The student attended most classes for the CFADW course, missing some due to illness. They enjoyed the course structure without exams and liked having assignments instead that allowed showing learning in a written format. The student submitted some assignments on time but missed others due to illness. They found the assignments generally easy and interesting since they covered relevant everyday topics. The student particularly enjoyed the final assignment and presentations but found one video boring and hard to follow. Overall they felt the course covered useful content and would recommend it.
1. COMMENTS ABOUT THE WINTER 2011 CFADW COURSE (GSCI 1042)
CRN 52348
First Name: Ryan
Last Name: Gregory
Student Number: 100671458
1. How many classes did you fully attend? Comments: I attended 6 or 7 classes this semester2. If you didn’t fully attend all classes, why didn’t you? Comments: Other than the 2 classes that were cancelled I missed 5 classes I believe. The first 3 weeks of the semester I was absent from class with mono. I missed another class due to a family emergency and I had to go to Vancouver the Thursday evening before class.

3. What do you think about not having a textbook, tests, and exams?
Comments: I enjoyed not having a text book because I never learn anything from just reading text and I also liked not having to waste money on a text book. Also it meant that we didn’t have to do a lot of reading to prepare for class which also makes it a little easier on the course load

4. What do you think about only having assignments?
Comments: I think this is useful because tests don’t necessarily show what you have learned as well as an assignment where you can write what you feel like.5. How many of the 4 assignments (not including your presentation and this bonus assignment) did you submit by their deadlines? Comments: I handed in 2 assignments other than my presentations by the deadline. I missed the other 2 due to an illness6. If you didn’t submit all of the 4 assignments (not including your presentation and this bonus assignment) by their deadlines, why didn’t you? Comments: I missed the deadline of the first 2 assignments due to my illness as I stated before. I still completed the email assignment but never received marks for it.7. Of the assignments you submitted by their deadline (not including the presentation and this bonus assignment), which assignments were easy to do and why were they easy? Comments: I believe they were all easy simply because all of the information was about things that are relevant to our everyday lives and we could easily relate to these subjects. The assignments were put together very well I think.8. Of the assignments you submitted by their deadline (not including the presentation and this bonus assignment), which assignments were difficult to do and why were they difficult? Comments: as stated before I believe all the assignments were easy but only because it was things that were relevant to our lives.9. Of the assignments you submitted by their deadline (not including the presentation and this bonus assignment), which assignment was the most interesting and why was it the most interesting? Comments: I liked the final assignment because I learned a lot about 5 different subjects that I had already known about but not in as much detail as the presentations gave me.10. Of the assignments you submitted by their deadline (not including the presentation and this bonus assignment), which assignment was the least interesting and why was it the least interesting? Comments: I think this would have to be the Inventing The Future assignment because the movie that we had to watch for this assignment was very old and boring which made it hard to follow.
11. What do you think about the student presentation assignment you (and your partner did)?Comments: I liked this assignment because I learned a lot about our topic and I like working with a partner because it makes it a little easier to get all of the work done. Although sometimes it does make it tough as it did in my case where I ended up doing more work than the other person in my group.

12. What other or additional assignments would be of interest to you?
Comments: I believe the course could’ve used another assignment about video games maybe because that was one of the areas that was left out and it is an area that a lot of people don’t know a lot about to begin with.

13. What do you think about the use of email to submit assignments, correspond with the professor, and receive your marked assignments?
Comments: I like this feature because it makes it easier to hand something in right after you have finished writing it and you don’t have to worry about a teacher losing your assignments.

14. Which Audio-visual materials were the most interesting and why were they the most interesting?Comments: I didn’t like any to be honest15. Which Audio-visual materials were the least interesting and why were they the least interesting?Comments: I found that the video about inventing the computer was very boring because it was very old and I could never tell what was going on in it.16. Classroom environment.Comments: I think there was a few times where people in the class were getting a little too carried away but it was generally under control.17. CFADW Course website.Comments: i liked this feature because it was much easier than using webct.18. Course content.Comments: I believe the content was very relevant to the course and to our everyday lives19. What you learned.Comments: That Mr. Richmond knows a lot about technology. And that he has also lived a very eventful life which is good because he has a lot of good life stories to teach us little lessons.20. What content was interesting and why.Comments: I liked learning about all the topics that people chose to do for their presentations. I learned a lot of interesting facts from all of these presentations like somebody is creating a virtual reality suit which you can play video games with and makes it much more realistic.
21. What content was not interesting and why.Comments: I didn’t like the content covering the computer because I found it very boring and hard to follow because it uses a lot of technical terms which I am not familiar with22. What Did you learn that is useful and why is it useful .Comments: I learned more about computers and which ones are better to use. This is useful because I have wasted a lot of money of bad computers and now I have a better idea of what systems are better than others.
23. If an online group for the CFADW course existed, how do you think it should be used in the context of the course?Comments: I think if such a thing existed that it could be used for help with computers or any problems with other types of electronic devices so that there would be a place that we know we can get good useful information from for free.
24. What would you add to the course and why.Comments: I think it would’ve been useful to add another assignment simply because it seems a little steep to lose 10% for not setting up an email account quick enough. Maybe if there was another assignment then you could have marks spread out over more things so they don’t all count for so much.25. What would you delete from the course and why.Comments: I wouldn’t take anything out of the course but like I said before I think there are some thing that could be changed in terms of the weight of each assignment in regards the percentage.

26. Would you recommend this course and why/why not.Comments: Yes I would recommend this course because it has a lot of good information on things that we use on an everyday basis and this is useful because every week you learn something new that you can probably use to get better devices or simply upgrade your current device.

27. If a CFADW Part II existed, what would like covered? Keep in mind that General Education courses are not like your Program courses, they are about something, not how to do something.
Comments: I think if such a course existed it should cover not where our everday devices came from but what we have now and then go into the new things that people are coming up with. I guess you could say the up and coming in technology.

28. What do you think of this bonus assignment?Comments: I like this assignment for 2 reasons. The frist being that I agree with you when you said that the teacher evaluations are useless and a waste of money. The second reason is that since I missed 2 assignments and this gives me a chance to make up some marks and do better in this class

29. Anything else you would like to say which is relevant to the course and constructive.Comments: I believe that Mr. Richmond is a very good teacher and that this course suits him well. He is very smart and knows a lot about the topics covered by this course. Also he gave us a lot of good material that we can download and use on our home PC’s.
30.
