the delivery of different kinds of services, including virtual
private networks on IP, Ethernet, and optics based services. The fundamental idea is that
information about a packet in a network is saved in a kind of tag or label, known as the FEC or
the forwarding equivalence class. This FEC is a sequence of bits that is attached to the packet.
From there, routers within a network access a lookup table whenever it handles a packet, and that
lookup table contains information on how to deal with the packet based on its FEC. This is a boost
for network efficiency because in traditional IP networks, the routerhas to do an analysis of the
packet header, and therefore make decisions on how to deal with the packet after an analysis step.
This is a bottleneck, because the decision on what to do with the packet is done by each and every
router. What happens is that the packet, once within the network, is tagged, and that label
corresponds to an action in the lookup table or index, from which the table then goes on to give the
packet a fresh FEC. The distinction power that this technique provides for different kinds of packets
allows MPLS implementations to then

Character Change In Antigone
Antigone
In the play Antigone, written by Sophocles, writes a story about how one person s action has the
abilities to affect everyone around them. The main character Antigone openly admits that she
dislikes how Thebes is being run. Even though she is alone on her beliefs, she strongly disagrees
with Creon decisions, and wants the world to know her deeds. Antigone s deeds end in her
inevitable death, but in her passing achieves her objectives. The writer uses her to show how much
a single person can affect society, but also shows one must endure the sacrifice to achieve progress.
Throughout the story we find the characters must stand by what they believe in and face the
consequences to ensure change.
Many believe that the divine word holds more power than man, Antigone is one of these people
and hold the divines laws higher than man s laws. On the other hand, Creon believes that
holding power is the way of life and tries to uphold his laws over the deity laws. Creon does this
when the brothers Polyneices and Eteocles kill each other and Polyneices is designated as a
traitor. Creon decides to prohibit the people from burying Polyneices properly and follow the
god s law to prevent more rebellions. Antigone on the other hand believes that a Creon s law holds
no power over her from giving a proper burial. As Antigone is talking to Ismene she states No one
shall say I failed him! I will bury my brother and yours too, if you will not ( Sophocles ). This

industry, one would think cocoa farmers would be benefit fairly. However, when the production
chain is analyzed, one can find large differences between the working conditions of cocoa farmers
and the chocolate factory employees. Still in the 21stcentury there exists a large amount of child
labor in cocoa producing countries. Meanwhile in the chocolate factories (which are mainly located
in developed countries), the transnational corporations boast about their compromise with ethics,
particularly human rightsand environmental protection.
This reality is a reflection of the income distribution inequality in the production and marketing of

However, they continue to benefit from child labor.
Ecuador and other countries have worked towards several bill projects requiring these cocoa
purchasing companies to be certified ensuring their products are free of child labor. However,
transnational corporations have defended their economic interests on this subject by influencing
local politics. They have even created different lobby tools to pressure state governments, as well as
supranational organizations like the United Nations, the World Trade Organization, and the
European Union itself.
In order to tackle all these issues in the cocoa sector, we should establish and run different
codependent strategies simultaneously. I propose that in order to establish a better distribution of
income, the governments of cocoa producing countries should establish a minimum sale price for
cocoa. Additionally, they should establish penalties for corporations who buy cocoa that has been
involved in child labor. To achieve this, it is essential to encourage and reward the formation of
cocoa cooperatives, so farmers can increase their negotiation power as suppliers of raw material.
This will help them sell their product at a better price and keep them from resorting to child labor
in order to produce competitive cocoa. Lastly, an independent monitoring system must be created
and managed by local

Analysis Of Dover Beach By Matthew Arnold
(Not) Alone in the Sea of Faith Published in 1867, Matthew Arnold s Dover Beach is short lyrical
elegy that depicts a couple overlooking the English Channel, questioning the gradual, steady loss
of faith of the time. Set against this backdrop of a society s crisis of faith, Arnold artfully uses a
range of literary techniques to reinforce the central theme of the poem, leading some to argue that
Dover Beach was one of the first free verse poems of the language. Indeed, the structure and content
of the poem goes against all traditional romantic love sonnets of the day with a decidedly more
melancholic and darker tone. Whilst respected critic Stefan Collini explores the notion that Arnold
s poem is too focused on the poet s own melancholic mindset, I will endeavour to provide an
alternative viewpoint which will reason that Arnold successfully delivered a wider commentary
about the crisis of faith that resonated not only with Arnold himself, but with the audience. The
poetic techniques that Arnold employs through shifts in metre, rhythm and form serve to reinforce
the change in human condition that Arnold is depicting in the poem. This is perhaps best
illustrated through examining the meter of Dover Beach, which for all its apparent minimalism
and ease, is subtler than one might think. The poem is comprised of four stanzas, which while
differing in length appear to retain a loose semblance of iambic rhythm. If we examine Hath really

Occupational Therapy Is A Career Which Helps To Assist
Occupational therapy is a career which helps to assist those that are unable to perform the basic
skills required in their specific occupation. It is best known for its unique nature, high demand, and
potential for extreme success and fulfillment. To understand occupational therapy, one must
understand the unique nature of the career. Therapists provide assistance in the areas of self help,
paid and non paid work, and leisure activities. Secondly, personal attributes, rigorous educational
requirements, and flexibility working with a vast age range in a variety of clinical settings

Occupational therapists offer treatment in three different areas. First, they provide assistance with
self care activities such as walking, eating, communicating, personal care, or even shopping for
food. Secondly, they help individuals to be productive in whatever occupation they participate
whether it is paid work or not. Thirdly, they help with leisure activities such as socializing, sports,
and other outdoor activities.
When people are unable to participate in the daily activities of their occupation, Brown and Hollis
(2013) reported that people can experience a brief pause or disruption in their normal activities, a
deprived state of activity that can severely restrict social, cultural, or personal engagements, or
create an imbalance when a person becomes unoccupied, under occupied, or over occupied
(p.1246). Eventually, any of these lapses in functioning can create or intensify other physical or
mental issues. Santrock (2012) expressed that occupational therapists help people regain, develop,
and build skills that are important for independent functioning, health, well being, security, and
happiness (p.45). Perhaps occupational therapy on the whole can be described as utilizing multiple
techniques to help different people with one or several distinct impairments that hinder them at
various times in their life. Kronenberg and Pollard (2006) stated that occupational therapy is said to

