The Future Is Flying

The F-35 Lightning II is a 5TH generation fighter, integrating stealth into a supersonic,
highly agile aircraft – and incorporating advanced sensor and net-enabled fusion
capability and dramatically improved sustainability and deployability.
All three variants set new standards in unrefueled range and
power projection. The F-35A conventional takeoff and landing
(CTOL) variant is a multirole, supersonic, stealth fighter that has
extraordinary acceleration and 9-g maneuverability and agility.
The F-35B is the world’s first multirole fighter to offer short
takeoff/vertical landing (STOVL) capability in a supersonic, stealthy aircraft. The F-35C
carrier variant (CV) will make naval aviation history as the first carrier-capable stealth
fighter, bringing unprecedented mission capabilities to the Fleet.

Sustainment
Daily operations and support activities account for two-thirds of a fighter
aircraft’s lifetime costs. To reduce F-35 operations costs throughout its service
life, the team is focused on three broad areas of the aircraft’s sustainment.

• Autonomic Logistics Global Sustainment
The F-35 entered flight testing December 15, 2006.
• Worldwide Partnership of Suppliers

• Performance-Based Logistics
The F-35 Lightning II team has a long-term
commitment for a fighter that will be the
mainstay of fleets around the world far
into the 21st century.
