Who we are
3. Where we are
• We are a Catholic
school situated in
Gorla Minore,
about 30 km north-
west of Milan.
• Northern Italy is a
heavily
industrialised
region, but there
are also green
areas.
• Winters are quite cold and it often snows, while
summers are very hot, with temperatures up to
35°C.

14. With the death of Marquis Giovanni Andrea
Terzaghi in 1599 part of his estate became
property of the religious order of the Oblates. In
his will the nobleman asked the priests to set up
a school for the poor children of the village.
Since then the school has continued to operate
and expand until 1730. When Napoleon came
to Italy in 1810 he ordered that all religious
orders and schools be suppressed and their
properties confiscated.

15. In 1816 the headmaster
Giorgio Rotondi, a priest
belonging to a rich family,
completed the
purchasing of the estate,
started by his
predecessors. In 1839 the
school officially reopened
and remained committed
to educating and
nurturing the minds of its
students (erudire et
edocere).