A Natural Start Of Life
A natural start to life:
Aristotle, a famous philosopher, believed in the notion of spontaneous generation, the idea that life
could arise from inanimate objects. Louis Pasteur famously dispelled this theory, when he showed
that organisms will only arise if the parental species is initially present in a closed system.
However, this conclusion relates to the generation of new organisms from parental ones, not the
origin of life itself. The first organism had no parental species, therefore the organism had to have
originated from non living matter. Stanley L. Miller kick started the study of the origin of life with
his famous 1953 prebiotic soup experiment in which he took a mixture of reduced gases believed to
represent the atmospheric conditions on primordial Earth and reacted them together in a spark
discharge apparatus. The results were surprising, with a mixture of biochemically relevant organic
molecules spontaneously being formed, including amino acids an essential building block of life.
Miller s results showed that organic molecules could be generated from inorganic ones, a finding
that inspired the modern era of understanding the origin of life and challenged common perceptions.
Now, in the dawn of the 20th century, there are two main theories that dominate the field, the
metabolism first theory and the RNA world theory. The term RNA world was coined by in 1986 by,
Walter Gilbert; however the idea of independent RNA life can be traced to Carl

A Splendid Exchange Essay
Dennis BerkA.P. World
Dr. AndrewsSummer Assignment The accelerating pace of international trade is one of the most
dominating, and important features, of contemporary life. Globalization is creating widespread
changes for societies, economics, and governments. Since the invention of the steam engine,
transportation and communication limits have faded away and, with the development of the
Internet, practically disappeared. A case can be made for the proposition that trade, throughout
history, has been the main engine for the development of the world as we know it today. In his
book, A Splendid Exchange: How Trade Shaped the World, William J. Bernstein makes this case.
The main thesis of A Splendid... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It has shown me how important trade was and how difficult it used to be compared to now.
Today, many people have cell phones and even more people have access to a television, radio, or
the Internet, so, for example, if an event occurs in South Korea in less than an hour news
stations all over the world are reporting about it and have analysts debate about it for hours.
However, back in the 1000 s and 1100 s, if you were living in France, and an event occurs in
China, there is a good chance that the person living in France would never know about it. Also,
in the 1000 s or 1100 s if you were born in a village in England, unless you were a merchant,
chances are that you would not go further than 50 miles in any direction from where you were
born. Transportation in the 1000 s and 1100 s was limited to walking and sea travel. Sea travel
was very dangerous, due to pirates and poorly made ships, so many Europeans didn t risk it.
Today, with the invention of the steam engine, automobile, and airplane to go from New York to
California by plane takes only six hours, although you are traveling around 3000 feet. In today s
world it s no big deal if you travel 3000 feet in one day, but in the 1000 s and 1100 s this was such
a radical thought that no one had ever even wasted their time trying to think about it. William J.
Bernstein asks many questions in his novel. One of them is how goods got from China to Rome.
Bernstein answers this

Opposing Views of Early Americans, Thomas Morton and John...
There may not be two more contrasting characters of early America then Thomas Morton and
John Winthrop. Morton was nicknamed, Leader of Misrule while Winthrop was seen as the
model of [a] perfect earthly ruler (147). These two figures not only help settle a new land, they
also had firsthand knowledge of each other. They are not two people that lived years apart from
each other but rather they lived concurrently. With two such polarizing people living in a small new
land, there was bound to be at least one disagreement. We are fortunate to have writings from each
of these two fascinating men. One can t help but be thoroughly entertained when reading the words
that each man left behind. Morton was the rebellious and raucous and... Show more content on

Bradford noted that, Morton... [had] more craft then honesty. This suspicion was warranted as
Morton waited until the leaders of his new settlement had left and then convinced the servants to
rebel against them. He assumed the role of leader of this motley crew. Bradford described this
group at Merrymount that, ...fell to great licentiousness, and led a dissolute life, pouring out
themselves into all profaneness. And Morton became lord of misrule, and maintained (as it were) a
school of Atheism (127).
Everything that the Puritans stood for, Morton was boldly going against. But the following events
that Morton orchestrated are what really pushed the Puritans over the edge. Firstly, Morton erected
a Maypole for a May Day celebration. This Maypole was in the words of Morton, a lamentable
spectacle to the precise Separatists that lived at New Plymouth. They termed it an idol; yea,
they called it the Calf of Horeb and stood at defiance with the place (141). However, Morton
made no apologies and his group gathered around the pole to drink and sing songs that included
lyrics such as, Drink and be merry, merry, merry boys; /...To cure the heart oppressed with grief,
/ And of good liquors is the chief. /Then drink (141). In Morton s writing it is clear that he just
wanted to have a good time.
While the Maypole incident was offensive to the Puritans, Morton s next offense was outright
condemnable. As Bradford described,

Analysis I plan to complete a randomized survey on the groups that chose to attend my
meetings. The survey will analyze three aspects including when drunk driving is most likely to
occur, what is the leading factor that influences people to get behind the wheel after drinking,
and if the driver notices any difference in his or her driving capability. After completion of the
survey, I will compare the differences and similarities and see if I can come to a conclusion on
how to decrease this from occurring. For example, I will pay attention to which holidays or days
in general that driving while under the influence occurs the most. This will give me an idea as

My Memories
One of my earliest memories, as a young child growing up in the 1960s and 1970s, was the visits
to my Nan s home in south Ealing, west London.
My family had moved from London to live in the seaside town of Weston super Mare in the mid
1960s. We had travelled to Weston by steam train but on returning to London for a visit, by the end
of the 1960s, the coal eating steam trains were out and the odorous smell of diesel trains were in.
The same steam engine carriages were still in use and were made up of individual compartments;
my family of nine took up an entire compartment.
Nan s food larder was always well stocked for our visits; filled with goodies like Spam, corned
beef, Piccalilli etc. At Nan s house, unlike at home, I got the opportunity of sampling such
delicacies like Spamish omelette and Spam fritters. Sounds exotic? Yes, to me they were. I love
Piccalilli; it s the kind of stuff that never entered my home back in the 1960s, too weird, too
foreign. Whenever I see Piccalilli it always reminds me of Nan.
My large family would have been pretty boisterous and quite a handful for a woman, who
normally lived on her own, to put up with; an invasion of bodies filling every room of her
Victorian terraced house.
I loved my Nan s cooking; it was tasty and wholesome, definitely much more delicious than the
offerings at home. Besides the great British favourites, like Spam and corned beef, I think the food
I experienced in London was exotic because it was diverse and

