Michael Skaff of Lockheed Martin and the Principal Engineer for the F-35’s pilot vehicle interface explains the combat systems and their integration in the F-35. What the exercise showed was that a stealthy 5TH Gen. fighter -- the F-22 -- with its ability to be forward deployed in contested air space
In addition to its precision active and passive sensors were able to ID threats; EW sites, SAMS, AAA radars for entire package much sooner.
The presence of 5th Gen fighters in the force package increases overall forces mission effectiveness by enhancing survivability and lethality for entire package.
It showed as well that 5th Gen fighters enhanced battle-space awareness enhanced overall mission effectiveness of entire mission package
And finally, the exercise showed that 5th Gen fighters with this enhanced SA tend to function as Air Battle manager for entire package.
Even when F-22 was weapon bingo it stayed in fight as battle manager!

The F-35 is designed to work with most legacy weapons.
And the F-35 with the internal fusion engine will allow a whole new approach to the development and use of weapons. Here the focus is upon the legacy weapons.
Legacy 4th generation fighters must load all of their weapons externally which directly impacts aerodynamic performance (agility) and radar cross-section (RCS).
In fact, any strides made to reduce airframe RCS are lost.
5th generation have the option of loading stores internally.
Legacy 4th gen fighters must carry external fuel tanks in order to overcome the drag penalty of the external ordinance.
The F-35 does not need external fuel tanks for two reasons:
1) the airframe was specifically designed to carry significant amounts of internal fuel and,
2) there is no aerodynamic drag from internal ordinance.
A 4th gen fighter is unable to safely penetrate denied airspace. This is airspace for which the threats are able to dominate entirely against the 4th generation.
5th gen fighters are able to penetrate denied airspace.
The internal ordinance of an F-35 is approximately that of an F-16 loaded “wall to wall.”
Because the weapons are internal, the F-35 has a much longer combat range fully loaded or significantly longer loiter time in the area of interest.
In the permissive environment, the F-35 holds another advantage over the F-16: payload.
The F-35 has 11 hard points and can carry about three times the stores load.
External weapons on an F-35 impact aerodynamic performance such that our range is about the same as an F-16.
The picture in slide 4shows an F-35A model with a full compliment of internal stores.
This loadout, which is all internal, is about 5000lbs.
Internal carriage means ZERO impact on radar cross section and ZERO aerodynamic drag.
An F-16, fully loaded, with external stores carries just over 5000lbs and because the load is external the radar cross sections is severely impacted as well as having a significant hit to aerodynamic performance.
The weapons within the blue cone can be carried internally.
The weapons with orange color font will be certified for carry in the SDD phase of the program.
Block 2 weapons carriage and release will be conducted this year.
By the end of block 2, AIM-120 and JDAM will be certified.
On day 1, when stealth is of primary importance, the F-35s will probably be loaded internally.
When stealth is less important, there are 11 hard points on the airplane, which allow about 18,000lbs of ordinance to be carried.

tool in battle especially “high technology wars” if one may
occur in the future where invincibility means invincibility.
Able to strike with impunity, stealth aircraft, missiles and
warships are virtually invisible to most types of military
sensors. The experience gained at the warfront emphasizes the
need to incorporate stealth features at the design stage itself.
The other purpose is to share the recent achievements related to
the advanced composite materials used on various aerostructures
across the globe. Also discussed are the possibilities
of achieving stealth capability on our existing fleet of fighter
and bomber aircrafts of our Indian Armed forces using
composite and smart materials.
Stealth technology also known as LOT (Low Observability
Technology) is a technology which covers a range of
techniques used with aircraft, ships and missiles, in order to
make them less visible (ideally invisible) to radar, infrared and
other detection methods.
Stealth Technology essentially deals with designs and materials
engineered for the military purpose of avoiding detection by
radar or any other electronic system.
Stealth aircraft are aircraft that use stealth technology to make
it harder to be detected by radar and other means than
conventional aircraft by employing a combination of features
to reduce visibility in the visual, audio, infrared and radio
frequency (RF) spectrum. Well known examples include the
United States' F-117 Nighthawk (1980s-2008), the B-2 Spirit
"Stealth Bomber," and the F-22 Raptor.
The ability to conduct long-range strike operations has long provided the United States with a decisive military advantage over its enemies. Today, that advantage is dissipating. Despite the crucial role long-range strike capabilities have played in our nation’s wars over the last seventy years, it is unclear whether the United States will make the investments needed to sustain this advantage in the future.

