Although Flagg s poster shows his intent through the text, Klinger s poster is much less
straightforward and could be hard to understand if the viewer was not from the same country or
culture as Klinger. Unlike Flagg s traditional color scheme in his poster, Klinger uses
complementary colors to enhance the contrast between the red figure eight and the green
snakelike figure in the center of the poster. Klinger s poster also does not rely on its colors to
represent its purpose. Instead of relying on the color scheme, Klinger s poster relies on its figure
such as the snake and the number to be the main focus of his piece. The arrows going through

The propaganda presented by Gilead is used to create a facade of benevolence and in the hope of

Angels in their neat black uniforms (82). Even within the first image it is clear the rebels are to be
thought of as unhygienic whereas the Angels are clean and well put together, representing
someone to be proud of. Gilead choses this juxtaposition for two reasons, the first being for
viewers to associate a sense of disgust with the prisoners and their lifestyle. The second intention is

Was it really the White working class that caused these problems? Or was it the companies that
outsourced their jobs overseas? The white working class are also known as the hillbillies. They
are people who have gone through a lot of suffering but also have made a lot problems on their
own. While I definitely think that it is up to the former White working class to dig themselves out,
I m unsure that they re the ones responsible for this mess. Loosing their jobs to outsourcing and

that can have negative consequences on many stakeholders, including the patient and their support
networks. High cancellation rates can demonstrate ineffective use of healthcare resources, deficient

research on the patients perspective of their surgery cancellation or postponement. Much of the
literature focuses on the incidence and causes of cancellations both in Canada and internationally
(2,3), however the time definition of when the surgery is cancelled varies between studies. Some

In previous literature, patients have demonstrated and expressed feelings of helplessness,
powerlessness and anxiety (6,9). Surgical interventions and procedures invoke strong reactions
around pain, complication risk and death for the patient and their families (5). Additionally, in the
preoperative phase of waiting to be transferred to the operating room, previous studies have shown
that this can be the most frightening time for many patients (5,6,9). When this preoperative waiting
time is compounded with the sudden cancellation or postponement of a patient s surgery, many
patients experience heightened negative effects (5,9). The aim of this study is to first identify
causes and incidence of cancellations or postponements of same day elective surgery at Lions Gate
Hospital. Secondly, the aim is also to gain a deeper perspective and understanding in the qualitative
impact and effect that day of cancellations, or postponements, has on the patient and their support