Religion In Mahatma Gandhi
Another trait Gandhi possessed due to his religion was courage. Mahatma Gandhi had no fear.
To Gandhi fearlessness was an imperative part of religion. He even described religion by saying,
Where there is fear there is no religion ( Young India, 2 9 26, 308). Further, Gandhi believed this
courage to follow one s beliefs improved all aspects of life. Gandhi once said, Religionwhich takes
no account of practical affairs and does not help to solve them, is no religion ( Young India, 7 5
25, 164). Religion to Gandhi required an effect on everyday life. Gandhi had no fear and
allowed religion to affect his daily affairs. This was imperative to the many radical movements
and ideas Gandhi proposed. When he founded the Natal Indian Congress at twenty five, he was a
tabula rasa: he tried out ideas which in an established political organization would have been
directly laughed at (Nanda, Shri B. R). However, due to his fearlessness, even when faced with
defeat, Gandhi pushed onwards. He stated, Defeat cannot dishearten me. It can only chasten me.
I know that God will guide me ( Young India, 3 7 24, 218). And by pushing onwards, Gandhi was
able to see change in India and change in the world. Furthermore, because of his faith in God,
Gandhi was not scared of other physical dangers. He stated, God saves me so long as He wants
me in this body. The moment His wants are satisfied, no precautions on my part will save me (

Causes Of The Holocaust
Nobody has the right to criticise or diminish the suffering of others when they have not endured the
same pain themselves. So why is it that there are still people in our world today who are heartless
enough to repudiate the facts from the mass murder and systematic annihilation of the Holocaust;
debatably the most cold blooded crime in human history?
How can anyone be be so ignorant to believe that this event was either exaggerated or simply didn t
happen? How can anyone ignore the mountains of irrefutable evidence; the supported statistics, the
eyewitness testimonies, the books, the films, the photos and the harrowing interviews of survivors?
How can they think that these are embellished, magnified or fiction? This conspiracy theory is
contributing to the unfading problem of prejudice, and those who believe in it are playing a part in
the machinery of Anti Semitism. The cynic s fallacy of history and acceptance of racism, makes
them worthy of comparison to the SS slaughterers themselves.
What I do not understand is how, after the extent of human suffering the Holocaust victims endured,
how anyone could be so heartless as to question their hardships? The Holocaust was the systematic
victimisation and annihilation of an estimated six million Jews by the Nazi collaboration during
World War Two. This included the innocent deaths of 91% of Polish Jews, 110000 Jewish children,
two thirds of the entire Jewish population, 200000 disabled persons. The list goes on. It is arguably

Devices Should Be Taught In Schools Essay
Would the teachers of SJNCS rather have their students learn in a creative and fun way or have
them falling asleep in class? The best way and most effective way is having us the students bring
our own devices to school. We can learn and still have fun using our phones, tablets, laptops, and
even kindles. The students of St. John Neumann Catholic Schoolshould be able to bring their own
devices to school.
First of all, students can read on their devices. Using ebooks we get so much more options to
choose from ranges of academic and popular books. Having so many options we can read for
A.R easily. Every 4 weeks the students have to get 10 or more points, and sometimes it s hard
finding the right book in the school library. Also most times we can t even go to the library
because it s either not open, we have class, or we have too much to do in study to be able to go.
In other words, our devices let us have more varied book options and an easier access to books.
Another way we can use our devices to read is using our devices to read book assignments that the
teachers assign. Recently, we have been given short stories to read in our textbook, but most times
these short stories are actually long. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

What Are The Advantages And Disadvantages Of Political...
Webster s New World Dictionary defines the term political party as, an organization of people
who share the same views about the way power should be used in a country or society. A plain
and simple definition for a very complex part of America s political system. The main goal of a
political party is to get people elected from their particular party. When people who one sees eye
to eye with are in office, there is a greater chance that the policies that one cares about will be
addressed. Each party has a platform , or positions on policies and issues that they find to be
important, and they have functions. Each party works to recruit candidates, organize elections, unite
people, hold conventions to choose the party s presidential and vice presidential nominees, and
much more. However, in recent years America has been suffering from party dealignment with an
increasing number of young independents or people who do not associate with a particular party.

Chemical Reactions That React The Most Efficiently For...
h Chemicals Will React the Most Efficiently for Heat and Eat Packs
Aim:
To identify which reactions will be the most efficient, in order to heat pre cooked meals.
Theory:
It is stated that all chemical reactions involve energy changes. Where a substance is stored with
chemical energy and has the potential to be converted to heat (insert cited thing). Exothermic and
Endothermic reactions are included in the changes in heat of energy. As Exothermic reactions
release heat, and transfer the temperature to its surroundings. This is because the energy absorbed
to split the bonds of the reactants release less heat energy than the product made by the bonds. An
endothermic reaction however absorbs heat from its surrounding as the reactant doesn t supply
enough energy therefore it absorbs energy from its environment. In addition, endothermic reactions
release more heat energy in order to break the bonds made by the products.
The bonds in the exothermic and endothermic occur during the experiment, as the breaking and
making of the chemical bonds are involved. Exothermic is energy that is released when any
chemical bond is formed and Endothermic is energy which must be added when a chemical bond is
broken. It is recognized that with exothermic reactions, the products will contain a lower energy
with the reactants. Endothermic reactions however have products which contain a higher energy
than the reactants. This is because exothermic reactions release heat, and in the progress

to Hume s text, highlighting his main arguments, then elaborating on each of his arguments with a
support from his texts through quotations and external research analysis. By referring to Hume s

But this is not a guaranteed process, because the transition among these relations will may diminish,
so we have no standard by which we can decide any dispute concerning the time when they acquire
or lose a title to the name of identity , (Hume, 171), which means that the notion of identity is
uncertain, but is only a combination of feelings ideas and perceptions. As an empiricist philosopher,
Hume maintains a bundle view of personal identity, arguing that the minddoes not have a cohesive
union, but rather is formed of a combination of perceptions. And so is the self, which is a bundle
of experiences, liked by resemblance and causation. This bundle is just like links in a chain, and if
a person attempts to find a unifying self outside these perceptions, it is like he is trying to find a
chain beyond these links
In conclusion, this paper first gave a general overview of Hume s main claim in his text On
Personal Identity , then proceeded to elaborate on each of the arguments that he raised through his
text, clarifying them through external research, personal analysis and quotations from the text
itself. As a fitting conclusion, one can say that Hume intended for us to think twice before making
conclusions about our one s self based on things like intuition, perception or abstract feelings and
impressions, but rather it should be done through credible empirical evidence, which would dash
the doubts and confirm the