Italy and the F-35: Secretary Wynne Visits the FACOICSA, LLC
In this brief, the scope and focus of Italian participation in the F-35 program is highlighted. Secretary Wynne recently visited the Final Assembly and Check Out Facility, which has been built at Cameri Air Base near Milan. When he last dealt with the FACO it was the germ of an idea in working through how best to involve Italy in the F-35 project.
Because the F-35 is not built around traditional offsets, given the plane is built differently from legacy aircraft, the question was how best for Italy to participate in the program. In discussions with Italy, the idea emerged that Italy would stand up their own FACO for the assembly of the aircraft, and learn the skill sets which would naturally migrate into being a core maintenance center for future operations of the new aircraft.
With his visit in October 2016, Secretary Wynne was able to see first hand the results of the effort. In a four-year period, the base saw a transformation from a dirt soccer field to one of the three final assembly plants in the world for the F-35, and the first built outside of the United States.
An Update on the F-35 Program: February 2015ICSA, LLC
During a visit to the Final Assembly Line in Fort Worth during February 2015, Steve Over, the head of international business development for the F-35, provided an update on the program. Looking at numbers of aircraft, according to Over: “We’re under firm contract, through LRIP-8 for over 230 airplanes.” The projection is for more than 400 airplanes deployed by 2018. And more than 600 deployed by 2020.

In a May 9, 2024 paper, Juri Opitz from the University of Zurich, along with Shira Wein and Nathan Schneider form Georgetown University, discussed the importance of linguistic expertise in natural language processing (NLP) in an era dominated by large language models (LLMs).
The authors explained that while machine translation (MT) previously relied heavily on linguists, the landscape has shifted. “Linguistics is no longer front and center in the way we build NLP systems,” they said. With the emergence of LLMs, which can generate fluent text without the need for specialized modules to handle grammar or semantic coherence, the need for linguistic expertise in NLP is being questioned.

Yeduguri Sandinti Jagan Mohan Reddy, often referred to as Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, is an Indian politician who currently serves as the Chief Minister of the state of Andhra Pradesh. He was born on December 21, 1972, in Pulivendula, Andhra Pradesh, to Yeduguri Sandinti Rajasekhara Reddy (popularly known as YSR), a former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, and Y.S. Vijayamma.
This graphic depicts the sensor which are installed on every production F-35. This is an important point becauselegacy fighters, typically, only come with a radar. The client must purchase the other sensor and they are usually in the form of an external pod. External pods severely impact radar cross section and aerodynamic performance.Radar - the radar is an Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA). It is arguably the most advanced AESA in production today. The hallmark of an AESA is in its ability to steer beams through space in fractions of a second. From the pilot point of view it appears to be doing multiple functions at once. Some of these functions are air to air search and track, ground moving target indications, sea search, and synthetic aperture radar.EOTS - the Electro-optical Targeting System resides under the chin of the radome. The EOTS is a high magnification midwave infrared (IR) telescope which can point along a line of sight and perform various targeting functions. Some of these functions are point track, area track, laser spot track, and IR search and track.EWS - an Electronic Warfare Suite is built into the aircraft. It performs a number functions which on legacy fighters would have been federated. Among those functions are Radar Warning Receiver (RWR), emitter location, precise direction finding, and Electronic Counter Measures (ECM).DAS - the Distributed Aperture System is a unique sensor not found on legacy fighters. The DAS is comprised of 6 staring focal plane arrays which gather midwave IR photons throughout the entire sphere surrounding the aircraft. The DAS performs these functions: short range IR search and track, missile launch detection, point of origin of missile launch, and navigation imaging. The pilot may use these cameras to “look through” aircraft structure. DAS imagery is displayed both head down on the PCD as well as head up on the HMD.CNI - the Communications Navigation and Identification suite is an advanced Software Defined Radio (SDR) within the aircraft. SDRs instantiate radio waveforms such as TACAN, ILS, voice channels, and datalinks. Because it is an SDR it is software upgradeable. This means as new radios and waveforms are needed/invented software rather than hardware will change.
The fusion engine can automatically task individual sensors to search, detect, track, and identify things in battlespace. The pilot does not have to be involved in this because fusion understands the fields of regard and fields of view of each sensor and will task them accordingly. In addition, fusion may use multiple sensors on one track to get a better kinematic estimate of some particular piece of data.