Argumentative Essay On Racial Profiling
Racial Profiling
There are many types of racism in America that cause people to make accusations against law
enforcement for discrimination. One type of racism is racial profiling. It is a strategy that
encourages police officers to stop and question minorities only because of their race. Racial
profiling is a serious issue of social importance in the United States. George Will opens by casting
doubt with his tone on the idea that racial profiling is a serious issue in America. His tone is
sarcastic and critical of how politicians and news people are talking about the issue, and The
focus of the article is to use Heather Mac Donald as the primary evidence for Will s view that
racial profiling is not necessarily bad. I believe there is racism still happening to black people and
Muslim people.I think racial profiling should not be harmful for the innocent people. Racial
profiling is the harmful issue for innocent people. And law enforcement should not use racial
profiling.
Some level of racial profiling has probably always existed in the United States. The article Mac
Donald says that there is something that the vehicles are stopping it belongs to drivers and the
kind of vehicles. and also about the number and type of occupants fit the profile of a drug courier.
But of course they do once the traffics are stopped and they want to research the vehicle. These are
just for race or ethnicity (par.7 8). Found on the Article racial profiling website, speaks to the

Comparing The Book Top Guns By Joe Foss And Matthew Brennan
The novel Top Guns by Joe Foss and Matthew Brennan is a biography about many brave,
extraordinary aces back in World War 1 and 2. One pilot, Arthur Raymond Brooks, was born in
Framingham, Massachusetts in 1895. He graduated as valedictorian from Framingham
Academy and High School in 1917 (Foss, 4). Arthur didn t want to continue school, so he
enlisted in the U.S Army Signal Officer Reserve Corps. Also, he attended the School of Military
Aeronautics, with the Royal Flying Corps in Canada from September to November 1917 (Foss,
3 5). In 1918, Brooks was transferred to France, where he flew the SPAD S. VII. After three
victories he became flight commander of the 22nd Aero Squadron flying the SPAD XIII C.1.
These three victories were not easy, Brooks took on eight German Fokker D. VIII aircraft. He
shot down four Germans with God on his side, as Brooks said, I am alive today because of things
I learned to do in one case and things I knew nothing about in the other special flying techniques
and my guardian angel (Foss, 14). Arthur was followed back by the four other Germans,

The U.S Army, upon review of the actions, awarded him the Distinguished Service Cross. Arthur

Arthur says, I also did it to great advantage on other occasions in America by using an extreme
sideslip over high tension wires to land a Ford Trimotor on Hadley Field near New Brunswick,
New Jersey...I would fishtail the aircraft, kicking the rudder left right, right left, etc., like a fish
swimming through water, to almost kill airspeed and allow me to drop straight down onto that
small field (Foss, 14). He had no communication to any airport or airstrip in the early days,
therefore, Arthur had to make a lot of dangerous landings in modest airplanes, when the airport had

The Great Flood Of 1927 Research Paper
The Great flood of 1927 The Great 1927 Flood of the Mississippi River is still in today s time
one of the worst natural disasters that has occured in the United States of America. It came in
and wrecked the river and the surrounding areas for the months to come. As of today still has not
been beaten by any other flood. The Flood started a long time before it ever became a concern and
stayed a large issue months after it happened. The flood, contrary to many people s belief, started a
very long time before it went and became a concern for the people of the south and the north. The
flood originated from the north due to multiple storms that went and hit in the August of 1926. This
set of brutal storms hammered the northern states. The first of... Show more content on

With winter of 1926 s snow when spring came the snow was melted and it then came down the
rivers. With all of that new water rushing to the Mississippi river the river went and rose to
unprecedented heights (Natural Disasters). The First of the many leeves to go and break due to
this flood occured on April 16. With the remaining leeves to go and burst in the following weeks
to come. This flood came to be known by many different names. The two most common names
are the Great Flood of 1927 and the Mississippi River Flood of 1927. ( Mississippi River flood of
1927) The flood waters that came were at a distance of one mile wide and over one hundred feet
deep. With all of this water coming from the flood the river itself actually became an theeighty
mile wide inland sea. ( Natural Disasters) This flood did not stop there though, it went and
displaced hundred of thousands of people from their homes and went and official killed over
one hundred people. In many of the heavily flooded areas they were submerged in over 30 feet
of water in some of those location. With many of those area s water level not receding until
almost two months later. The african americans in Mississippi at the time of the flood were
forced to work in a form of labor camps to help shore up the leeves . They were left for days
without food or water, and were forced to work or end up getting shot or beaten to death. While
the african americans were given inferior rations compared to a white man in the work camps.
This flood brought in its aftermath, countless social and political changes to America. The flood
even brought in its own folklore and music, but thats in the future. The flood s damages were
worse than expected. ( Mississippi River flood of

Gertrude Stein Tender Buttons Sparknotes
In Tender Buttons, Gertrude Stein uses her method of proetry to paint not only descriptions of
subjects around her in the domestic sphere, but also to illustrate their meaning as well. At first
glance, Stein s sentences and stream of consciousness narrations seem nonsensical and almost
impossible to understand their meaning, and, in some cases, are absolutely frustrating to the reader
who hopes to understand them and see the meaning behind them. However, this work is not
intended to be read by its surface text at face value. The reader must understand how and why Stein
changes and, in a sense, rewrites the English sentencestructure and how the matter of perspective
can illuminate the purposes to her OBJECTS, FOOD, and ROOMS. In the three parts OBJECTS,
FOOD, and ROOM, about every small proem, besides in ROOMS, has a title to accompany it,
usually an item which the proem talks about. When looking at these descriptions, however, one can
t help but notice Stein s wordchoice and sentence structure and how it strays from proper English
syntax. In her proem A PIANO, she writes, If the speed is open, if the color is careless, if the event
is overtaken, if the selection of a strong scent is not awkward...and there is no color, not any
color (Stein 19). We ask, how can a speed be open? How can a color be careless? It shouldn t
grammatically make sense, but we as readers are able recognize these as readable phrases that,
with an analysis of the rest of the section, inevitably do

School Prayer In Schools
School Prayer is a very controversial topic in our country today. Many famous figures in this nation
support the idea, but there is a number of citizens that do not. Wonder what the verdict is
constitutionally? Let s dig in and find out. The conflict of school prayer goes all the way back to
the nineteenth century. There was a lot of immigrants coming to the United States, and the majority
of them were catholic. A big influence on making school prayerin schools were mainly catholic and
other denominational and non denominational groups. In the twentieth century, a number of states
passed laws that it was mandatory for schools to have prayer and bible readings everyday before
class. School Prayer should be permitted in the United States because it is in the constitution,
former presidents have promoted it; and teachers would have freedom of religionin the class.
The Supreme Court made school prayer unconstitutional, but is still debated today. People who
agree with prayer say that if they remove prayer, that it is the public school s mission to provide
children with an education in mores and values, as well as academic preparation. Supporters also
say that when students volunteer to pray, they have the right to the law of separation of church and
state, and other laws between the lines of freedom of religion. In God we Trust mottos and using
the Bible for swearing in public officials and federal holidays that have a religious background on
them. People that are

Family s Roles And Functions, Childcare Practices, And...
Over time, nearly every aspect of American family life has gone through extensive transformations.
Just over the past three centuries there has been overwhelming changes in family s roles and
functions, childcare practices, and emotional dynamics. The definition of what is considered to be
family has changed due to shifts in social values, the economy, and health. Therefore, there isn t a
set definition for the traditional familybecause family life is a social and cultural construct.
Before the industrial era, family life was just a means of production. The family structure before
the 1800 s of white middle class Americans consisted of a male as the head of the family, his wife,
and his children. Fathers were viewed as the owners of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition, children were viewed in economic terms and families reared large numbers of
children for help with labor on the farm. Due to the lack of medicine and clean hygiene, the life
expectancy of people during this time was very low. It was common for families to lose a child
from illness which is why having many children was common. During these centuries children
were regarded as adults at a very young age and were expected to be involved in adult like
behavior. Thus adults were less likely to romanticize their children s childhood experiences.
Additionally, privacy was limited within the family due to the large numbers of members in a
household. A common myth that people today believe about family life from this era is that
people were happier, they had fewer problems, and families were stronger. We often hear the
phrase, the good old days . Many of us cherish romantic notions of what life was like in earlier
times because we know so little about it. Family life in the good old days was filled with many
dangers, deprivation, illness, and disease. Not to mention family life wasn t sentimentalized like it
is today.
During the industrial revolution there increased an ongoing separation of home and work. As
employment moved from inside of the home to outside, a new kind of urban middle class family
began to develop. Farming was soon replaced

Specifically, this article reports on: (a) the use of social media by students and faculty; (b) the
use of social media for academic practice in both traditional and distance learning formats; and
(c) the pros and cons of using social media for academic practice. Previous reviews of the
literature have suggested that access to technology is inequitable (Jackson, Ervin, Gardner,
Schmitt, 2001; Morgan VanLegen, 2005) and that students of color are less likely to use
technology, and therefore, have fewer opportunities to use social media tools than their white
peers (Volman van Eck, 2001). As such, this article reviews recent research on the use of
technology and social media by students of color, and potential inequities in the use of social
media for academic practice. Social Media Use by Students Today s college students (which
consist of Baby Boomers, Generation Xers, and Millennials) are exposed to all types of

The Symbols Of Louis In The Versace Incident
Throughout our movie The Versace Incident, the character Robespierre maintains the same,
pensive and collected attitude that the historical figure was known for. The first scene of the
movie shows Robespierre, along with other members of the Third Estate, working in an office
setting. As Louis comes in and steals food from the workers, and Robespierre tries to tell him that
it is not his to take. This is symbolic of the monarchies increase in the price of bread prior to the
French Revolution, which lead to widespread starvation throughout the peasant class. In the scene
where louis is conversing with Robespierre, Danton, and members of the First and Second
estates, Robespierre is the only one who speaks out for the rights of the workers of the company.
This is similar to how Robespierre openly opposed many of the king s policies prior, and instead
was in favor of more radical social reformations. The ending scene of our movie shows
Robespierre, Louis, and their counterparts, discussing their actions, presumably after they have all
died. When Robespierre tells Louis that his fashion was too 1793, he is alluding to the execution of
King Louis XVI. This shows how Robespierre would have continued to believe that Louis brought
the downfall of the French monarchy upon himself, even after his own death. Robespierre and The
French Revolution
Maximilien Robespierre, a radical Jacobin, during the time of the French Revolution, used his

Pop Music Legends Of The 1960 S
One of the most colorful music legends of the 1960 s was Janis Joplin. Blues legend Janis Lyn
Joplin was born on January 19th 1943 and is the oldest child. Janis was born and raised in the
small Southern petroleum industry town of Port Arthur, Texas. By all accounts, however, Janis
seems to have been a normal and happy child, who fitted society s usual definition of pretty .It
was in Janis adolescence that the hang ups and hassles that were to affect the path of the rest of
her life. In a sense, her rigid upbringing played a large part in making Janis who she was. This
would never have been admitted at the time, but, predictably, the Port Arthur ethic created a fire
inside Janis and kept it burning until her death. Janis troubles began, when she was a teenager
with her good looks gradually began to disintegrate, her soft blonde hair turned into an unruly
brown mane. She also developed severe acne, which would scar her mentally as well as
physically. Hence, Janis became something of a loner, as was named the ugly girl. She soon
began avoiding mirrors, and her anxiety about her looks was made worse by the constant taunts
by peers, who rejected her and often made fun of her. When Janis found that society had rejected
her, she rejected it. Janis grew up on classical music and country music back in Texas, discovered
the blues in Louisiana. Janis was soon inspired to both learn and appreciate music, and its roots

  • 2. The Prevalence, Etiology, And Treatment Of Eating Disorders Eating disorders seem to have become more common during the latter half of the 20th century, during a period of American beauty icons becoming thinner and women s magazines publishing more articles on methods for weight loss (Garner, Garfinkel, Schwartz, Thompson, 1980). Dissatisfaction with one s own body a result of the increasingly thin depictions of female body shapes in the mass media has been mainly attributed to the Caucasian young female population (Striegel Moore, Silberstein, Rodin, 1986). To date, there has been relatively little empirical research investigating the prevalence, etiology, and treatment of eating disorders in ethnic minorities. Additionally, studies investigating the direct link between acculturation of Asian Americanindividuals in Western societies and eating disorder symptomology have failed to find a consistent correlation. Intuitively, researchers have suggested a positive relationship between acculturation, the adoption of characteristics, beliefs, ideals and values of the host culture (Gowen, Hayward, Killen, Robinson, Taylor, 1999), and disordered eating symptomology in Asian Americans but the studies have yielded mixed findings. Therefore, there appear to be other factors influencing the development of eating disorder symptomology in Asian Americans, including self esteem and the drive for thinness. The purpose of the current project is two fold. First, I will identify the prevalence of eating disorder symptomology in Asian American ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Designing A New Automated Customer Service System In the modern business scape, the reality for many companies is to design practices in accordance with customer expectations, specifically with regards to the ever increasing need for digital options. This is the case for many industries, with many pondering on how to go about addressing the issue. Bogers Media is one such company to have taken the liberty of not only addressing but also designing, with the intent to implement, a new automated customer service systembased on machine learning. Of course, this is not the first of its kind but, if used correctly, it may be among the first in Bogers particular industry. Automated customer servicesystems have been integrated into various companies strategies yielding optimal results. Starbucks saw a measurable profit increase after implementing their Mobile Order and Pay program. It goes without saying the essentiality of observing what others have done in this field, inciting an understanding of the risks and challenges associated with such an endeavor. For this purpose, let us observe the National Library of Medicine (NLM) and their virtual representative, Cosmo. Due to the size of their catalogue, the NLM had integrated Cosmo as an addition to their already present call centre to streamline the process with those who had simpler and/or fewer questions to ask. According to representatives of the NLM, the advantages of this system include a simpler navigation tool, an alternative for people who prefer ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Prague Spring Trio, And Alex Introduction In establishing an enforceable contract it must first be held that there is an agreement between the Prague Spring Trio (PST) and Alex. In order for an agreement to be upheld, there are two elements which must be established. First, it must then be identified that an offer was made by one party and a second party accepted this offer. Secondly, a contract comes into existence once the acceptance of an offer has been communicated to the offeror. Therefore, this assignment will discuss and advise whether Alex made an offer to the PST and whether the band accepted this offer by communicating it to Alex. Additionally, whether any consideration has been provided, and whether the circumstances lead to the application of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The advertisement is classified as an invitation to treat. An offer is distinguished from an invitation to treat as it allows individuals to provide offers or enter into negotiations. Similar to that of Pharmaceutical Society, the offer is when Alex applied for the saxophonist position, comparable to when the customer picks the bottle of medicine from the shelves and places it on the cash register. This does not amount to acceptance, it is merely an offer of which the band has discretion to negotiate terms or reject the offer. Acceptance Acceptance is assessed on whether there was a meeting of the minds and that the acceptance corresponds with the offer. This is taken as an objective approach and can be concluded that acceptance has occurred where a person conducts themselves in such a way that a reasonable person would believe that they were assenting to the terms of the contract. PST had sent Alex a telegram informing her that she was the successful candidate, alongside having correspondence via mobile in which PST informed Alex to come to the rehearsal, which in accordance with the advertisement ensured Alex would receive an all expenses paid trip. This suggests that Alex s offer was accepted by the band, and the band s conduct in telling Alex where rehearsals were being held, along side an additional promise of $2000 at the rehearsal, would insinuate to a reasonable person that acceptance had occurred. • 5. Loss Of Life Exposed In Endymion By John Keats Of all the great poets of the early nineteenth century, John Keats (1795 1821) was the last to be born and first to die. Born in London, England, on October 31, 1795, to a poor stable keeper, John Keats devoted his short life to the perfection of poetry marked by intense imagery, great sensuous appeal and an attempt to express a philosophy through classical legend. Although he was brought up amid surroundings and influences by no means calculated to awaken poetic genius. Rendered an orphan at the tender age of eight, his father s death had a deep rooted effect on the young boy s life. In a more metaphysical sense, it shaped his understanding of the human condition, both its suffering and its loss. This tragedy and others helped Keats later... • 7. The Impact Of Privacy On The Internet As technology continues to advance, the world continues to shrink. Information can be easily obtained with a click of a mouse. Since this information is keystrokes away, how can individuals or businesses monitor this public information on the Internet? Can this accessible information violate an individual s privacy? First, the word privacy is defined in numerous ways from an individual or business perspective. Based on these different views of privacy, this can impact operations or people s life. The definition of privacy for a business is to collect information about its customers, but respect the customer s privacy. Businesses took the concern of individual s privacy a long time ago, and created a section of the business for privacy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to McCreary, that growth rate reflects more than just a greater appreciation of privacy protection as a business responsibility (McCreary pg.5, 2008). The rise of these executive positions and organizations is due to privacy regulations that impact businesses. With privacy laws, businesses can collect people s personal information, analyze it, but the business has to be within reason. Before these privacy laws, business were able to collect all the information that the company can access and use that information to their advantage. If the information leaked out or was stolen, the business did not have to disclose the issue with the public or even the company s customers. Now, businesses have to release to the public on any breaches of security such as their privacy. When California passed legislation in 2003, companies were obligated to alert them to a breach at the earliest reasonable moment after it was discovered (McCreary pg.6, 2008). After this regulation was passed, other states began to adopt their own mandates of security to protect individual s privacy. Ultimately, this changed how business analyzed their risk equation. Businesses would have to face the consequences when information is breached, and the reputation from its customers. Enterprises are trying to be proactive when collecting, storing and protecting an individual s data. A privacy checklist for a business ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. A New Zealand Misinterpretation always precedes interpretation by three letters. With Hidden Agendas being based upon leaked pages of the TPPA, misinterpretation and so called worst case outcomes were always going to embody the theme of this book. In contrast, I believe that the TPPA is a deal New Zealand cannot afford to miss out on, however, some current conditions of the agreement will have to be altered to prevent the potential flaws from overpowering the benefits. The benefits of the TPPA are immense for New Zealandas it includes 9 countries consisting of 40% of the world economy, benefiting New Zealand by over $300 million per year. The reduction in minimal tariffs will lead to huge gains in New Zealand primary sectors in both importing and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The introduction and signing of the TPPA will introduce the process of litigation to New Zealand businesses and more worrying, the New Zealand government. Under the terms of the TPPA American based corporations that conduct business in New Zealand can sue the New Zealand government for any law that is implemented that may directly or indirectly hinder their profits. Litigation will take place in an offshore tribunal court, which is usually provided and ruled by the World Bank s Investment Dispute Centre (ICSID). All FTA s are usually settled by the WTO in a structured, quasi judicial court, however, the TPPA is assessed as an investment and the ICSID has a court system that has little case precedent and inconsistent verdicts generally favoring the investor rather than the nation s government. If the litigation process favors the investor, the country s taxpayers burdens the litigation costs and extremely large settlement (largest award in favor of the investor was $1.7 billion, Occidental Petroleum against Ecuador) (Lopez 1). I know a burden of this magnitude would supersede the New Zealand taxpayer s benefits of the TPPA; this is a term that needs to be renegotiated. A significant case of corporation vs. country was the case between El Salvador and Pacific Rim mining company. In 2009 Pacific Rim agreed to terms with El Salvador to mine certain parts of the land in an eco friendly. In the following years over 90% of El Salvador s water ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. An Article On Target Going Gender Neutral The article I chose for this assignment is Target Going Gender Neutral In Some Sections. This article was written by Cody Derespina and was published by Fox News. The topic of discussion for this article is the desegregation of shelf space between two genders in certain sections of the stores. As Cody Derespina (2015) said, Target stores are undergoing a sex change of sorts. Target announced that they will be removing some of the genderspecific categories and replacing them with displays and signs that are gender neutral. Along with signs and displays, they will be also be removing specific colors such as pink, blue, yellow and green that suggest a specific gender. The reason for this change is due to the various complaints of shoppers that raised important questions (Derespina, 2015). Target is working to find out which parts of the store can undergo a change that will lead to an improved balance. So far, Target has decided to make the bedding and toys sections for kids, rather than for boys or girls. The way that they are shelved will now make no references to gender. Target has formerly had sections titled building sets and girls building sets and has received complaints from various customers. Specifically, one customer, Abi Bechtel, tweeted a photo of the two sections and replied with, Don t do this, @Target. While some of the customers are eager for a change, there are others who aren t happy with the change. One of the customers, Franklin Graham, wrote ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. De-Extinction Essay Did you know that scientists are trying to bring extinct animals like the Woolly Mammoth back to life? That would be cool to see, but is it worth it? Scientists should not bring Woolly Mammoths back to life. It would be a waste of money, it brings less attention to animals about to go extinct, and it could hurt the ecosystem. First, bringing back extinct animals would be a waste of money. In the passage De Extinction Probably Isn t Worth it it says, Five recently extinct species would come at the cost of conversation efforts for keeping forty two animals (Zielisk, S., 2017). This supports my opinion because keeping forty two animals alive is a lot of money. Wasting that on only five extinct animals is insane for me. Also, on Back From the Dead it says, But the clone, born with lung defects, only lasted seven minutes (n.a., n.d.). This explains my reason because you could be keeping forty two animals alive, but instead you brought an animal back to life, only to live seven minutes. Not only would ... According to the passage Back From the Dead it says, Scientists also worry that if scientists can bring extinct animals back, no one will care about keeping endangered species from becoming extinct (n.a., n.d.). A Brief Note On Deaths From Drunk Driving Essay Andrew Weaver Mrs. Gallos English 3 1 December 2016 Deaths From Drunk Driving When driving down the road two ambulance s fly by with sirens screaming, on down the road the ambulance s stop along with three fire truck s on the side of the road surrounded by many police officers, passing by there is a car flipped upside down with another car head on into a tree and white drapes over top of bodies on the road, through the window there is a man there blowing into a breathalyzer, the number comes up as .16% this man is drunk and also the the driver of the car that s flipped. Drunk driving is the cause of this, being under the influence messes up the train of thought of the brain and messes with eye vision and reaction time. People are going crazy driving drunk around the world, nobody is good at drinking and driving and never will be. Drunk Driving is a serious problem in the United States and even all around the world, this needs to come to a stop because innocent people are losing their lives from idiots driving while under the influence. Drinking and Driving is when someone decides to get behind the wheel of a car after drinking too many alcoholic beverages and trying to drive home. This is a serious problem, drinking causes the brain to lose train of thought and lower reaction time of a human which is well needed while driving an automobile especially during the night when visibility is low. Waste water treatment plants consists on a series of processes and units to produce a specific effluent of known composition and flow rate. These treatments are essential to deal with domestic, industrial and agricultural contaminations and pollutants mainly considering solids of organic nature. The main focus on this design will be organic compounds in the domestic waste water BOD (Biochemical Oxygen Demand) and TSS (Total Suspended Solids). Based on the Royal Commission for UK and Ireland the concentrations of effluents to be disposed on receiving water are 20mg/L for BOD5 and 30mg/L for TSS as theses parameters apparently would not cause any harm and will not be favourable for other process such as eutrophication. Considering that Severodvinsk is situated close to the Dvina River and White Sea these concentrations does not need to be highly restricted once that there is plenty of water available for further dilutions. Is important to have in mind that low parameters involves high investments in processes and equipments. Before start designing the processes itself is essential to understand the flows and concentrations of BOD5 and TSS that are running into the units. Some ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

INVESTIGATION: On 10 28 16 at 1354 hours Officer Harrell #3441 and I were dispatched to the area of Garfield Avenue and Orange Grove Boulevard regarding a possible DUI driver. Dispatch advised that Witness Alma Funes described the vehicle as a beige Honda with a license plate of #4HCX801. Funes told dispatch the driver parked his vehicle in front of 721 N. Garfield Avenue. Also, for the Local Network, when more businesses do better in undertaking their responsibility in these issues, the Principles of the Global Compacts will be implemented better. • 15. Comparison Of The Assad And The Syrian Uprising It is important to note that these two case studies share a number of similarities that are worth pointing about before emphasizing their distinctiveness. Firstly, both the uprisings in Tunisia as well as the Syrian conflict both belong to the arena of collective political action, that is rather than individual acts of political dissent. Secondly, they are employed by organized opposition movements representing an oppressed minority of the disempowered majority, engaged against the unjust action of the state and institutionalized violence they exert. Thirdly, each operate outside the bound of conventional political channels such that they are non institutional. Arguably, the most important similar factor is that the both belong to the larger... One of the activists remarked, no one was thinking of religion, ethnicity, or status. It was all about demanding freedom and supporting each other. The nonviolent protest movement won government concessions with the dismissal of the governor of Daraa, the release of hundreds of politics dissidents, the grant of citizenship rights to the Kurds, and the removal of the 48 year old emergency law. • 17. The Label Switching And Mpls Is A Technique That Enables... Multiprotocol label switching or MPLS is a technique that enables the labeling of packets in such a way that facilitates network traffic and the tracking of that packet across different routers along a network. As a technique, moreover, it is differentiated from a specific service, so that in essence MPLS can be utilized in the delivery of different kinds of services, including virtual private networks on IP, Ethernet, and optics based services. The fundamental idea is that information about a packet in a network is saved in a kind of tag or label, known as the FEC or the forwarding equivalence class. This FEC is a sequence of bits that is attached to the packet. From there, routers within a network access a lookup table whenever it handles a packet, and that lookup table contains information on how to deal with the packet based on its FEC. This is a boost for network efficiency because in traditional IP networks, the routerhas to do an analysis of the packet header, and therefore make decisions on how to deal with the packet after an analysis step. This is a bottleneck, because the decision on what to do with the packet is done by each and every router. What happens is that the packet, once within the network, is tagged, and that label corresponds to an action in the lookup table or index, from which the table then goes on to give the packet a fresh FEC. The distinction power that this technique provides for different kinds of packets allows MPLS implementations to then ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The main character Antigone openly admits that she dislikes how Thebes is being run. Even though she is alone on her beliefs, she strongly disagrees with Creon decisions, and wants the world to know her deeds. Antigone s deeds end in her inevitable death, but in her passing achieves her objectives. The writer uses her to show how much a single person can affect society, but also shows one must endure the sacrifice to achieve progress. Throughout the story we find the characters must stand by what they believe in and face the consequences to ensure change. Many believe that the divine word holds more power than man, Antigone is one of these people and hold the divines laws higher than man s laws. On the other hand, Creon believes that holding power is the way of life and tries to uphold his laws over the deity laws. Creon does this when the brothers Polyneices and Eteocles kill each other and Polyneices is designated as a traitor. Creon decides to prohibit the people from burying Polyneices properly and follow the god s law to prevent more rebellions. Antigone on the other hand believes that a Creon s law holds no power over her from giving a proper burial. As Antigone is talking to Ismene she states No one shall say I failed him! In order to tackle all these issues in the cocoa sector, we should establish and run different codependent strategies simultaneously. I propose that in order to establish a better distribution of income, the governments of cocoa producing countries should establish a minimum sale price for cocoa. Additionally, they should establish penalties for corporations who buy cocoa that has been involved in child labor. To achieve this, it is essential to encourage and reward the formation of cocoa cooperatives, so farmers can increase their negotiation power as suppliers of raw material. Analysis Of Dover Beach By Matthew Arnold (Not) Alone in the Sea of Faith Published in 1867, Matthew Arnold s Dover Beach is short lyrical elegy that depicts a couple overlooking the English Channel, questioning the gradual, steady loss of faith of the time. Set against this backdrop of a society s crisis of faith, Arnold artfully uses a range of literary techniques to reinforce the central theme of the poem, leading some to argue that Dover Beach was one of the first free verse poems of the language. Indeed, the structure and content of the poem goes against all traditional romantic love sonnets of the day with a decidedly more melancholic and darker tone. Whilst respected critic Stefan Collini explores the notion that Arnold s poem is too focused on the poet s own melancholic mindset, I will endeavour to provide an alternative viewpoint which will reason that Arnold successfully delivered a wider commentary about the crisis of faith that resonated not only with Arnold himself, but with the audience. The poetic techniques that Arnold employs through shifts in metre, rhythm and form serve to reinforce the change in human condition that Arnold is depicting in the poem. This is perhaps best illustrated through examining the meter of Dover Beach, which for all its apparent minimalism and ease, is subtler than one might think. The poem is comprised of four stanzas, which while differing in length appear to retain a loose semblance of iambic rhythm. If we examine Hath really neither joy, nor love, nor light ... • 25. A Natural Start Of Life A natural start to life: Aristotle, a famous philosopher, believed in the notion of spontaneous generation, the idea that life could arise from inanimate objects. Louis Pasteur famously dispelled this theory, when he showed that organisms will only arise if the parental species is initially present in a closed system. However, this conclusion relates to the generation of new organisms from parental ones, not the origin of life itself. The first organism had no parental species, therefore the organism had to have originated from non living matter. Stanley L. Miller kick started the study of the origin of life with his famous 1953 prebiotic soup experiment in which he took a mixture of reduced gases believed to represent the atmospheric conditions on primordial Earth and reacted them together in a spark discharge apparatus. The results were surprising, with a mixture of biochemically relevant organic molecules spontaneously being formed, including amino acids an essential building block of life. Miller s results showed that organic molecules could be generated from inorganic ones, a finding that inspired the modern era of understanding the origin of life and challenged common perceptions. Now, in the dawn of the 20th century, there are two main theories that dominate the field, the metabolism first theory and the RNA world theory. However, back in the 1000 s and 1100 s, if you were living in France, and an event occurs in China, there is a good chance that the person living in France would never know about it. Also, in the 1000 s or 1100 s if you were born in a village in England, unless you were a merchant, chances are that you would not go further than 50 miles in any direction from where you were born. Chemical Reactions That React The Most Efficiently For... h Chemicals Will React the Most Efficiently for Heat and Eat Packs Aim: To identify which reactions will be the most efficient, in order to heat pre cooked meals. Theory: It is stated that all chemical reactions involve energy changes. Where a substance is stored with chemical energy and has the potential to be converted to heat (insert cited thing). Exothermic and Endothermic reactions are included in the changes in heat of energy. As Exothermic reactions release heat, and transfer the temperature to its surroundings. This is because the energy absorbed to split the bonds of the reactants release less heat energy than the product made by the bonds. An endothermic reaction however absorbs heat from its surrounding as the reactant doesn t supply enough energy therefore it absorbs energy from its environment. In addition, endothermic reactions release more heat energy in order to break the bonds made by the products. The bonds in the exothermic and endothermic occur during the experiment, as the breaking and making of the chemical bonds are involved. Exothermic is energy that is released when any chemical bond is formed and Endothermic is energy which must be added when a chemical bond is broken. It is recognized that with exothermic reactions, the products will contain a lower energy with the reactants. Endothermic reactions however have products which contain a higher energy than the reactants. This is because exothermic reactions release heat, and in the progress ... Gertrude Stein Tender Buttons Sparknotes In Tender Buttons, Gertrude Stein uses her method of proetry to paint not only descriptions of subjects around her in the domestic sphere, but also to illustrate their meaning as well. At first glance, Stein s sentences and stream of consciousness narrations seem nonsensical and almost impossible to understand their meaning, and, in some cases, are absolutely frustrating to the reader who hopes to understand them and see the meaning behind them. However, this work is not intended to be read by its surface text at face value. The reader must understand how and why Stein changes and, in a sense, rewrites the English sentencestructure and how the matter of perspective can illuminate the purposes to her OBJECTS, FOOD, and ROOMS. Wonder what the verdict is constitutionally? Let s dig in and find out. The conflict of school prayer goes all the way back to the nineteenth century. There was a lot of immigrants coming to the United States, and the majority of them were catholic. A big influence on making school prayerin schools were mainly catholic and other denominational and non denominational groups. In the twentieth century, a number of states passed laws that it was mandatory for schools to have prayer and bible readings everyday before class. School Prayer should be permitted in the United States because it is in the constitution, former presidents have promoted it; and teachers would have freedom of religionin the class. The Supreme Court made school prayer unconstitutional, but is still debated today. People who agree with prayer say that if they remove prayer, that it is the public school s mission to provide children with an education in mores and values, as well as academic preparation. Supporters also say that when students volunteer to pray, they have the right to the law of separation of church and state, and other laws between the lines of freedom of religion. The first scene of the movie shows Robespierre, along with other members of the Third Estate, working in an office setting. As Louis comes in and steals food from the workers, and Robespierre tries to tell him that it is not his to take.
